you could always just turn the wheel full lock to remove / install the battery

Does the throttle work while in pedal assist mode? I saw another reviewer show it only worked in PAS 0 and not on 1-5 while starting off
No mine worked in any peddle assist mode. But good, question, I'll incorporate this in future reviews
