I was just thinking about how basic (and poorly built) shot timers are for the price. My Pocket Pro II gets the job done but it's clunky, huge, poorly built, and expensive. Glad to see someone trying to improve on something that's had very little innovations in a long time.

I did some research in an attempt to purchase this shot timer and got cold feet. The app is very poorly rated with many reviews in the Google Play Store and poorly reviewed with fewer reviews in the Apple App Store. More concerning, a few of the reviews mention they attempted to work through their problems with customer service but it was non-existent. This is a super good concept and I hope they get the early issues worked out before online negative feedback gets them. For now, I'm going with a CE Pocket Pro II and will continue to watch the RangeTech develop and, hopefully, its reviews increase in number and higher feedback! Thanks for reviewing this, John.

@JoeDeSimone there's quite a bit of history with the app and product that I'd like to think is behind us now. In fact, we acquired the product from another company, and we are now in our official product launch this week. There have been a number of improvements made, app updates, and our customer service is top-notch and super responsive. We have a FB users group that is super helpful to check out as well. A lot of the old reviews had to do with the very first version of the shot timer hardware, which was a dongle that plugged into the headphone jack on a mobile device. While the hardware itself was solid, the problem was constantly changing firmware from all of the various phone manufacturers (Samsung being one of the most troublesome). The original dongle product was not compatible with iPhone either. That's why the new bluetooth version was designed and engineered. It works with any mobile device via the free app. I hope you might be willing to give it a try!

It's a nice timer, and well-priced. I've already got mine and I'm loving it so far! It's a just as hard to use on a crowded range as any other, but that's inherent to any sound-based timer. What kind of attachment are you using on that tripod for your phone? I need something like that so I'm not having to look down at the bench and also for filming videos on my phone when I want to avoid the fish-eye of the GoPro.

The sensitivity adjustment should allow you to set it to only pick up your shots when you want, even on an indoor shooting range.

Looks good. Only thing I am bummed about is you couldn't run it with a MantisX. I don't think the apps will run in the background so you would need to use one or the other. The data would be nice from Mantis because you could see where you went wrong on the shot string and improve your times. Could always use an old phone if you have one to run the mantis/shot timer app.

I like the Bluetooth feature definitely nice to be able to keep the timer on your belt. There website doesn’t really go into much specs though. If it doesn’t have echo cancellation it will be useless at indoor ranges unless the place is empty. I use a Pocket Pro 2, I like it because the echo control makes it easier to use at indoor ranges but even so if it’s too crowded I don’t even bother. Mine has sensitivity controls as well and it will pick up dry firing when I practicing at home which is nice. Their website doesn’t go into much features otherwise I might consider trying it out.

  • @RileyBowman

We're still working on getting the website fleshed out with all the data and specs. But it absolutely has echo cancellation. Works great, too. And the sensitivity adjustment is good enough that I can use it on an indoor range with a bunch of shooters in the other nearby shooting lanes without picking up their shots!

  • @RileyBowman

Tony Liang the default sensitivity setting is 400, and I typically find around 600-750 adequate for indoor range use. I almost never have to adjust the echo cancellation.

Not sure either. What I do know is that this shot timer had been sold on amazon before it run out of stock and there is some possibility that they'd ship to Europe. Probably need to reach out to Range Tech to ask when are they going to re-stock their amazon shop so hopefully I can order one unit then.
