Key insights: 🛡️ The US and NATO providing more Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine is urgently needed given the Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian targets. 🇨🇳 The EU has adopted sanctions against China and is also concerned about the relationship between China and Russia, positioning themselves as potential partners for the US in dealing with global challenges. 🌍 NATO will have to have something to say about global challenges like artificial intelligence, climate change, and cyber attacks to sustain support in places like Canada and the US. 🌍 A second Trump administration's policies towards NATO might shift American military focus towards the Indo-Pacific area, impacting global power dynamics and potentially leading to a drawdown from NATO. 🌎 "Stop deluding yourselves. You are part of an increasingly contested space that includes the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic." 🌍 NATO is not in crisis, but the true test of its strength will be during a war at the highest end of the conflict spectrum. 🇪🇺 The prospect of another Trump presidency might deliver a much-needed "kick up the backside" to Western European countries to take NATO defense and deterrence more seriously. 🇺🇸 There is now a group of influential people in the Republican party that want to completely change US NATO policy.
