TROUT FISHING AT PEJAR DAM - A Trophy Trout Fishery On The Rebound?

Спорт

Pejar Dam near Goulburn, in southern NSW, has had something of a boom-and-bust history as a trout fishery, but it's definitely on the rise again right now (not to mention fast emerging as a prime bass water!). Join me as I fish it for the first time in more than 25 years! Along the way I share some valuable tips and tactics for trout trolling and fly fishing.

back in the day saw some amazing mudeye hatches crawling over your waders, some massive browns. where I really felt the rhythm and sensitivity of casting a great sage flyrod at night.

I grew up in Goulburn and fished Pejar often. Where the water goes into the spill over at the Goulburn end of the lake I caught some 8 pounders. Trolling in a kayak with an electric motor was also effective with a paravane and a Tassie Devil. Worms were a good bait near the boat launch area. Fly fishing was usually hard work but rewarding and the Crookwell end was the more productive area for this style of fishing. Great memories! PS It has long been ok to use electric motors.

Nice video Steve. Fished Pejar many times back in the day with catching some great browns. Lost all of them one time when a huge water rat chewed through the keeper bag! Just curious what sort of electric outboard you are using? Cheers.

Nice one Steve, it has been some years since I have fished there. I was lure fishing from the shore and took a couple of nice browns in quite shallow water. Thanks for the video!

Yep, it's a tough fishery. There are some really good fish in there though. Just a lot of water between them. The bass can save a trip in the warmer months though.

Hi Steve, yrs ago the rainbows out of Pejar tasted like crap for some reason but last year I brought 2 home for the smoker and they were exellent. Do you know if they stocked it with browns as all I have heard about is rainbows and the odd Bass. Maybe you might like to fish Fitzroy again. I believe the carp may have taken over.. I think if you have a petrol motor on the rear you are required to put a plastic bag over the lower end to stop oil/grease getting into the water - similar rules to Googong dam near Quenbeyan

Yes, Pejar fish had a bad rep' as eaters. These three smoked up okay but the flesh colour was nothing like Eucumbene rainbows. Would love to see a link or print out for the Pejar boating regs -- hard to find!
