White House furniture and draperies, etc., are kept in warehouses and new occupants can choose some things from those instead of buying new. The presidential desk, for instance, is chosen from antiques we already have in storage. Much is donated, too.

Trump actually did speak to the committee that is in charge of repairs/decor. No one was really keeping up with repairs. He and the First Lady did a lot of restoration that was needed and repairs that were long over due. As far as the decor, they basically switched furniture, paintings, etc. around and he even paid for a few items, not sure exactly which ones. Everything was long over due. It looks a lot better.

the furniture replacement of some of the room takes place every 4 years ,so the tours of people visiting can mock on every presidential wife´s bad taste. It's a kind of legacy, the spouses get phgotographed in the rooms for Decoration magazines. Upgrading systems like heating and cooling, a fresh coat of paint, and flooring is not decorating its maintenance and should be paid for by the taxpayers. Any other changes should be paid for by the new occupants and taken with them when they go.

Yes, it has been said that it was "probably" being returned to a museum. But when a museum curator reclaims art that has been on loan, it is usually handled carefully, packed in a crate and wheeled out. They don't usually just grab valuable art and just walk carelessly out the door with it like that. At least qualified museum curators don't.

When Margaret Thatcher moved into 10 downing Street she first checked it's expenditure. She was shocked by how inefficient and how costly it was to maintain it and requested changes to be made to save on money. Her philosophy was if you can manage to run a household you can certainly run a country. Frivolous spending, even if it's mismanagement of a small scale expenditure reflects on a man's character.

@Sally Sagadin, just so you know the Rose garden only had 6 rose bushes left from the Jackie Kennedy area. 60 years took a toll on the entire garden. The garden now has over 60 rose bushes some of which are named after JFK and the Pope. The garden was beautifully and elegantly done.
