Trying To Beat Porsche's Spa Record In Their 919 Evo

Ойындар

Since we never got to see the 919 EVO mod in action at Spa, I figured it would be nice to take to the track and try and beat the 1:41:770 set by Neel Jani

    I'm seeing comments here about the DRS, and track conditions, and the ability to change the setups Jimmy has as compared to the real life counterpart, but let's be real folks. Professional drivers have the benefit of, literally, an entire team of expert engineers and analysts to set up a car. They don't NEED to do many setup changes, the car is pretty much where it needs to be when it hits the track. Jimmy has a computer and some driving/tuning know how. Advantage: Real life. This race car has a DRS system which gives it a further advantage in a straight. The virtual version of this car doesn't. Advantage: Real life. In most sims you can recreate track and ambient conditions, but that's not really necessary in a sim race, especially for a hot lap challenge. Let's say the conditions are a little better for Jimmer here. Advantage: Broadbent. Also... this is virtual, so as well as the track and car are recreated, the speed around a circuit depends on the physics and tire models. As close to real as it might be, it's not real, and that's advantage: Broadbent. There is also one bit of information that a sim racer doesn't have: Seat-of-the-pants feel, or G-Force. This makes it tougher for real world drivers to handle corners due to the gravitational forces on the body, but also gives them a better feel for acceleration and cornering. Advantage: Evens out. All of these things considered... Jimmy Broadbent, in a virtual Porsche 919 Evo, just set a faster lap time around Spa than a professional driver in the real-life counterpart. No matter what, it is HARD to beat a professional driver. Don't take anything away from this incredible performance. GG, Jimmy. GG.

  • @emilebrown2964

    Ronald Wright Jr. Not really Jimmy could've pushed as hard as he wanted without facing any consequences while the real life driver probably dosent know the limits of the car and is risking his life if he pushes over the edge to be honest I don't understand how you can compare a lap in a game to real life.

  • @JReaLBiz86

    @JReaLBiz86

    6 жыл бұрын

    Emile Brown Jimmy COULD push as hard as he wanted with no consequences. However, a sign of a proper sim racer is that he'll treat the "game" as though it's real life. This is obviously Jimmy's approach here. Don't forget that professional drivers use sims to get accustomed to race tracks or find nuances to improve lap times, because these cars and tracks are all laser scanned and accurate to the mm. There's plenty that translates from one of these sims to real life. Also, give a professional race driver his due credit... They push their equipment to the limit, same as anyone on one of these sims. They simply approach it differently, in that they have to warm up to it, while a sim racer has the ability to go over the limit with no consequences. I've seen professional racers go over that edge, and it ain't pretty... But it's what they live for; finding out where that limit is. You should try one of these sims some day to understand the difficulty that goes into running a fast lap. It's not Need for Speed lol

  • @acat6821

    Ronald Wright Jr. if you put him in the real car on the real track, he would probably struggle to get around in 2:30 let alone come close to the time he set on the game. Driving in real life is a different beast.

  • @JReaLBiz86

    @JReaLBiz86

    5 жыл бұрын

    A Cat this is true. But if you think about it, even when moving one driver of one type of car to another type of car, it will take hours of seat time to be competitive with a hot lap. All the same, if a professional driver just jumped onto a sim, he wouldn't come close to setting the time Jimmy does on the sim. Hell, if another sim racer jumped right on Jimmy's setup, he probably couldn't run a similar time. It's all in knowing your platform. What's insane to me is that people are trying to take something away from Jimmy because he's on a sim, comparing his time to real life. I mean, for God's sake, you've never done something similar on a racing game? I know I have, and the closest I've ever come to MATCHING a top pro lap is coming within .2 of a second. We (As a whole when it comes to these commenters) are critiquing this way too hard, man. WAY too hard. Do a check list: Do you love racing? Check. Do you want to see someone go fast? Check. Wouldn't it be cool if he could go as fast as the real thing? Check. Jimmy just did. Wow! I sim race, and I couldn't run the lap Jimmy did in the sim. I'd probably be more than a half second off. Just appreciate what this dude accomplished is all I'm saying.
