[TSHOOT] Maximum WiFi Transmit Power! Good or Bad?

Ғылым және технология

In this video I will try to show how a good network design is necessary to prevent potential #WiFi issues in the future. Some people might think if they use the maximum transmit power they will have the best WiFi range and speed! Is that really true? Watch the video to find out!

    @@Behfor , I reduced my transmit power by 80% via login NetComm NF10WV modem/router settings, however when I checked with android WiFi signal strength apps, it still shows no reduction in WiFi signal strength. Why is that?

    I ran into your video while looking for info on "CE transmit power", for which there is pretty much no info. The reason? TP-Link added this to a mesh system upgrade, and I'm trying to figure out if this is something I should concern myself with. I'm trying to decide between the older Deco M4 or the newer (costlier) S4, whose only difference is the addition of this mysterious CE transmit power. Any idea about it?

    I hope people wont replace their antennas with something like 8 or 10dbi antenna, changing antennas may improve your coverage but only in 1 direction, a 2-3dbi antenna is considered a bidirectional antenna and has a something like coverage of in spherical, if you use 5-10dbi, the coverage will start go oblong. so what will happen if you change your antenna with high gain? at first you will see improvements on signal, but if your house have a 2nd floor, any device up there will have problems communicating to your router with high gain antenna. I can only see this high gain antenna usable if you have a AP that is mounted on ceiling, just like what most AP that Ubiquity offers that have 6-10dbi antenna internal and because of how it was installed in the first place either in wall or ceiling, either it will improve your wifi signal vertically or horizontally.

    Do you recommend two different SSIDs when theres another AP? I know there’s a lot of in between details before recommending someone that option. My question is for a 2nd floor AP.

  • @Behfor

    You can, if that's what you need do in your network (and obviously if your wireless router or access point has the option)! Too much power is not the right solution to extend the range, that's why with normal wireless routers you usually cannot go beyond certain limits unless you install a third party firmware, which as mentioned in the video is not recommended and might even be illegal!

    so the reason you got poor signal/connection in your backyard really was because you didn't turn on your access point? i.e. nothing to do with the transmit power?

  • @Behfor

    @Behfor

    5 жыл бұрын

    As I said in the video the signal was rather strong in the backyard but I just was not able to connect! The reason for that was because there was only one way connection due to using too much transmit power! Possible solutions for me would be to 1-Relocate the main wireless router. 2- Use high gain antennas. 3- Use a secondary router/AP. I chose #3 because I already had a secondary Router/AP which I had forgotten to turn back on. Basically if I hadn't used too much power I probably wouldn't have receive any signal in the backyard, but the solution definitely was not to increase the transmit power! I hope that makes sense! Thanks!

    a high gain antenna on the router will not affect how well the phone can reach the antenna of the router. a high gain antenna on the router will only squish the radiated pattern down flatter horizontally, but the phone's radiation pattern still needs to make contact with the antenna, not the radiated propagation coming from the router. not to say a high gain antenna couldn't help, but just not for the reasons you state

    Here is a quote from the CWNA study guide (6th edition) Chapter 15: "Many people do not understand the simple concept of antenna reciprocity, which means that antennas amplify received signals just as they amplify transmitted signals. A high-gain antenna on an access point will amplify the AP's transmitted signal and extend the range at which the client is capable of hearing the signal. The AP's high-gain antenna will also amplify the received signal from a distant client station." Feel free to read the whole chapter, for more details. Thanks.
