The way the actor delivers the line "who are you soldier" is so underrated. He conveys so much in the delivery. You know hes awed and in disbelief at seeing a soldier whom he believed could not be defeated be dispatched so easily. He realizes hes looking at the greatest warrior thats ever been.

@Martin Luther We don't have any such thing. We know that there would have been people with gigantism back then, and we do have one definite skeletal example. Although it's worth noting that, without modern medicine to deal with their gigantism, they'd probably live very short, miserable lives due to their runaway growth. And they'd probably be nearly crippled by adulthood. Indeed, the only definite subject we know of likely died when he was between the ages of 16-20. The only clear example we have that demonstrated the point is an ancient Roman with gigantism who would have been about 6'8, and he probably died of cardiovascular complications (again, at age 16-20), which probably would have been the fate of most people with gigantism before the advent of modern medicine. He was not the eight feet tall person you claim, nor have we found ancient remains of ANY eight feet tall people (and, if we did, they would not have made for effective soldiers. Again, they would have been cripples as adults. The bible is not a history book, and Goliath did not exist). Just as people in general were smaller back then, so were people with gigantism, it seems (there are two other examples of possible gigantism from both Ancient Egypt and Poland, but they're very incomplete so we can't be sure). So no, we haven't found "lots of skeletons" of people over 8 feet tall. Whoever told you that lied to you. And the fact that native Americans have stories about giants shouldn't be surprising. Giants are an extremely popular mythological creature. In fact, taking a person and making the larger in order to turn them into a monster is one of the most simple mythological creatures it's possible to imagine. Which is why such creatures are common to the mythology of many cultures.

Interestingly, in the Iliad, Agamemnon is taunted in a similar manner by Achilles. Eventually, after being inspired, he actually does get into the thick of the fighting, killing numerous Trojan soldiers. He became a true warrior king who fought his own battles.

@@bradc4277 I understood your point. It wasn’t customary for kings to fight battles. This was true even for Beowulf who had become king of a land that was not his due to him being a great warrior but ironically after being crowned was not permitted to fight in direct combat, when he did to fight Grendel’s mother and the dragon he ultimately died. But would have rather died a warrior hero than live as a cowardly king.

As a bachelor I saw this at the theatre and I was very impressed. When Achilles started running towards the giant I was expecting a long fight scene but the suddenesse with which Achilles ended the contest was both shocking and exhilarating. A really great action movie.

In addition to his skills and unusual style, Achilles was helped to win quickly by surprise: his giant opponent did not expect that someone would attack him from above - neither shield nor armor protected him. The sword went through him like a hot knife through butter.

Mostly I think (just by my humble and very average man observation, so correct me if im wrong), the word Epic is used more commonly in places like Ancient Greece. @@BlisterHiker This is even worse : You can see that the big guy didn't even lift his shield, attack after Achilles is inside his guard... Even an untrained guy would have had the reflex to proect himslef with hs shield. A slide 360° dodge (Don't know how to better say it in english) with the blade stabbed in the back of his opponent would have been as cinematographic, but a little less unrealistic and a lot less stupid to watch.

22 mil views in May 22! Love to see how this movie endures. Great sword and sandal. I love great war movies like this that let you somehow feel the mood of the armies on either side throughout the campaign.

The music in this movie fits perfect.Really epic. I only saw it like 30 times 🙂

"Imagine a king who fights his own battles, wouldnt that be a sight"-Achilles This line is so crucial since later on we see a prince/leader who commands his army and fights to protect that which he loves(hector). Which is so weird as Achilles seems as though he would respect hector as an embodiment of that which he taunts ameganemon to be, a king who fights his own battles. Not only does hector fight his own battles he fights every battle, not because he wants to or has a death wish. just to protect that which he loves. He fought for troy and all his people, he fought for paris even when he was in the wrong, he fought for helen and silently accepts her apology before going out to fight and eventually die to Achilles, and after all of achilles rage, he still comes to respect and weep over the killing of such a prime example of a man/prince. Even when hector is preparing to fight achilles in the case he looses, he tells his dad that he hopes he did everything right by him and honors him. Tells his brother exactly what he needed to hear to encourage him, told his wife where to go should the city fall to ameganemon. And as mentioned before him and helen have a silent conversation before he walks out

Yes, is awesome scene, KZread doesn't allow you to upload sex scenes, but it does allow you to upload scenes where a human being is killed with a sword explicitly. Sex is a good and healthy thing, instead killing people is the worst thing you can do in this life. The moral values of KZread are very strange. I would say they don't qualify as moral values.

Up there in my top 10 fight scenes of all time for sure. Despite its brevity!

What cast of leads. Great battle scenes, Achilles & Hectors duel is outstanding & the acting pretty good all round. Spartacus was the standard for years but this, along with Gladiator & Alexander brought the near - East history alive.

This movie might actually be my favorite War movie of all time. Its so bad ass and just all around an epic story.

Wow! This Troy Achilles is some impressive fella. Gotta be my second favourite Troy, after McClure.

@@PaladinThizz Yes, there were some kings that ran into the front lines of battle but it was much more common for the king to be protected as much as possible. Any army knew back then that once you lose your king, the war is over.

How Achilles has been remembered, purely by his weakness, is not a testament to his weakness itself; rather it is an irony of the testament to the fact that he was so mighty that the only part of him that could get hurt was his heel. Boagrius didn't even expect him to reach him. By the time he finally got his sword out of its sheathe he was dead. The difference between arrogance and confidence. Boagrius thought he was better. Achilles knew he was, but he still was prepared.

Honestly so many older movies that got a mediocre reception when they came out seem like masterpieces in retrospect. Compared to the absolute garbage being produced today we really can appreciate the craft and effort that went into the films back then. Waterworld is another that comes to mind -- panned by critics and did horrible box office, but now seems like a brilliantly crafted epic, thanks to it's incredible practical effects, unique story, and movie-star cast. None of which we see in modern movies anymore.

I agree. No cgi and special effects. No over the top martial arts crap. One of if not the best realistic looking choreographed fight scenes in cinema history. In my humble opinion anyways.

@@markball7028 completely agree! The fights all had real stakes and gravity. You never felt “there’s no way he could do that” which made it grounded and real. Now we have fights where a guy will take 20 punches to the face and still be standing but get dropped by a 90 pound woman kicking him once😂

I actually meet the actor once, his name is nathan jones. Super nice guy.

This was Brad Pitt at the peak of his career. Stellar performance.

I have read one version of the book , and there were lengthy descriptions about how no one wanted to take him on 1-1. Here this giant looked eager. Infact his friend was able to chase away many soldiers by simply wearing his armour 😅

There are two scenes that make my brain go *we should totally sit through 2.5h of Troy again!*

0:11 when their eyes met for the first time you can see Achilles look away first dismissively, then it cuts to Boagrius smiling bc in his mind Achilles was too scared to look directly at him. When in reality Achilles was probably thinking to himself "why tf am I wasting my time on this guy/you are not on my level", hence he didn't even bother making eye contact.

Trapezius' only weakness was his upper back. Somehow Achilles knew this.

Not his only weakness. He was big, therefore slow - and unarmoured. In a sword fight, his brute strength meant nothing in close combat, he stood zero chance. If we were to match similar sized swordsman in this day and age, I would bet money on the same result.

@@BlisterHiker Doesn’t matter how Achilles fought, the prophecy would not allow him to die until Hector died. That’s why there is some ridiculous scenes where he blocks an arrow strike by slinging his shield back on the beach invasion. But yeah, movie is entirely fantasy/fiction.

When he yells "is there no one else!" I would have pushed the soldier I hate the most forward.
