Thanks so much for sharing your experiment. I’ve learned a lot. I haven’t tried this but I wasn’t aware how thin your paints have to be. I will know now for a future pour. 🤟

Thanks Joanne! I'm glad it was helpful! I think this technique calls for the thinnest paints possible. (before they just melt apart. lol) 💕

Hi Meta, Good Job! I love this technique. I watched Dwight's videos many times and I struggled for quite a while to get results I like. I found it takes a lot of water. Maybe 20% . I found the right consistency by watching it dribble from the stir stick. As I lift the stick from the paint I watch how high I have to lift the stick where the impression on the paint in the cup goes from being a mound to a vortex. I keep adding water until that transition from mound to vortex happens when the stick is about 1 inch above the paint in the cup. It is an incredible amount of water but it works well. Recently, since results are still not completely predictable, I did a test of many different Americana colors. I put stripes of different colors like a rainbow to see the difference in how much they reacted. There was quite a difference from color to color. For example. Light Orchid was very reactive, but Lavender was not, even though they are both shades of purple. True Blue is and Baby Blue was not. And so on. I've purchased several hundred dollars in Americana paints and made many of these. OK I'm crazy. I put the black in a household paint sprayer and coat my colors with a thin coat. Instead of a puddle pour and dump, I put the paint covering the canvas with some scenery, spray on the black and spin the canvas on a motorized spin table. By doing that I'm stretching the paint from the center instead of from the edges. I get complete coverage with no black hole. Sorry, I don't mean to brag, it's a lot of fun and a lot of work. Enjoy and thanks Meta for the video.

Yes this technique definitely calls for very thin paint! I've done these types of pours with decoart metallics many times, but this is my first time trying out the Decoart Americana Paints. I really like the effect they gave! I look forward to experimenting with it more. I actually love the black center, I feel like it gives the paintings a depth, and focal point that I really enjoy. But I've never tried spinning one of these out before. I think I'll have to give it a try! Thanks so much for watching, and the advice on which Americana paints are more reactive. It's funny how some work better than others for the effects we are searching for. I've found the same to be true with the metallics as well.

Sorry if a dumb ? but after reading & trying to visualize your process I'm wondering if using a motorized vs reg/manual cake spinner makes a noticeable difference when stretching something like a bloom for example? I have a decent cake spinner-same 1 a few other Artists use w/np yet despite making sure its level & remains level while rotating my cells end up more warped than stretched driving me crazy!!! Thanks!😊

Hello Meta, I must say that of I tried out many many different pearl pour recipes and for me girl your recipe work every time for me. Now that been said, I think you and I have the same climate, I live in Nevada Las vegas area. So paints dry very fast. Again I'm so happy I found your channel, and all the teaching, I don't know if you know decoart makes a pearl acrylic paint and I thought why not use it and it turn out wonderful. It is thinner then the decoart acrylic paints and metallics but it does a give a wonderful soft looking painting.

Thank you so much Terry! I'm so glad that my recipe worked for you! I think climate has a lot to do with pouring, and it's one of those factors that can be overlooked. I will keep my eye out for the pearl acyrlics, and try those out as well if I find them. I love finding new paints that will make pearls!
