Truckers face post-pandemic challenges nationwide

Early in the Covid pandemic, supply shortages and delivery delays created a desperate need for drivers, and in-turn a financial opportunity for them. Now, however, truckers aren’t reaping the same financial benefits in the post-pandemic world. NBC News’ Shannon Pettypiece reports.

Just a correction on the showers they’re usually about $15….parking in Ontario California at the TA is $28 a day it’s been ridiculous for years,And another lie the companies and news like to talk about is that there’s a driver shortage, when it’s more of a driver retention problem because of the poor lifestyle

This is so true. When wages are good or conditions are good, you'll have a line of workers. Wages or conditions garbage, no one wants it. The trucking industry has been short 300,000 drivers for a couple decades. Trucking is the backbone of America, it needs to be valued.

Freight brokers are in a business to make money. It's a lot of drivers are the problem they don't know how to negotiate with a broker, and a broker is not going to give all his/her profit to someone they will probably never hear from again after hauling 1 load.

The last 6months was bad for owner operators due to the rates, which I get but you have to strategy to make sure you stay afloat. Stick to company drivers to avoid the headache.

I have great respect for truck drivers. It's a difficult way to earn a living with long hours, being away from home, sometimes dangerous conditions. I drove a uhaul truck multiple times across the country when relocating for jobs and can say from first hand experience it was often boring, frequently tiring, periodically risky due to other drivers or weather, and just taxing. Those drives made me really appreciate our truck drivers and the incredibly important role they serve in our economy and for our country. They don't get the respect and appreciation they deserve.

And the market is saturated sadly with market rates way down and have been all year. Now a growth of brokers taking their cut is just making this worse.

Also, you’ll be hard pressed to find any that speak english. Consequence of too much immigration is desperation and people willing to do jobs for less and curb regulations by driving longer hours than should be allowed. So aside from companies already trying to pay people so little, the influx of cheap labor makes it much easier.

What an awesome lady. With her experience she could consider becoming a company driver with a good company. She can make six figures plus retirement and all the benefits without the headaches and expense of owning your own truck. As long as she has a clean driving record. Love her great spirit and attitude.

Pandemic truckers jumped in and messed everything up. They thought them rates would be forever. Then you have all of these so-called masterclasses. Many are scammers taking thousands of dollars from folks who gave their kife savings up. This also applies to these dispatch services too. American people giving their company's information up to someone overseas and her in the usa. Signing POAs etc. Its crazy out here. If you want a real interview about how messed up it is. Let me know
