If you back a product, your viewership will automatically associate the product or service you are promoting with your character. If the product is junk, we will feel betrayed bc your strength of character and your honesty are some of the qualities we love most about you (along with your empathy and compassion for others). If you back a product, make sure you use it and are honest about it. As long as those two things are consistent, your fan base is only going to grow. ❤ you're an inspiration, Mister James.

Not everyone is like you though. A large number of us could give two shits less what a content creator promotes and would never be talked into buying something from a content creators advice. They are simply entertainment. Not like they are family. They can promote whatever the hell they want. If they are making more money to better themselves then good for them.

I personally hate most sponsor sections, so I really love when creators put a little timer or time stamp saying "here is where sponsored content ends." It's a little nod to the fact that viewers don't really appreciate more ads than we already have thrown at us. That said, as long as you would truly recommend a product and it isn't just to get a wad of cash for some product you know nothing about, go for it and make those deals. I understand content creators wanting to make a little extra scratch.

I do fast forward through the adverts if I can grab my phone quickly enough, but I've learned to zone out on anything different from the original storyline. I also agree that your belief or confidence in whatever product you're endorsing is nice. However, I also understand that famous people endorsing a product doesn't necessarily mean they use or believe in said product. It can be just a paycheck for them. You do you. It won't affect my enjoyment of your content. I trust you to be as honest with us, the faceless audience, as you are with your employees.

I grew up in the 80s. It was expected that there would be commercials in the shows we watched. "Here is a word from our sponsors" is not a crime and it allows for the creator to publish more content. Everyone talks about how we need to support our favourite authors or artists or webcomics, and this is just another way for us to show our support. I do agree with many of the people who mention that it should be something that you, yourself, are willing to attach your name to and stake your reputation on.

Since you asked, here's my two cents on the sponsors/ads you're being offered; I have seen amazing ads in sponsored segments from creators who were given the freedom to morph the ad into something that sounds genuinely their style. When IDidAThing does an ad read, it's not *just* "Hey guys, I'm being sponsored, check this out", he starts with an amazing segue that makes it nearly unnoticable that I *started* watching an ad, and then he follows up with engaging scenarios where he has a problem and benefits from the sponsor's product. Throughout the whole thing, it's just as entertaining as the rest of his video, and I've never seen but maybe a few content creators meet that level of creative engagement in their ads. If you can fit them into your style, make it sound *incredibly* natural to talk about this product, and maintain the same energy through the ad as the rest of your video, I think that will be your best case scenario. As for anything less engaging, I have come to tolerate ad reads. If I am present at the controls when an uninspired ad read starts, I will skip it, but it doesn't turn me off from the rest of the video. That said, I say do what you want! I like your content enough that I can tolerate a few ads.

I like how attorney Steven Lehto does ads, for the very few he's done, it's been for products he's used and enjoyed, and he dictates the terms that he gets to do them at the end, and that he can warn his viewers that there's an ad at the end if they want to skip after his story. Overall, though, I don't mind creators getting a piece of the action, but there are quite a few famous advertised products that dip into the shady end of things, and sometimes it's hard to tell until a lot of creators have already worked with them. As others are saying, I think most of us trust you to be selective, and then be truthful about the product to your best knowledge.

My favorite creators, who also do ad reads do two things I like: 1) They only advertise products they like, use, or believe in from real life. 2) they start the video with a quick "Today's sponsor is ___, more about them at the end of the video" then present their content and their ad read is near the end with "bonus content/outakes" after that. This lets me know up front, and I can skip or end the video there. Typically I am listening while driving, working, or at the gym, so I end up listening anyway (watch time for you) but if I'm totally not interested in your sponsor, I have control.

You're a business owner, like me. However, you are hilarious and a great storyteller. As I meet creators and talk to them about opportunities- they all say the same thing: as soon as you take money, you have a boss. The fun fades away. I listen to that perspective. I'm not you. As much as I would love to take a physics or chemistry class with you, I am not pushing 500K subs. And I get it... this is not an inexpensive venture. Cameras. Editing. Uploading. You've earned it. You should set YOUR terms. And let me know what those terms are! Because I would absolutely be a sponsor on your channel. Because it's freakin funny, entertaining and universal to all business owners! Kudos to you for being relatable to every business owner!

@EnigmaPSU Bc I know he owns the company and is doing well enough, but if you have watched any of his videos, the amount of stupidity this man puts up with in his daily life is reason enough to give this man a raise. It doesn't matter if he is making 1 million a year. I believe he'd put the money back into his business and in turn he'd help more people better there lives. That's why in my opinion, I believe he should make more money on KZread with ads. 10 seconds to 30 seconds of our time, when we pay nothing to listen to his stories.

I watch MANY (too many) KZread videos. Never would I have imagined that a Well and Sewer Service company would be one of my Favorites. And that is only because of YOU, Mr. Butler. As for the ads, if I see an ad that I am interested in, I watch it. But mostly, I skip right through them. Most of them are not appropriate for the type of video that they are embedded in. If you can get an advertiser who has Your morals, and is appropriate for the type of service you provide, I could imagine that I would watch them. Especially if they are Humorous.

I personally don't mind sponsored ads. I trust you to choose the right ones. What separates the annoying ads from the fun interesting ones is whether you have to go off a generic script like "Raid Shadow Legends" 🤣 or you get to do it in your own style using your own words because those are the ones that people won't skip over because it will just be additional original content.

Support James doing it. He deserves it, and deserves to grow his business more. If he makes an extra $10k a month from this, it frees up his company to do a lot more to be a blessing to his employees. Irresponsible comment.

Love your videos, they’re entertaining and informative. As for the paid ads, I don’t have a huge problem with that IF the products you’re recommending are actually something you would use or recommend to a family member, and not just shill for a company because they’re paying you to say nice things about them. I do trust your integrity and almost feel like that caveat doesn’t need to be said, but hey, I’ve never regretted making sure my thoughts are clearly communicated.
