Trying on the new lamb jams, and a BREECH delivery I've never seen before. | VLOGMAS 2022 | Vlog 643
I know it's only day two... but these lambs are SOOOO CUTE!!!
Over the years, I've been given some sweaters to help with cold lambs... and someone graciously sent me some new ones that I HAD to try on.
Also, the boys have been bad... and it's led to Billy and a sore foot.
AND... I had a super ewe deliver a breech lamb... BUTT FIRST!! (ouch!)
A couple more losses today, but was able to successfully foster a triplet... so that was good!

SANDY! Try putting vet wrap around the glass bottles. It will not only make the bottles easier to hold but cushion the bottle if it falls. Make sure you wrap the bottom too! We did this in both of our Emergency Veterinary Hospitals, it saved thousands of dollars every year.

One reason that that they put some meds in glass is that glass isn't gas or liquid permeable and will stay at full strength and many plastics are permeable. Also, glass is easier to sterilize before filling. But I could be wrong....

Not sure if this is the case with Metacam, but I know some meds can react chemically with plastic. But putting vet wrap around glass bottles is a great idea- going to start doing this myself. Thanks as always for an interesting video- I always learn something!

Back in 1926 my Dad was a breech birth - bum first, not legs first. And as a thank you to the doctor he pooped in his hand. Poor Dad. He's never been allowed to live it down, but he's just turned 96 and going strong, so I guess it all worked out in the end. 😀

💡Sandi, oftentimes medicine bottles are glass and a dark amber colour to facilitate stable storage of the contents. However, it may be possible to slip a silicone sleeve (often used for coffee mugs, glass water bottles, etc.) on the bottle to keep it from breaking so easily.

A Frank breech is when the baby is basically in a pike position with the legs straight up toward the head and comes out butt first. Here's a link to a really interesting presentation on presentations (the position the baby is in immediately before/ during birth.) medlineplus.gov/ency/presentations/100193_3.htm

@Marilyn Gardner wouldn't complete breech be worse? Or is it not as bad because you can grab feet and turn it into a footling breech? Why didn't that turn into a blue link on Marilyn's name?
Nothing makes me feel as warm and fuzzy as watching Sandi with Mama's and lambs. Is there anything better? So happy to see the Golden Girls also. They are living their best life because of Sandi. Just wonderful to see it.
I love the way you say hello to each lamb. So Sweet!!!
SUGGESTION: I show Siberian Huskies, I put my liquid topicals in little spray bottles. That includes the Listerine I use for foot injuries that tend to be licked a lot. It's easier for me to give a spray when they need it without struggling to get them up on a table. Might help with your iodine on sheepy feetsies.
The sweaters on those triplets are adorable! You and Mark are Rockstars!!! I am in awe over the amount of time and energy that goes into raising your lambs and farming all of your crops. The colostrum reader is really interesting to me. I’ve had morning sickness though my whole pregnancy and the midwives keep saying all mothers will provide good quality milk regardless and it just shows that it’s not all equal
@CWorgen5732

She did say in the last lambing that part of it has to do with how long it has been since she dropped her lambs, and whether the lambs have drunk any. Also, our bodies respond to what our babies need. It comes through their saliva, into our skin, and our glands can tell exactly what the baby needs more/less of. Like you said, it's not all equal, but nearly all of it is good! My sister had hyperemesis gravidarum for both of her pregnancies (like princess Kate) and she pumped/nursed both her babies for a nice long time and had plenty spare in the freezer. They were so cute and chubby! Some babies need a LOT of fat, some need sugar, and some need antibodies. The colostrum is always super concentrated, as baby's tummy is so small, and the babe should get just what they need. That being said, there are a few women whose bodies can't produce enough, even with all the tips and tricks; for that, as Sandi has shown us, there is a safe alternative, and we are so glad! If you're worried, I recommend following The Leaky Boob on FB or IG. They have a very balanced take on helping those who need it, tips and tricks, and whether certain kinds of well-intentioned help is actually helpful.

Just try to drink plenty of fluids as you begin nursing. My sister had to stop breastfeeding her oldest because she wasn't producing enough, but she did a bit more research before her younger child was born. She was pretty upset with herself for not thinking about staying hydrated, but I remember reading about new mothers being given beer to help with breastfeeding in the old days. Her kids are in their 30s now and doing well.
