I purchased a Springfield XDM (the "M" means match-grade barrel) in the 9MM about 20 years ago, and it was the worst firearm purchase I ever made. It shot about a foot high at 9" right at 25 yards. I thought I was just pulling my shots (though it was a very consistent group), so I handed it over to a buddy who was known to be a rock-solid shooter. He ended up getting the same group as me. So I called Springfield and went through the procedure to send it back for warranty repair. They sent me the pistol back with a note that it was shooting within spec. A foot high is within spec? Ironically, they included their test target that had several of the rounds clipping the top of the target. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from, and since I was a long-time customer, he took it as a trade-in on a Sig P229. I've never had another Springfield, and if you gave me one today, I'd immediately assign it to paperweight duty. Never again!

@@ASPextra Ultimately it comes down to 1) consequences of not having an adequate (or any) supply of said resource, 2) the convenience (or inconvenience) of keeping the extra supplies/items with you, and 3) your own sense of priorities. To your examples - the consequences of not carrying a fire extinguisher (which I do in my primary vehicle, and really should in all of them) is the increased risk of loss of property, it is fairly convenient to keep one on hand, and the preservation of said property is a fairly high priority. With the supplies, the consequence of not keeping 72 hours of supplies on hand are not good, but likely not life threatening (save for lack water of course), the convenience of keeping those supplies is, well moderately inconvenient, but in my mind I don't consider it a high priority as I believe the likelihood of an event that would require those supplies to be very low, at least where I live. With the extra ammo, the consequences of not having an adequate supply could be quite severe (of course, then we run into the question of what is adequate), the convenience of carrying the extra ammo is very convenient, and to my mind surviving an event that would require a firearm to resolve is about as high a priority as there could be. Self defense in rural areas, there are two sides. First, while we, generally, trust our neighbors and therefore don’t believe that we are in danger, we secondly know that police help is 20 to 40 minutes away if something goes bad. I was raised in a rural area 10 miles off pavement and 20 miles from the county seat. Like wise if I carry on the right strong side - around 3:30 o’clock. What is the best way to draw I am the driver and buckle up? I found it is very difficult to do. I don’t want to store it in any other places other on me for the legal and access reason (the state I am in does not allow to store firearms in glovebox or center console).
@ASPextra2 күн бұрын
Drawing from that strong side postion while seated in a vehicle is another topic altogether. But the simple answer is that it has some significant challenges that carrying front of the hips does not. Truely, it's somethat you need to work out in a dry fire mode in your vehicle to find the best way to get to your specific position in your specific vehicle. I think what you'll find is that it's pretty difficult to have a efficient and visually quiet draw from the strong side while seated in a vehicle. For most it will require driving the elbow it a more outward position as it slides between the seats and possibly raising the hips a bit to get to the grip of the pistol. UNLOAD your pistol then after tripple cheking it, go out to your garage and practice it dry.

@lexlane93533 күн бұрын
I'm not saying this is the answer but perhaps others will chime in. When I carry appendix or even pocket for rides I remove the pistol and have a holster that I place the firearm into for the drive. Holster stays put in the car. Then I have to shift it back when I get out of the car. pocket carry is easier since it stays in a stiff holster that I transition back and forth. It is a hassle, but I can get to the firearm easier if I need to draw from the vehicle. However, this moving the firearm around is a hassle. I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but this works for me so far.

This has come up before and you are the first to even describe a draw and re-holster. I’m still not sold on it as I’m aware of zero national level instructors or agencies that endorse it. I believe having the firearm at your waist has significant advantages but if you make a video of your draw, I’ll watch with an open mind.
Even tho I don't trust the feds....😅 federal 40s&w law enforcement 165 gain jhp HST is what I put in my everyday carry 🤾🏾
And yet my grandfather’s house right next to ours was shot up in a drive by shooting with 5 bullets through his picture window.
Yikes!
Some 200+ explosive devices are found in the US every year. Mostly it’s disgruntled employees. And the devices are found / removed with no explosions or injuries.
Are you closing one eye or both eyes open with the iron sights?
What if I can only shoot with one eye open?
Then shoot with only one eye open, the 'you must shoot with both eyes open' is not a hill I'll die on. I know of many shooters with vision issues that require them to close an eye and while some could do some work to change it but I am aware of one shooter that did over a year and a half of vision therapy to resolve their issue and I just don't know if the juice is woth the squeeze for everyone.
Mastermind tactics is where it's at.
There’s not a single place that I’d go without the 640 J-Frame and model 66. Though I have access to the Glock 17 & 19 I guess I’m what y’all would consider a Fudd cause I carry a brace of revolvers.
What makes you go that route?
The thing I don't like about appendix carry is, don't point your firearm at anything you don't want to destroy. Where is the firearm pointed when you bend over.
its in my holster
Any suggestions for seatbelt to not be in the way w appendix carry when driving???
I'm not saying this is the answer but perhaps others will chime in. When I carry appendix or even pocket for rides I remove the pistol and have a holster that I place the firearm into for the drive. Holster stays put in the car. Then I have to shift it back when I get out of the car. pocket carry is easier since it stays in a stiff holster that I transition back and forth. It is a hassle, but I can get to the firearm easier if I need to draw from the vehicle. However, this moving the firearm around is a hassle. I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but this works for me so far.
I pull my shirt over the seatbelt after I buckle in
Once I sit down and buckle, I usually have to pull the gun up, so part of the grip is exposed. Otherwise, the belt crosses the top of the grip for me.
@@Howi152This is the correct answer.
Strong side hip too
03:45 That was a good observation and something people may need to consider
Id be interested to see plated #4 buck (Fiocchi makes nickel plated #4b) vs the regular lead and compare it
That would be interesting!
Like at the taquera!
Exactly!
