Speaking as a Soldier, Soldiers HATE parades. They are a pain to plan and take up far more time than just marching along, even the small town ones. Also, they are going to have to ship the heavy vehicles up from GA (the closest base with large numbers of those types of vehicles), and loading those things up on a train are a whole other set of troubles.

No Mr. Trump, the world didn't laugh at the US, we laugh at you and your administration inability to understand how your government works.

As a Canadian it is a bit nonsensical that Trump keeps citing Canada as having stricter immigration laws because it is bunk. Canada's immigration policy works quite well as it is a fundamental aspect of our population/economic growth objectives; but those objectives are literally the exact opposite of the Trump regime's immigration policy. Canada is in the process of making it easier for naturalized citizens to sponsor their family members and we have consistently increased the number of refugees we accept each year. Canada does employ a merit based immigration policy, but guess what, so does the USA and every other country in the world. Even as a Canadian I can't just immigrate to the USA on a whim. If I want to stay longer than 6 months or work I need to get a visa. The visa process is entirely based on merit and likelihood of success and contribution to the economy.

helveticaification - I agree that for the most part I am only preaching to the choir; however, every once in a while an anti-immigration person will read my posts. I have no illusions that I change their minds because facts don't matter to a lot of people but it does give them food for though even if they don't want to admit it. I have had some fairly in-depth online discussions about the facts around universal health care and the difference in the effective tax rate differences between Canadians and Americans (shocker, middle class Americans pay higher taxes than middle class Canadians) with some effect. It is a minute effect, but an effect nonetheless. Beyond that, it keeps me honest and informed because it forces me to do the actual research to back up my arguments. Cheers, have a lovely day.

The Noble and Mighty Beaver as a fellow Canadian, i'm totally on board with our immigration policy feeding the population count. Without this foresight we could lapse into Japan's situation. The US does have a more strict set of rules / more hoops to jump through overall. That might be justified because as you pointed out, our social and economic framework arguably depends on healthy immigration numbers to bolster a much smaller population that would otherwise shrink and potentially cause a cycle of economic slowdown. There's so much bad information circulating the states and folks making emotional decisions.. not sure if their administration can turn it around in time or if they will lose a formidable workforce of dacas - maybe our country could entice tradespeople and professionals that are needed with some kind of immigration programme that benefits both countries.. though part of me believes a majority of potus supporters seek to punish daca proponents more than they want to find the best long term solution, so however much cooperation can be expected from the office in charge is likely dependent more on appearances and egos than anything else :/

Li Gu - The current administration has very publicly stated that will gladly receive people rejected by the US immigration ban (muslim countries). I'm sure that DACAs would likely be willingly brought into the country if they applied. They are educed in the US and have a high potential of successful transition and contribution to the social and economic network.

I've been saying this since he announced he was running. I was born in 1980 and I clearly remember seeing this asshole all over TV since I was in single digits. And since the age of 4 or 5, there's only one word that's ever come to mind when I think "Donald Trump" and that word is "SLEAZY." Even if I didn't actually know that word at 5 years old is irrelevant; I could FEEL the sleaze. The word may have come later, but the feeling has been a constant. So I try to wrap my head around how anyone my age or older doesn't see his sleaze. How could anyone over the age of, like, 33 have possibly voted for this monstrosity?!

Seriously though, only allowing people who have degrees and what not defeats the original purpose of why immigrants came to America. To be able to find opportunities and have the chance to grow and have a better life.

Yes, there are people who so crave attention, the nature of the attention is of no consequence....... the one in the band that can't sing but somehow got a vocal mic, ruins not just songs but also the band's chances of playing that club again....... the one that plays hideous chord embellishments just so the entire club looks at him....... the guitarist you let sit in on a tune that takes a 90-minute solo, and really loud....... the too-late-for-what-have-I-done types, catastrophically oblivious and apathetic as to their effect...... drive 'em away and there's nobody left to notice their noticeable performance. Whatever it takes to be seen, regardless of the effects...... yikes. And while there may be a world "laughing at us", there is some remarkable degree of empathy and even sympathy out there as well...... for which I express gratitude....... the shallow president cares nothing of the image he conveys as to the values and disposition of Americans. Always a pleasure when people outside USA expect the entitled boss-man who gauges one's value on their melanin levels but nearly do a double-take when someone asks them about their heritage....... when the bellhop, maid, waitress, or busboy in another country was treated as an equal by the American traveler, it does mean something good. Do what you'd never see nor imagine the subject herewith to do..... way down at that "native" level..... those pesky vendors that you hear about from cruise ship vacationers that hound and badger the tourist...... take a few minutes to diminish that regal "get my luggage, boy" image and you may very likely find you'd trade your entire neighborhood for some you'll meet a long way from home. Thank the Highest Power that those with not so much to lose can have a value exponentially greater than those with so much to lose. And if something yanked the obscene wealth from beneath this one, ideally we shrug and say "welcome to planet Earth......." Damn sure hope a lesson's learned before something irrevocable happens....... again........next election, it's 100% offline..... firewalls are as subject to corruption as their operators........ballots and boxes, stamps on the hand, plenty of security cams. Either that or we just go with slot machines.

