The state must prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt that Trump paid to suppress the affair as a way to help his election campaign. To do that they must establish 1) there was indeed an affair; 2) there was indeed a payoff with an NDA; 3) the motivation for the payoff was to help the campaign. On my check sheet I have all 3 checked at this point. The defense gets to put on their case, but the hole is very deep at this point.
