As a signal maintenance subcontractor, this is totally fine. It's much better to just give the railroad police a call and explain the situation than cause even a minor collision. It is very easy to repair gates and in even worst case scenarios we can drop by a workshop and get an entire new gate assembly and replace it in a couple hours. In 99% of cases, no charges are made against any parties involved.

Heres a safety tip that could save any of y’all’s lives!! Railroad crossing gates are actually built to bend like that. If I driver gets trapped between a crossing like this, or any gate-equipped crossing for that matter, they can free themselves by quickly, but carefully, driving into the gate. The gate won’t raise, but it will open outwards as you drive so you can escape the tracks to safety.

I'm glad the driver at least backed up, but it is concerning that they had all of that clear view with nothing in the view and STILL turned with the lights flashing, requiring the reversal to begin with. Not sure if turning it officially 'breaks' the gate, but they really need to put up cameras and start sending out $500 fines for people based on tag/video captures. They need a camera that activates only when the train is coming, which shouldn't be too hard to make. Grab the tag number and mail them a bill to their address on file with the tag office or the business name and using their truck number. The positive was that at least, if that truck is full, the train didn't hit it and send concrete all over the rails (probably would fill the gaps between the ties and road, requiring it to be chiseled out), ties on either side, road and train. It would have been a big mess.

He did the right thing by backing up. Yeah you can get a ticket for it so what. You also get one by stopping or continuing. If the lights are flashing and the gates lower completely, YOU SHOULD STOP. If you're in the middle of crossing, they say keep going but it's safer to back up if there's no one behind you. Some people are saying "he should have kept going" but that's not true. Because around 5-10 seconds after the lights start flashing and the gates lower completely it's dangerous to keep going unless you're almost at the end. Others say "he could have gone around the tracks" when once again, that's dangerous and illegal. He did the right thing. Just think, if YOU were in this situation, would you _really_ care more about the gate instead of your own life?

I could clearly see no trains comming.all of a sudden the arms started down lights flashing.

Yeah I just called the emergency number on those blue signs, and it was fixed in 1 hour! It really did mess up traffic for the 1 hourr it was broke!
He is one smart men for reversing so fast !
A full concrete truck and a train would have been a devastating collision..
Good Driver ! Alot of Truck Drivers sit there stupidly until the Train crashes into them.

Good advice. 👍
Good its better to break a gate then to be struck by and detail a train.

Of course spell check AI doesn’t know derail from detail🤪. We know what you meant.
We had a BNSF engineer come brief us during my CDL training and basically we were told they couldn’t care less about those bars so long as an accident was prevented from running through them
That's diesel Dave with his new concrete truck lol
Truck driver was like sorry I’m not ready to meet Jesus yet 😂😂. But all jokes aside he did the right thing by backing up I’m sure the company will pay code the repairs
I got caught in one of those type intersections myself in the 80’s . I was driving my 1957 Cadillac, a 62 series 4 door sedan. I thought I was going to have to back through the Arm. Then I saw that the tracks were on the other side of the 4 way intersection. Still scared me s**tless. 😬
At least he tried. It's better than what I expected from this video.
Better than the alternative. He did good in my opinion 😂
He did the absolute right thing, those gates are made to break away and that crossing is very wide. Smart driver.
I just talk to my buddy that works at the railroad, and he said that they're cutting so many jobs that they cannot keep up with maintenance nor safety anymore. Apparently the bosses have the authority to cut the jobs, regardless of the public.
Intelligent driver. He avoided any accidents. Railway crossings are dangerous. Luckily, we are removing then in Victoria ❤

Supposedly he missed a no right hand turn sign that was illuminated a few seconds before the signal lights activated.
Sometimes in life we have to make decisions that may cause minor damage but prevents a catastrophic outcome. Good decision truck driver.
Lol… this truck gave the train a u turn🤣🤣🤣🤣
Truck had plenty of time to go forward. He would have cleared both crossings.

