Trying the LOWEST RATED Rhythm Games on Steam

Ойындар

So I tried playing the lowest user rated games on steam that were tagged 'rhythm'. It was an experience. At worst they're extremely boring, at best they're extremely entertaining to talk about.

There is a better game with the same concept called Soundfall on Steam. When I saw Project Pulse I thought it might be a rip off but it released a few months before Soundfall (according to Steam release dates). Still, Soundfall has development blogs prior to the launch of Project Pulse, so they might have ripped off the idea.

Man, it's been a minute since I heard of Rhythm Knights, I'm the victory screen artist and two of my sketches appeared in the ending cutscene (6:00), they were commissions for the game specifically, and I made those sketches like two years ago now??? Idk, but hey, even though RK came out like the way it is today, I had so much fun drawing the sketches, and the creator was great to work with. And If I haven't done those commissions years ago, I wouldn't do some greater projects today, so that's something good that came out of RK at least for me.

Fun Fact: the Rhythm Knights devs are (were?) supposedly making an indie Smash clo- I mean platform fighter. You'll never guess which game that wouldn't even qualify as a D-lister is featured as part of the roster amongst a dozen B and C-list indie games. Note: They took down the Steam page since the last time I saw it so who knows if they're still actually going to make it.

I specifically remember my older sister being all over the game on the 3ds and watched her play that exact level the theme was from. She asked me to play one level for her because she couldn't do it LOL it was that one where the main character had to jump from the top of the ceiling between obstacles and stuff?

So as the one person on the planet that LIKES Dance Magic, I do wanna rush to that game's defense just a smidge. Though admittedly this is because I suffer from Bust A Groove Withdrawl and while Dance Magic is FAR from that game, it was at least an ATTEMPT to make a game like that. The battle mode, I felt, was more like a rythmic Pokemon battle than a fighting game as it focuses on building up power and inflicting status effects so you ARE trying to strategize while hitting keys to the beat. But I also admit the combat is mostly about being sure to keep your shields up while breaking down your opponent's shields and building a combo so you can smack them with a really strong attack. The game also has a standard DDR style mode as well as crappy Move support on PS3. The BEST part though is that you can import your own music...AND use it in online multiplayer even on PS3! So my favorite moment was going online on PS3 and playing Kitty-N's theme at my opponent...and immediately getting a message after the match asking "Yo! Do you have Strike's Theme?". So yes, Dance Magic is only played by deeply desperate Bust A Groove fans. Still, that's a thing that could have been abused SUPER hard if the game ever got popular and I'm sure has some legal hiccups to it as well. That said you have to manually do the BPM by tapping a button to the music and unfortunately that means user imported songs usually fall out of sync really badly. Interestingly, Dance Magic was going to be a full boxed release with a Kinect supported 360 version but SOMETHING happened to it. I remember its big selling point was "Featuring Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO!" which is why like 3 of the characters can shuffle. But as you can see the final game does not have this. In fact, the entire soundtrack of the final game came from some kind of free music site. Interestingly I remember hearing a non-vocal version of one of the game's songs while I was working at Walgreens.

yep I don't think dance magic is a bad game. I could tell it had potential but something was off (though from my usual rhythm gamer standpoint I don't like it) but at the same time I looked over the other ports and could tell the reason why the PC port was getting negative reviews was because it didn't hold up to the other console versions

I deep dive Steam sometimes to find obscure rhythm games. It can be quite entertaining. But while I find the abysmal ones funny, a lot of games indeed have the rhythm tag without even remotely being a rhythm game. I always report those tags. If any of you guys see one such game and feel like doing the same, that'd be much appreciated. If it gets reported enough the tag will be removed.

~5:35 - I... I breathed wrong. I breathed wrong... while eating fire noodles... Ow. Ow, but also worth. ... Tangentially, did they just try and steal the entire aesthetic of Castle Crashers and fail? Hard? XD To actually add to the convo, price means so much. Especially when it comes to a video game. Price means SO FRICKING MUCH. You have to think: If this game is crap, all I should really have to pay is time. If I have paid maybe a buck, it should at least be functional. If I've paid five bucks, I should at least get an hour or two of (MOSTLY) glitch-free play. Ten or higher, I'd be asking for a fully-functional game and mebbe some frills and updates, no game-breaking glitches, plus, in this case, working options and fully adjustable offsets. This is 2022; we know so much about so much. How is a FREE rhythm game better than a similar paid experience? We can do better... I'd say "stop throwing your money at things if you can't tell if it works or not", but then we wouldn't get funny a$s videos like this, so, uh... carry on. :V

i swear to god rhythm knights just ripped of castle crashers and their art style and made it a rhythm game. The knights are literally the default castle crashers knights. And at least one of the backgrounds is a rip off straight from castle crashers.

first time here got a few questions -how is a game a metronome simulator and not just a metronome? -why a game not having songs from 2019 is automatically a negative point? the point of these games is having the most up to date songs? i have some other questions but i'm really tired i'll leave it to the next one

metronome simulator as in uhm... the player pretending that they're a metronome? kinda thing... I guess? that's what I thought when I said it and as for let's sing 2019 not having songs from 2019 being a negative point... it's a lot like how some videos on youtube change their titles to reflect the current year even though they released their video before that. For example, if I were to make a video about osu lazer 2021, but changed the title to reflect 2022. It's not accurate and it is misleading, since osu lazer has definitely updated and added more features since 2021. This is the same case with songs. If it says 2019, you would expect something from 2019 in it. There is the counter argument that subscription based programs and services such as adobe programs (they start updating with 2023 in their name in 2022's november/december) do that, but it is really not the same with something that relies on things outside of their own production. In other words, songs by other artists that would only exist in the future.
