Trying To Eat The World's Spiciest Pepper🇮🇳

I had a very nice (and from what I understand quite authentic) Assamese thali in Guwahati that included no small amount of bhut jolokia (Indian ghost pepper) chutney. However, it was spicy but not unbearably so. As such, I thought it might be interesting to eat one actual bhut jolokia pepper straight. Well, mission accomplished: eating the bhut jolokia straight is indeed unbearably spicy.

The king chillies which we get in these markets are not very spicy. Many vendors bring them from the state of Assam where it is commercially grown. The Naga king chillies which are grown in the paddy fields ( in the wild) are extremely spicy. And it is not easy to find them in the market as their produce is limited.

When you use too much fertilizer in chillis then they grow in numbers but minus the heat. It's not about state. Even in Assam where you can find homegrown ghost chillies that can have very much more heat than those you can find in the markets for obvious reasons.

Big big ups to you for showing the North Eastern region of India to the entire world. I'm from Dibrugarh, Assam. Most mainland Indians don't even know about our part of the country. Since you're in the NE, I suggest you visit Kohima in Nagaland, Upper Assam if you're interested in a more authentic Assamese culture, Shillong and Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya, Aizawl in Mizoram, Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. Although it can be dangerous for you to travel in remote areas in the rainy season due to landslides. We NorthEast Indians are a humble bunch, we love to show our culture to anyone who shows interest in visiting our part of the world. We look, eat and have vastly different cultures compared to the mainland. Have a good trip brother!
