I'm not sure what you mean by "Don't let the trailer fool you" I love the trailer and the movie. I actually prefer this one to the John Wayne one. I have not read the book, I hear this one was truer to the book. ie. It was winter in the book. The trailer always gives me chills though. I am a total suck for a good western though. I put this one right there with Tombstone and Wyatt Earp. How ironic they would get Barry Pepper to play Ned Pepper.

Do you often refer to children as 'that bitch'? She did an amazing job, not just for her age, but in general. You can have your opinion, but at least don't talk about a girl who was what, twelve while filming this, as a bitch.

It is not a remake. Both versions are based on the same source material. And this version is truer to the book, in large part because Hailee is the real star of the movie, which is as it should be as the story is Mattie's story. Wayne's version is good, but that movie is more about him and less about Mattie.

I did not think it possible that I could like the new version as much as the original, but this version soars above the original. And I still love the original. This version actually has a real ring of truth of the harshness of life, and how those who possess true grit withstand and bear up under hard choices made, and their willingness to accept and pay for those decisions. A story that will stay with me forever.

I don't care what anyone else says, the performance by Jeff Bridges is immensely better than the one by John Wayne. I was a big fan of the old movie, but after seeing the remake I can't even watch the old one. Wayne just looks soft now.

BallerDan53 Agreed. I remember watching the original in the theater when I was a kid and I always liked it, especially the darker parts, but Bridges nailed it in this version. Granted, the Cohen brothers stuck a LOT closer to the original book in their version, and I think that's what helped. No disrespect to the great John Wayne, but Bridges was far and away the best in this role.

Ah this was simply a fantastic film! 2010 was a year of films to remember! Such flare and passion put into such intriguing protagonists and plots! True Grit, Black Swan, 127 Hours, The Kings Speech and The Fighter all highlighted the fact that despite the cgi shit like transformers and harry potter or the pathetic actors like megan fox and daniel radcliffe there is talent still there that effortlessly becomes a masterpiece

ok for you people who are saying "they should never have remade this movie" and crap like that, listen to this real good-the Coens clearly said they WEREN'T REMAKING THE MOVIE. they said they were REMAKING THE BOOK. they said the old movie was a lousy adaptation of the book, they said they were sticking more to the book! thumbs up if you're really annoyed by these stupid "remake" comments

Without a doubt one of the best movies of the year! Jeff Bridges was great, but this new girl is one of the best child actors to come out of Hollywood I've seen in years! And great job by the Coens on making one helluva a gritty PG-13 movie

This is how you write a strong female protagonist. Not invincible, not great at everything they try on the very first time they try it, and not without the need for help, and that help can even come from other male protagonists. She avenged her father by her own hand, and saved the Texas Rangers life. She didn't take any shit. She was flawed, and yet still incredibly strong.

The movie was great, but they spent way too much time developing two characters (The Marshal and Mattie). Movies usually develope one character and let the other ones become secondary characters. But it is still a great film.