And that kind of thinking is why people get hit by trains. Would he have made it if he barreled through both gates? Sure. Did he know that at the time? Maybe maybe not. Did he do the right thing? Absolutely 💯

It's illegal and dangerous to go around the gates and he could have gotten hit if he tried to do that. He did the right thing by just backing out and breaking the gate
Good thing you put that big circle there I don't think I'd have seen what was going on
Better than a free ride in the Choo choo😅
Um... Boss.... Ya... I Fuked up. 😂
It's ok, they are designed to fo that and be easily corrected. Trains smashing into trucks are not. Good thinking driver.
ВОДИТЕЛЬ КРАСАВЧИК ! . .ВО ВРЕМЯ МАШИНУ НАЗАД УБРАЛ СПАСАЯ СВОЮ ЖИЗНЬ .
Good he reacted, and backed up, they can fix that alot easier than a crash at the Crossing
This is classic conditions many people face during driving at road signals.
Thanks for the circle! I never would've seen it!
“Risk it for the biscuit” As a wise human being once said
It looks like that gate went down prematurely when the lights started flashing. All the other gates went down a few seconds later. The truck driver did the correct thing.
Better than the train taking a concrete truck.
Those gates can come down quickly. I stopped a school bus full of kids at a gate, looked, and opened my door. I was at a curved part of the track. Just started across the tracks, when I heard "ding, ding, ding", and the gate started down. I floored my gas, and could hear the gate scraping across my bus roof.
El chofer del Camión, hizo lo correcto
The cross arms are in spring loaded pivots specifically for this reason.
Driver was committed before lights & boom gate came into operation.
Hell yeah, fuck the gate. As long as he doesn’t decide to test his luck and the trains luck
What a Smart Trucker
When he kwew he was taking the crossing road with him backwards , he shouls stop and wait it is open again - there was/ is enough space left for the train to cross the road and do not have to damage the truck
The driver acted very responsible.
Fixing the gate is a whole lot cheaper than fixing the train
Finally at smart driver. He backed out of it. Instead of plowing on through. Great Job
Actually this is the city's fault. That fence came down too early. See the other fences? They did not come down right away there is supposed to be a small delay so traffic that might be on top can leave safely and that fence impeded safe crossing.
Loose guard arms are on pivots in there actually easy to put back on cuz they also have a breakaways
That driver has seen videos on Tiktok and knows this never ends well
Ну заплатит за ремонт шлакбаума зато сам жив остался и машину сохранил.
Shit I rather bend that guard rail a billion times then have a train collide with the truck. He did good job and a smart thing. If I saw a train if it was going slow prob go for it but the driver did a right thing
no surprise with the hours those drivers work. always ok to rip that cross bar down and avoid a collision.
The driver did the right thing!
At least he saved the truck n didn't do alot of damage to anything other than the crossing bar
Driver avoided a possible upsetting incident
Еще лучше было бы не поехать на красный сигнал. Но хорошо и то, что водитель избежал столкновения с поездом. Но не со шлагбаумом.
I was in my 18 approaching an R/R crossing I was on a 2 lane road about 50 yards from the crossing the arms were down lights blinking I was fully loaded I was off the throttle running about 45 mph applying the breaks i was slowed down to about 30 mph about 30 yards from the crossing when the arms went up and the lights went out. there was a 4 wheeler riding my ass. I could clearly see no trains comming.all of a sudden the arms started down lights flashing. I knew if I locked it down the car ridding my ass would crass in to me. so I masshed on it and destroyed the crossing arms .only damage I had was my right side big rear view mirror was busted and the brackets were bent.the 4 wheeler passed me and flipped me off. Go figure.
At least everyone were safe, the gate can be replaced.
The driver did the right thing. As soon as he made the right turn the railroad crossing gates are there and lowering.
Was like that concrete trucks getting an antenna
At least he lived and the truck isn't destroyed....plus the fact that concrete would have been everywhere!
I knocked down a gate skating, & I barely hit the thing. They are meant to come off if hit, so they don’t damage the mechanical part
They Simply Need To Rebuild Those Intersection
THE POINT IS: driver did not hear the bell NOR saw the blinking red lights!
He has nice choose! no crash.
With a massive intersection like that they should have the traffic lights on the circuit and the lights should all go red 15 seconds before the gates start flashing to avoid any problems. Red lights in all directions except for the ones to clear the tracks would mean no one in between the gates or trying to cross
That must've been a malfunction with the system, shouldn't have been so delayed. Good thing the driver backed up though
Better than the train taking the truck!
Definition of lesser of two evils
It's the people afterward who aren't paying attention. That can get scary.
I’m so used to hearing the boing sound effect
Weird how that 1 gate dropped way before any of the others.
Theater are light and made out of fiber glass. They are meant to bend and also have a break away pin.
la prudence et une sagesse. Bravo à ce chauffeur pour l'exemple.🙏
Он заезжал с боку, просто ему светофор не было видно полностью... Молодец!!!
as the driver turned the lights and sound warning went off . great control in whatever situation arises you will avoid each and every one .
Его штрафуют а лучше лишат прав человека за сбитый шлагбаум
luckily the red circle was there to guide me to the incident
Denver drivers are crazy
Honestly, he did the smartest thing and back off
