Try This Before You Replace The Fork Oil Seal
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Here I'll show you a method to clean off the grime and dirt trapped between the fork and oil seal. People have been successfully using this method for many years. Do give it a try before you replace the oil seal.
Disclaimer : Try it at your own risk.

Today I did it on my wife's Suzuki Savage. It works! ... Both sides of the fork are dry now. Thanks my friend an best regards from Germany !👍👍👍
Thanks for this video. I had no idea this was even possible, but I tried it and worked great.
Hi - and thank you for this tip. It certainly seems to have worked. I wonder how many seals need not have been replaced if people tried this first! Interesting as well - I didn't really see much debris on the tool. However it did release a small quantity of fluid which may have flushed out very fine particles. I'm guessing too that the tool helps to reseat the seal. It would be interesting to hear from a seal manufacturer on this. (And then again - if only we could design a 2-piece seal that could be fitted without stripping the forks...! - now I'm already thinking about it!) But what a time & money saver this trick is! Again well done for the idea and the clear instructions.!
Super effective. Thankyou very much!
Thank you so much you saved me about a $500 job (replacing fork seals ) at mechanic. This seemed to work for now- will update if any changes

Hey my bike’s oil has been leaking from a long time i did all of the steps so do i have to refill the oil on the shocker?
@amthedrkale

Looks like you'll need to refill the oil and change the oil seal and dust cover. Basically a complete rebuild.
It works thnks ma man🔥
Yeah, I don't have leaks I have squeaking but I don't know wich one it's. When I try to compress the forks my self the bike don't squeak, but when I'm riding it squeaks I'll try to clean the seals, thanks Mr.

Bad idea. There's nothing wrong with the seal if it's not leaking. You'll just be risking damaging your fork seal for nothing. This vid is fine if the seal is already leaking because you have nothing to lose by trying it.
You are a genius! But sadly this great tip did NOT help me because last month I replaced both seals in my Z1000R and this month I replaced both seals in my YBR125 and THEN I saw your brilliant video!!! Argh! Next time for sure! One observation - rub the edge of your plastic tool with fine abrasive paper to remove the sharpness of the cut plastic so you do not cut or damage the seal :) Many thanks :)
yes works fixed a 1979 r100rt NZ
I'd not advise using WD-40 as a lubricant if water attraction/retention is not desired. Also, WD-40 is not as rubber friendly as some other lubricants like Tri-Flow which would be much more ideal. Also, if trying this trick, use a very thin and flexible film like vinyl piece. I saw some notebooks or organizers come with section dividers that would work nicely. Also, at the very least, replace the fork oil as the old one is likely to be contaminated with water and gotten thinner, more likely to leak out.

Agreed to all your points. WD40 is used because it's widely available. Not all other products are available everywhere. Also, this technique is a temporary fix till a rider gets home/garage. Replacement of oil seal and fork oil will most certainly be required down the line.

@@amthedrkale I understand but using the right tools and chemicals make all the difference. Also, seals do last a lot longer if proper maintenance done timely and properly. Fork oil, engine oil, coolant, brake/clutch fluid, fuel tank, etc., people wait way too long to change the fluids and every single fluid in a motorcycle attracts water or forms water due to air inside which leads to corrosion and contamination which eventually eats the metal and the seals, o-rings, etc. and creates the big repairs. I believe proper and timely done maintenance will prevent majority of these types of issues people experience on their vehicles. Another reason why seals go bad is inactivity, meaning, bike sits unused for a long time (months, years) and the seals dry up. Much like the seals in the master cylinder of the brake system, fork seals stay pliable by the fork oil keeping them lubed. Those riding in rain and bad weather could also invest in neoprene type fork wraps that keep the dirt out before they get on the fork and work their way in, more so with not inverted forks. Ride safe!
Thanks working my bike 🥰
Seriously working you save my khuwari and paisa😁

What did you actually did with that plastic?
@nitin7218
3 жыл бұрын
speed tune That 'J ' shape of the plastic collects dust and sediments from the oil seal, now it doesn't need replacement for a while.
What is the use of wd40? Does it repair the actual leak area?
@amthedrkale
2 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't repair anything. WD40 helps the tool slide in between the seal smoothly.

If forks were leaking oil this is useless. You need proper oil amount in each fork. This is for safety in handling.
This work bro... Thanks for help

I don't see the point of that DIY plastic. You could just have used the rug. Also, having the seal fail after only 8k km is a bit unusual for a decent bike. What's the make of your bike, is it chinese?

Very dusty & bumpy riding conditions are more the point with a leaking seal, not distance travelled. Use a rag???? 😱Yes, you should probably think a little longer before typing a response.

Nonsense. If oil leaked the amount of oil inside is not enough to work properly anymore. Do yourself a favour and change the fork seals.
