TRS Tips: Retrofitting BMW E46 3 Series Headlights with Upgraded Mini H1 Bi-xenon Projectors

BI-Xenon Morimoto Mini H1 Retrofit Kit: www.theretrofitsource.com/bix...
We demonstrate the use of our Bi-xenon Mini H1 Stage III kit on a BMW E46.
******************************
Very little modification is needed to perform the installation. Only a little bit of trimming to the interior of the bulb holder and a small hole needed to be drilled in the stock reflector.
Performance and looks are vastly improved compared to stock with this setup installed.
We used our Morimoto Mini H1 6.0 Bi-xenon projectors, E46-R shrouds, 9006 Standalone Canbus harnesses, high beam splitters, the Morimoto 3Five AMP ballasts, and Morimoto XB H1 bulbs.

Those projectors are huge...I have them and my biggest problem is getting the beam pattern to be perfectly horizontal. I had to cut away half of the low beam reflector bowl and epoxy the projector in

The best option is to buy a new OEM unit and use those lenses. There are not a lot of companies that make full-headlight lens replacements.

Yes and no. In theory, you can find another projector that uses an H11 bulb type and use that... but performance is going to be lackluster. Performance projectors are made for D1S/D2S/D3S/D4S and H1 primarily.

Bulbs, electronics etc. used in any U.S. vehicle need be DOT approved. Case in point: BMW electrical fire in a garage; ( I believe these were LED tail light mods)... upstairs house burned too... Auto Insurance found the Non-DOT approved mod and disallowed claimant recovery.
