Will Scharf says that Presidents need protections from prosecutors with a political agenda. I agree with that. But presidents all ready have those protections, in the form of neutral judges, the right to due process, the right to security from unreasonable searches and seizures, the right against self incrimination, and the right to a trial by jury, the same as everyone else. Presidential Immunity is redundant, unnecessary, and only serves to allow Presidents to commit crimes while in office.

Neutral judges, like the one in Trumps NY trial? LOL. Our judicial system isn't exactly what it was 20yrs ago. It's far more partisan. The Colorado ballot case is a perfect example. I don't know a single legal scholar that isn't a partisan that thought that was a sound ruling and the fact that it took the Supreme Court of the United States to step in and strike that down 9-0 is scary because it never should have gotten that far but it did because a lot of judges now days are politicians in black robes. When we have Prosecutors like Alvin Bragg/Letitia James who are openly campaigning in solidly Democrat jurisdictions that they're going to go after their political enemy it's a HUGE PROBLEM. We don't investigate people in search of a crime. We investigate a crime in search of the culprit and while there is a trial, and an appellate process, etc that all costs a lot of money, an insane amount of time and the process itself is a sort of punishment. The last thing we need is a constant cycle of a new Administration coming into power and combing through everything the previous administration did in search of a crime to punish them.

To allow a president to have total immunity is to say to God that no matter what a person does wrong, no matter what sin they commit, Jesus has no right to judge them because the supreme court has decided what is right and what is wrong. You could put immunity another way. Total immunity is like giving a spoiled child a revolver and then telling them to go play cops and robbers with children in the neighborhood that they do not like.

SCOTUS needs to make an immunity ruling on the two cases that are at issue right now and let them move through the judicial process expeditiously before the November elections. OMG what happened to the Republican voters? When has a President ever needed absolute immunity until Trump came along. It’s never even been a serious thought by any other President. There is some immunity for a President, rightfully so, under civil law, but for criminal acts, no.

I found this "Neither civil nor criminal immunity is explicitly granted in the Constitution or any federal statute. The Supreme Court of the United States found in Nixon v. Fitzgerald (1982) that the president has absolute immunity from civil damages actions regarding conduct within the "outer perimeter" of their duties. " ( Wikipedia ) He was campaigning.

This whole thing about Presidential immunity was settled 200 years ago. “Wasn’t the whole point that the president was not a monarch and the president was not supposed to be above the law?”

There needs to be rules whereby the Supreme Court has some type of oversight and audits on their findings. Additionally, there should be a max time these folks can serve! A lot of what we have now is folks more committed to candidates and not the law! Don't trust most of them at this point! Clarence Thomas should have he removed long ago! Especially after refusing to recuse himself from the hearing re Jan 6 attach on this country and there were some concerns as to the extent of his wife involvement!

Yeah, we all know what that means- nothing, no checks. We all know and see that effectively our congress is broken and can barely stand up to get anything done. Our budgets constatnly come up to the deadline and need extensions, we've gone 1-2 months without paying our government employees before and our credit rating is falling because of that. If the banks can't trust our government (credit rating) what trust do you think Supreme court actually has that congress actually does its job and impeaches election interference, like its supposed to. ... None. Its passing the buck.

If Trump really wants to be president, he would promise to order every cop in the US to undergo immediate Constitutional training and abolish qualified immunity for all police.

Article I, Section 3, Clause 7 specifies that a President impeached by the House and convicted by the Senate is nevertheless “liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment according to Law.” (i.e. The impeachment & conviction has to come FIRST, in order for a President or former President to be convicted of crimes once they are out of Office.)