We are the party of fiscal responsibility. We are sick and tired of liberals running up the nation debt and... Oh wait we are in power now? Though the tracks could just be switched out for a rubber variant rather than the standard metal ones. We use them on our historic tanks all the time when they are required to go on the road, not allowed to even be on the road unless it uses rubber tracks.

We have been watching "1869" on PBS. My father claimed relationship to a monarchy. So why are we not royal? This program, through an old man's grandmother's journal explains to a modern teen girl, why the senseless politics, wars, and greed of ruthless men, destroyed his familys legacy. Not just Trump. My daughter-in-law (35), bought a copy of 1984 to reread and loaned it to me. Her husband, my son, one of his brothers and another D-I-N, didn't read it in school because of dyslexia. 2 other sons read it, 2 youngest were not assigned it. But some of them did see the movie! ! Of the 12 grandchildren over age 15, NON have even heard of the book ! ! ! The 20' s started to read, quit because "it's too hard". I was appalled, and started to look for a copy of the movie. Looking to get Fahrenheit 451, also. With most of the WW2 vets and good number of Vietnam vets, gone or never talking about their experiences, the lack of hard history being taught, - -Our country, as it was, may be ending at this 4th generation. On the death of my last uncle, aged 93, one of my boys commented that I was now "the old ones". This " Old One" looking at "the young ones" , who think a war is just "Mortal Combat" - "Call of Duty" or some other game with a reset button, A 20 yr old grandson, flying drones over Arab countries for the Air Force, who BELIEVES it is JUST surveillance, and they will never send Him into combat. I want to go back to my "Old Ones" and beg them not to shield their children from knowing about the cold, hunger, poverty, depredation, danger, and discrimination they endured, coming to America, in order to give their future children security. (We were Scandinavian!) "1869" The PBS program is going to be helpful to my family & timely, even though some kids are struggling with truths of events they have never heard of. Find your own lost truths. We MUST see history repeating, or perish.

When I first read "Military Parade, I was like "Oh neat, a parade honoring and thanking the veterans for all they've done? That sounds like a nice idea! Personally I'm not a big fan of soldiers since I think about 90% of war stuff is just propaganda bullshit and they really shouldn't be going along with that. But if soldiers boycott this fucking thing and nobody shows up I'll salute them no problem. I guess the chain of command wouldn't allow for that, even so it's not like they can courts-martial and execute the entire army for treason, so fingers crossed they'll show some backbone and tell this thing to go screw itself.

Most of them won't even have the person in charge accusing their opponents of treason if you don't clap for them like Trump just did. And it's not thanks to the military, it's thanks to the rules of a democracy. Your military unfortunately isn't seen as the individuals fighting, it's seen as the people who give the orders, and those people are pretty shitty, * including* to those who are doing the actual fighting, losing their limbs, their health and even their lives for POS who are willing to sacrifice their own people for personal profit. It's not liberalism that makes you see this, it's looking around and having the proof and the disappointment thrown at your face.

Im surprised it never came up during the election that he is a draft dodger. However, I remember that he once was saying that him doing business in the States is somewhat equal to fighting in Vietnam in terms of serving his country. Was just speaking to someone the other day about my age (late 20s) from India. He wants tp bring his parents, who are in their late 50s, to the US. He's their only son, and he's married to an American. His parents had good jobs and saved for retirement, plus, he considers it his job to care for them in their old age (and legally, to sponsor a family visa he'd have to be able to support them). Unfortunately, even though they meet financial requirements and are able to afford an immigration lawyer, they were told that the process would cost thousands of dollars and take a MINIMUM of 18 years. As his parents would then be in their mid 70s, at the youngest, they decided that would not be a good point in their lives to relocate. It's sad that even when people are trying to do everything the "right" way, the system takes so long that it is utterly pointless.

As a European who likes to follow this political thing in the US for entertainment purposes it's well known that Trump himself is basically somebody that agrees with every democrat. He constantly goes like "I agree" when democrats talk. But then a republican goes "no, we don't agree on that" and suddenly neither does Trump. This happens ALL THE DAMN TIME. You don't abandon your country just because you don't like the President. You go out and vote. Presidents don't talk the way Trump does because it is disrespectful to other people. You wouldn't like being disrespected so don't do it to others. It's the way decent people behave. With morals.
