'Truth is a Right Wing Concept' | Melanie Phillips

British journalist Melanie Phillips argues that we have slipped into an age of "cultural totalitarianism". She bases this off a widespread societal refusal to listen to evidence, accept reason and consider dissenting views, which has the effect of reducing common freedoms for citizens across the Western world.
See their full interview here: • King Charles & the Fut...
Melanie Phillips' column currently appears in The Times, but over the years she has been published by the Guardian, Observer, Sunday Times and Daily Mail. She also writes for the Jewish Chronicle and Jewish News Syndicate.
Her best-selling book Londonistan, about the British establishment’s capitulation to Islamist aggression, was published in 2006 by Encounter, New York. She followed this in 2010 with The World Turned Upside Down: the Global Battle over God, Truth and Power, and in 2018 with her first novel, The Legacy. This is the third time she and John have sat down to talk.

In a post-truth society mental illness is not only enabled, it is cheered on and encouraged. That's not what compassion looks like, that's what cruelty and cowardice looks like.

It's not even recognized as illness anymore. The postmodernists afirm - like Foucault - that every institution that segregates people out of the normal somehow (prisons, mental sanatories, religious communities) are, by definition, an oppressive tool of the dominant class. This snowball is rolling since, at least, 1970's, and today is consuming we all...

If every truth is only subjectively true, then the assertion that every truth is only subjectively true, if true, is only subjectively true. If so, the assertion is not worthy to be argued for or against. If the assertion itself is assumed to be objectively true, then it's self-contradictory.

In Spain, the historian Pio Moa began as a communist in his youth, during his early years he participated in the anti-Franco opposition as one of the founding members of the Marxist-Leninist terrorist organization GRAPO. Expelled from it in 1977 and sentenced to one year in prison in 1983, his thinking evolved until he came to hold conservative political positions and defend many aspects of the Franco dictatorship. Ironically, his change was due to his project to write a book on the origin of the civil war, there he collided head-on with the fact that everything he knew about the civil war was full of lies and falsehoods, the popular leftist front began in 1931 fomenting violence and hatred, constantly threatening to do by force what the law could not achieve, did not accept any electoral result that did not favor them and the straw that broke the camel's back was the assassination of the opposition chief Calvo Sotelo , the assassins were the assault guard under the orders of the then president of the courts.

Culturally, it appears that all worldviews are now accepted without question, as long as they don’t smell of Christianity or conservatism (traditional ideologies that progressives mistakenly believe oppose progress and innovation). As someone who has both studied and taught philosophy for 20+ years, I have learned that it depends entirely on which journal you wrote for. There are many academic journals that value a more traditional, logically rigorous approach; there are also more ideologically-leaning ones. The problem isn’t that the latter exist; rather, it’s that they are aiming to become more credible than the former. However, the only way to do so is by attempting to undermine the idea of rigour and truth (though it should be remembered that philosophers over the centuries have shown that the idea of truth is extremely precarious and might not operate in the way we think it should).

Chaos vs. order. You have people, and we all know them in our own circle of influence who seem to thrive on chaos and are never calm or content, constantly anxious looking for validation of their own value, and we know others who seek order, avoid chaos, seem to have an inner peace that doesn’t require constant validation. Regardless of how you reach the latter, the world and life is much more functional in that state of mind and is still attainable for anyone, but as the woman points out people in positions of leadership are catering to those who prefer chaos and disorder so if you don’t want that you have to to the best of your ability remove yourself from that environment. We are living the novel Atlas Shrugged👀🤷‍♀️👀🤷‍♀️👀🤷‍♀️👀

Not a single issue since I left that hospital. And not a single mental health issue ever before I entered that hospital.
