There are two programs that are classified as entitlements, Social Security and Medicare. If you pay in you are entitled to collect benefits. When politicians talk about "entitlements", they are talking about these two programs.

First what they need to do is stop taxing SS benefits. Second get rid off all the middle men that are making everything so expensive. 22K for an emergency overnight stay at a US hospital is ridiculous, charging $1500 for a 15 minute non surgical doctor visit when all they do is just talk to you, $1800 for a 30 second CT.

Why is Social Security not an entitlement program? Social security is not an entitlement program. It is a wholly self-funded program supported by the employee/employer payroll tax, interest earned on the trust fund balance, and taxes on the benefits. I guess the media thinks you are stupid.

He's now talking about eliminating the payroll tax. People qualify to draw Social Security by paying into it through the payroll tax. After paying in 10 years you are qualified to start drawing it when you reach the age of 62. Also, without the payroll tax . no more money is going into the SS trust fund which means it will go broke much faster.

@@hurzak I read about that. It would never happen because it would have to go through congress, but eliminating federal income tax and replacing it with a sales based tax would be interesting imo. Never happen, but it could work. Think of all the money we'd save in IRS funding cuts. Either way, cutting out wasteful SS spending while not effecting benefits is a good thing...isn't it?

How is there wastefull spending in Social Security? The money is only used to payout benefits for those who's qualified to receive them.. And if Congress is taken over by Republicans we all know they want to cut or eliminate the program so don't take chances with our Social Security, Vote Blue. Where would those sustainable funds come from? I guess illegals are a bandaid for now, but shouldn't we acknowledge why are society is aging and that it's the most significant reason? Medical advancements plays a role for sure, but low birth rates over the last few decades is the real problem, don't you think?

You have to have your head buried pretty deeply in the sand to pretend he wasn't talking about cutting entitlements. Back when the Republicans used to have a platform cutting entitlements was always on it. I wish they would just own their position. Social Security and Medicare face insolvency and making cuts is one way to save it. Democrat's plan is to raise taxes to cover and Republican's plan is to make cuts. Neither party is willing to stand behind their position.

All earned income should be taxed for Social Security and Medicare. That's the "fix" that's going to take care of the under-funding problem (which Trump did nothing to address in his 4 years). Trump's "solution" to cut benefits on this retirement benefit funded by payroll withholding is criminal.

Get rid of it. Give people back all of the money they have paid and be done with it.

@@perseffany Making cuts to what? Where in this clip did he say making cuts to social security? And FYI, SSI is an entitlement, while SSDI is something totally different. So with that being said, there is definitely some money that can be found in making some cuts to that part of the program. Not everyone believes that people who hasn’t paid much into something should receive a check from the government each month just to finance their lifestyle. Before we had entitlement programs such as SSI, whereas tax payers had to foot the bill in that regard, families took care of their own sick and shut ins. And i’m also sorry to say that most adults who apply for this entitlement, (SSI) are often the very ones that are too lazy to work, so they resolve to lying to the government about an illness or claiming a drug addiction just to receive money each and every month. Not saying that drug addiction is not a disease but many times it’s brought on by your own choice, absent of anything else. So even if Trump is speaking about making cuts specifically in this area, it very well may be warranted. The same with public aid and welfare, people abuse the hell outta that too which hurts the people who truly need it. I’m glad Trump is still standing on the business of draining the swamp! And if you’re NOT part of the swamp…the ones who perpetually abuse and misuse the system, who’s intention is to always take from the pot while never putting anything back into it, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. This is nothing but another leftist ploy to place fear into people’s hearts! Trump is FOR the people, and it’s to my knowledge that he will never take away any benefit that people rightfully deserve! Working Americans pay Social Security during their lifetime and also pay for Medicare insurance as soon as they reach age sixty-five. Unlike this billionaire most Americans also paid for their share in taxes too. The little chump change of retirement and health care is deserved by many. It's the exact same spin for when he said the exact same stuff about the VA, and the VA benefited greatly from it (ask any ver that had to deal with the VA over the past 10+ years) Cutting waste internally, not benefits received by the people using it... VERY different things, and it is absolutely correct to say that waste, theft, red tape and corruption run rampant in entitlement programs.

Medicare is paid into monthly. I pay 170.00 dollars each month. Then co-pays. MEDICAID IS HEALTH WELFARE. SSI, Is also welfare. SUPPLEMENTAL SOCIAL INCOME...for illegals. FRA? Federal Reserve account? That is a private bank.FICA?

This is absolutely insane! I have a disability and receive SSDI. I can't even manage now on what i receive. Worked all my life and for what? What are we supposed to live on? Air? I get $1,444 a month and with that my rent is $1,200 for a one-bedroom apartment because I can't find anywhere cheaper.. Then I have to pay my car insurance, my phone, gas, food, medicare part B and the list goes on and on. I live day to day wondering if I'm going to eat tomorrow. Shame on him! What has America become?

There are only two programs that are considered "entitlements". Social Security and Medicare. Both programs face insolvency. One of two things had to happen. Either taxes get raised or benefits get cut. Democrats want to raise taxes to cover the shortfall. Republicans oppose the tax increase. Republicans stopped releasing a platform in 2019. Up until then "cutting entitlements" was on it each and every year. Either Trump wants to cut entitlements like he said here or he doesn't have a plan to address the problem bc he is opposed to tax cuts. Both parties hide behind the "waste and fraud" stuff bc they don't want to defend their plan. Waste and fraud could be eliminated and to programs still face insolvency.

The Republicans haven't released a platform since 2019 but back when they did, cutting Social Security and Medicare was always on it. Even if waste and fraud were 0, the programs are facing insolvency. Dems plan is to raise taxes to cover. Republicans plan is to make cuts. One of the two options has to happen. Neither party wants to stand behind their plan.
