My great uncle has had a Travelall since it was brand new. When I went to New York to visit him and the rest of the family in 2015 the truck ran just like yours does and even is the same color as yours. I drove it down an icy road to the general store in the small town he lives in and I hit a tree coming down the hill and it took a chunk out of the tree but didn't even kink the bumper. I got out, wiped off the bark, and continued on to the store as if nothing happened😂

Had a 71 Travelall 1100 with all wheel drive. On Christmas eve in 1982 I measured 39 inches of snow in my back yard that came down overnight. I drove 50 miles to my mom's house and picked up 3 of my brothers, their wives and children and presents. It was still snowing and I had to go reflector pole to reflector pole for most of the run on the highway. One of them went by on the left and then we were going down hill real hard, I spun the wheel hard left and stood on it and we popped back up on the highway. Bought it for $1488, sold it 6 years later for $1500.

Irv Gordon bought a Volvo in 1966. He owned it until he died, in 2018. In between, he put 3.2 million miles on it.

My Dad owned a international in the early 1970s. I live in Tennessee and I don’t see many around here. Actually can’t remember when I saw one. Great trucks!

I own the Scout II that my wife and I bought new off the factory order form in April 1972. We have driven all over the Rocky Mountains, California mountains and deserts. It was a daily driver up to 2016 when I started a years long (now) rebuild. It has survived 3 teenage daughters and has logged over 300k miles . I’m getting ready to lift the body to start frame and running gear builds. The original color was Sundance Yellow. Repainted in 1989 to a ford forest green. I will get it back to Sundance yellow to match the existing interior color. I am enjoying your posts on U tube, it giving me the desire to keep working on my Scout and one day wheeling again. Oh , I was 28 years old when we got her, and I’m doing all the work myself! I’ve got to get this done soon, while I’m still partially mobile!

That's a beautiful truck and story to go with it. With rebuilds at 100k intervals that motor has hardly ever been broken in. What engine/trans is in it? I came from an IH family. My grandfather delivered mail in a rhd Scout 80 and had a 60s Travelall that would fit an aluminum row boat into it and still close the barn doors. My dad had wood cutting scout 80 with four chained up tires in western Massachusetts. When we moved to Southern Oregon he got a 76 Traveler 345 that I learned to drive stick on (easy with that much torque) then my first car was a 1980 Scout II 345 4 spd that I still have. Keep saving these machins and making these great videos!

I had a 1975 Scout, 6 cyl that I used for snow plowing & off roading! Toughest vehicle I ever had!

Haven't owned one ( yet ) , hoping one day I will . The only truck I owned that hit 400k was an 88 dakota , no overdrive , no ac , no cruise control , never rebuilt , cruised along with no problems ( even had it at 75 mph and still got just over 19 mpg ) , ended up having to sell it after having surgery ( couldn't drive it due to it being a standard cab ) , totally bummed me out )

Oh man that thing is awesome. This truck was made in an era where vehicles were made right by the right company. I enjoy hearing the stories behind them.

My first one was the KB 6s or a two speed with the I think four speed, might of been a five but thats been longer than your own age. I am sure it was a 41 year model but I have been wrong so many times. I drove the wheels off it, had those dayton rims... good and bad... and the only brake working was the emergency brake.. I hauled three cords of firewood on it every day to folks homes... I charged five dollars a cord for wood (old growth fir) plus five dollars for delivery... I would deliver it an then they paid me after I stacked it in their woodshed. One fellow said the load was light (it wasn't) so only offered me ten dollars for it after the work was done. I told him to keep the money and restacked it on my truck with him crying to just leave it as he would give me another five dollars... he was a wealthy man an I told him thanks but no thanks, you have given me a new insight to cheap. I took that load across the street to a guy who didn't have a lot of money, I pulled the dump lever an stacked it in his garage... he kept telling me he was not able to buy wood as he just didn't have the cash... I told him its free, I made that much off of his neighbor who offered me ten dollars for this short load... we remeasured it an it come out to almost three an a half cords. I sure did short cord my loads. See I worked for my dad in the woods and I set all the long butts off to the side and bucked them up when he was taking a load to the mill. I would stay after work and cut wood every night, six days a week, as I was fourteen and had to still live at home (another story for another time) I still love the fancy wrecker... orange an white colors... I have to have never seen one that classy. Dad paid me three dollars a day cause I lived at home an he fed me so it was fair to him.. the other two guys I outworked got twelve dollars and went home after a eight to maybe nine hour day. At the end of the year, I had more money in the bank than he did. this is back when wages were about thirty five hundred a year

