To play devils advocate this is unprecedented territory being an ex president is the defendant so they are looking like they don't know how to deal with it. But this is a bond for an appeal which he won't win because the evidence is not going to change. It's just another delay tactic. Democracy has it's drawbacks.

I'd like to thank the judge who made this ruling. He (or she) has proven beyond any doubt that there is indeed a two-tier justice system in America.

The SCOTUS seems to be off the rails. We have a biased judge in Florida who is slow-walking everything. I never dreamed that political bias was a thing in the judiciary until now. ​​​@@mahaffer71 to answer your question in a very simplistic way, the NY AG is the plaintiff in this case (the one suing) because there is a NY law that gives the state of NY the ability to sue over fraud. it's actually really interesting, so I recommend reading the judgment for a good summary and history of the law. it's called Executive Law § 63(12). PBS has a copy of it that you can read, I just googled "trump new York fraud case" and went to the PBS result

​@@mahaffer71 I tried replying to this earlier but I think KZread ate my comment. so to answer in a simple way, the NY AG is the one suing because there is a NY law (called executive law § 63(12)) that empowers the NY AG's office to sue when there has been fraud. the original judgment in the fraud case has a good summary and explanation of the law's history so I recommend reading the decision for more information.

This is EXACTLY what Trump did, when on July 27th 2016 Trump yowled for Russian interference in America's election process, by saying, "Russia, if you're listening, I hope that you can find the 30k emails. I'm sure that you will be rewarded mightily by our press, if you do so." Reagan undermined America's middle class and lower class citizens in favor of moneyed interests and corporations. This is EXACTLY what Trump did, permanently cutting taxes for the ultra-rich while the tax cuts for the average Americans are going to expire next year. Republican president George Dubya Bush stated IN PUBLIC, TWICE, that "This'd be a whole lot easier if this was a dictatorship, just as long as I'm the dictator!" This is EXACTLY what Trump is doing, expressing his admiration for Putin, Kim Jong Un, Orban, and Trump openly claims that he wants to be dictator, for "one" day. The Republicans have been undermining America's democracy for at least 70 years. It's the Republican Party that drew the step-by-step road map for Trump to install a christo-fascist dictatorship over America.

@@goettling If he pays the $175m to go to appeal, then he doesn't get that back until the appeal is heard, assuming that he wins of course. On the other hand, that would mean that he doesn't have to pay the $279m losing difference until then. Average civil appeal takes six months.

Can't believe that he got that lifeline... especially as he just stated that he had the cash! Personally, I don't think he's worth a fraction of what he claims and I think we'll all find that out soon, but maybe not soon enough!

It's true, it was just a past time or it is just past time. Definitely it was a long past time. I really think Trump was told by Russian operatives as well as the GOP how to beat the system. Putin had legitimate grievances like stopping him from recreating the Soviet Union. Russians hated Mikhail Gorbachev and call him a traitor to this day. Everyone let in on this grand plan knew it was locked in as a win for Trump. The grand conspiracy where huge financial payouts was the motivation. Republican lawyers got into their careers because of greed. Not hard to get on board a sure bet winner. The Christians were always on board. Controlling women's abortions, even if they are not Christian [most are not Christian by the way] is all they wanted and they got it. Doesn't matter that most States allow for abortion and hasn't really changed anything, Christians are nothing but push overs anyways. They still think the Earth is 6000 years old even though the Bible doesn't even tell you how old the Earth is. They think December 25th is Christ's birthday. Some even believe the Earth is flat. Now they say Jesus was too weak to be god and a gun in every hand is what Jesus would have wanted? Clearly, the truth, who Jesus clearly says is the only one true path, will leave most self proclaiming Christians on the road to hell probably. It's a gamble but they are not supposed to gamble. Nah, Trump stopped abortions and says he's Christian. They will vote Trump. They are too busy being slaves to put much more into it. The truth doesn't put bread on the table in their rose coloured glasses world. Voting Blue will end Trump if people get out and vote. Democracy will continue but America will always have Democratic rule on the ropes. We are only one election away from a total autocratic dictatorship with one man calling all the shots. Putting your full support behind Trump only means one thing, you are not a patriot, Don't drape yourself with the flag and then proudly claim you support Trump saying he will be a dictator on the 1st day. Like John Stewart said on the Daily Show, "That's how it starts".

American "justice" is quickly becoming an oxymoron. Got cash, connections....? No problem. What a disgrace. The rest of the world would be laughing if this wasn't so, so bad.

Would love to know the Appeals Court’s justification for cutting down the initial verdict restrictions to less than quarter. Do the rest of the common folks get such lenient treatment? Think not.

Same day (right?) Truth Social went public and made how many millions of dollars? ETA: Also, let's ask the people in St. Louis who kept getting hit with tickets and fines for not being able to pay parking or speeding tickets. They didn't get a break.

As a foreigner, it seems like "barely avoided a government shutdown" is a multiple times per year thing in the US. No taxes. No vote. Who’s with me? Evangelicals don’t pay taxes but get to vote. CEOs and other rich people using tax loopholes and such don’t pay but get to vote. Single individuals, with no dependents, making less than $16,000 (not exact numbers) a year don’t pay in but get to vote. People with dependents making less than $25,000 (again not exact numbers, I’m just using it as a example of the annual earnings’ limits) they don’t have to pay but get to vote.

it could be that Trump had so overvalued his properties is that the initial penalty was excessive. and the appeal judge simply reduced the penalty to fit. means Trump is not a billionaire, never was, and his properties are shit
