Trying RUTT'S HUT "America's Best Hot Dog!" Worth The Hype?

Every list that ranks the best hot dogs in America will include Rutt's Hut on it. The iconic New Jersey restaurant has been serving rippers for several decades, called rippers because their hot dogs are deep fried in oil until they "rip" or burst open. America is already the hot dog capital of the world, and the Chicago style hot dog alone is a great achievement, so Chicago alone likely has many of the best hot dogs in the USA. But out of all the hot dogs in New York and Chicago, Rutt's Hut in Clifton, New Jersey consistently ranks as among the best hot dog stands in America and one of the best hot dog stands in the world. Is it truly that great?
We set out today to see if Rutt's Hut truly is all it's cracked up to be and one of the best restaurants in New Jersey. We try the famous Rutt's Hut relish and the Rutt's Hut cheese sauce to go along with the deep fried dogs. We have had many great hot dogs on this channel, such as Boulevard Drinks in Jersey City and Walter's Hot Dog Stand in Westchester, NY. Will Rutt's Hut live up to its name as the GOAT hot dog?

My mother graduated Clifton high school in 1946 and was married to my father in 1948 and the first place they had their date was Rutts Hut… Me personally my favorite hotdog is Hank franks on Route 46 E. I used to work at HONEYWELL and Teterboro for many years and I would stop there a couple of times a week before I went to work or after I was leaving work… I also met Jason Biggs there the star of all the American pie movies at Hanks Frank’s❤

I grew up all over being a Military brat , born in the Midwest . We always put beans in the chili , I think originally it started as a filler to make the chili go farther when you had less meat or a lesser quality meat . I did live in Texas a couple years and enjoy the red chili as well , but there the beef is more abundant and a bit less expensive . I like a good slaw dog and chili dog . Never been a fan of vinegar or anything pickled so I never use or eat relish , just a personal preference . Enjoy the channel since I came across it a few weeks ago

Rutts hut hot dogs are legendary. I haven't had every hot dog in the country so I cant call them the best. But since I ate my first one 58 yrs ago, I never felt the need to try and top them. In fact, the best texas weiner was right across the street at Bertlins. They closed maybe 50 yrs ago. I now live 3 hrs away at the shore, but I still make that relish at home. It used to be better, in fact. But it is still amazing. It was once called German Cabbage relish. Its mostly cabbage. And the secret ingredient is Turmeric. Mustard seed too. Keep the reviews coming. Its nice to see you review places I've been too. I especially liked the Borgata Buffet review! And thanks for not wearing an Eagles hat during this review! Joe D

For a rivaling hot dog, I highly recommend trying Texas Weiner 1 in Plainfield NJ that's been in business since 1924 or J & G Texas Weiners in Dunellen NJ since 1977. Their hotdogs don't have the ripper effect, but they are griddled to perfection that results in a wicked snap crunch on every bite. Ask for the Texas Weiner hotdog traditional and careful not to try other Hotdog places called Texas Weiners. These two locations keep the Texas Weiner style traditional and authentic: the hot dog is foot long, chili is unbelievably good, and hot dog is griddled for hours NEVER FRIED!!! Awesome vlog channel, Dude!

I think I’ve commented before, but you’ve gotta try the hot dogs in upstate New York. They make local brands of dogs Hoffman’s (Syracuse), Sahlen’s (Buffalo) and my favorite Zweigel’s (Rochester). Even niche sausage suppliers like Liehs & Steigerwald. And of course Gianelli Italian sausages. You can find these brands served at local diners like Ted’s or Louie’s in Buffalo, Don’s Original, Bill Gray’s or Schaller’s (among others) in Roch and Heid’s near Syracuse. You have to take a food tour to try a garbage plate in Roch, wings and beef on weck in Buffalo. Trust me👍

First stop on the Anthony Bourdain food trail. You’ll love it UA, also get their amazing burger sliders too. Also, both Rutt’s and Hiram’s use Thumanns as their hotdog supplier, the best hot dog for deep frying money can buy.

That relish looks distinctly like Piccadilly which is a traditional English mustard pickle with assorted vegetables in.

I’m usually a strong defender of my state’s cuisine, but my first Rutt’s Hut experience wasn’t a pleasant one. Got attitude for asking if I could get a chili dog, since they offer both dogs and chili on the menu🤷🏻‍♂️ I do remember their relish being a highlight. Guess I have to give it another try! Side note- your recommendation of the Patty Melt at Whataburger was spot-on👌

It’s over 60 years old and has amazing natural casing hotdogs, burgers, chili, pork roll etc. Don’t confuse this with Jimmy John’s sandwiches chain.