I bought a 1970 intl truck in 1993 for $200… running!!! Drove it through highschool and sold it for $100 when i went to college. Times have changed. Edit… got 8mpg. Of course gas was still $1 gallon.

I appreciate Internationals! My first road going vehicle was a 1963 scout drove it all over Texas! I have a 1977 F150 4x4 it had 300 thousand mi on it when I bought it from a Towing company they used it for snow plowing in winter and a parts chaser in summers! I put another 135 thousand on it and the head gasket corroded away! I replaced it without any other work after another 10'000 mi the head gasket went again while on an offroad recovery mission! I am currently doing a frame swap to a 1989 F350 460 5spd 4x4 ! looking to another many thousand mi life! Keep it up I love the "Truck stories" & "Trucks you can own" also!

My father had a 78 scout 2 that was his work truck, plus going from CT to ME Moosehead lake every year for hunting traveling all the old log roads pulling boats out from the water during the summertime also he and I would go uptown for breakfast every weekend morning it was a habit we had and just leave not telling anyone hehe. That truck did have over 400k miles on it even finding a ball from a bearing during an oil change either trany or engine I don't remember. It was painted camo which was his business color when the town said he had to have something to signify his work vehicles after he refused to spend the money on a door magnet for his trucks he used to do home improvements and additions, to rebuilding old houses.

I had an 1999 Ford F150 with 330,000 miles on it. The engine was never rebuilt, automatic tranny replaced once. The only thing done to the truck other than replacing the tranny was keeping clean fluids in it and changing some ball joints and tie ends. Other than this, it was all original; even the leather seat covers. I too pulled an old 30’ Airstream Sovereign that my folks bought new in 1963. When they pulled the trailer, they and a 1962 International Travel All and it went all around this great nation to various Airstream Trailer Rallies. That was a great vehicle. Both vehicles are still on the road to this day. Unfortunately the trailer is no longer around since it caught fire two years ago. The new owner of the F150 just did a compression test on the engine and it is still in very good shape. The International I still have, but have retired it from trailer pulling duties since parts are hard to come by if I broke down on the road. It is driven once or twice a week and has 415,000 miles on it. It runs like a champ and the engine and 4sp manual transmission have never been touched other than new fluids. The key to the longevity is keep the fluids changed.

Sweet truck. IH made them tough and could build anything you needed.

I have a 71 crew cab 2wd that was used as a wrecker for the family business. It was originally a Wyoming power and light truck. We acquired it in 1975. It's been off the road since 2004 and is line for restoration. It has 525k miles on it.

Several time at their home if they couldn't find the dog---all they had to do was start my cousin's Jeep [where she/dog rode all the time] Without fail she would come a running. Worked every time too Not an International story I know

I bought a Chev Silverado new in 2007. The computer on the truck keeps track of how many gallons of gas have been used since it was new. This past year it hit 9999 gallons and stopped updating. I now have 167,000 miles on it. All that to say, I wonder how much gas that Travelette has gone thru in it's lifetime.

That is madness if the thing is driving well with no sign of wear if you pull out everything that rebuild it there is no guarantee that things will not go wrong are all of the parts used going to be as good as the original parts or last as long I have heard lots of tails of people having rebuilt trans or gearbox fitted only to find that something has broken on it.

I like the original color, kind of a brown mustard, can’t really pick up on the metallic flake in the video but I dig old paint hues on original old rigs. 👍
