Hi Adam. Well remember that hiss from that auto choke on fathers '61 3.4 mod mk2. (1965 , l was 13 ) however , we never had to compete with the subzero temperatures of your climate ! Pretty certain , in the day wire wheels on an "S"type's were chrome and "curly hub" . Thanks Adam

Well executed and timely video! Spent yesterday afternoon trying to identify what appears to be an intermittent failure of the “electric carburetor” on my 1960 XK150. Not much information on these things. Thanks to you, I now know how the electrical circuit is intended to work. Would be super helpful to better understand the air and fuel circuits as well. Any additional you can provide would be much appreciated. You could easily corner the information market space on this topic with one or two more videos! Cheers!!

I've gone a different way and installed a kill switch in series with the live wire into the auxiliary carburettor. That way it functions as normal using the thermostat switch when on and can be turned off early to save fuel when not needed soon after starting with engine still cold. My old man did the same in 1963 when he got his Mark1.

First car I ever got involved with in a fixing way was my Dad's 1968 Daimler Sovereign, the badge engineered version of the 420. Basically an S-Type with a S1 XJ front end grafted on, with a fluted grille and a 4.2 engine. Had the same red interior trim, only difference being the dash roll top was leather rather than wood. The reason I mention it was that my Dad's car had both the column nounted 3 position ignition switch (which was the one that worked when he bought it) and also the dash-mounted ignition switch and starter button. Given it was one of the last before being replaced by the XJ, I suppose someone had retrofitted an earlier dash.... Great video as always, Adam.

Personally I like the look of the S Type.. For instance those little beaks above the head lights that aren't on the Mark 2 and that tapered rear end.. Brilliant dash on this car. Must have been refurbished.

How funny,i am having trouble with my 68 3.4 stype.mine works fine but it floods it allmost straight away and causes missfires and then i have to remove and dry the plugs off.runs great once warm.have set it to the recomnended factory setting off 2 full turns up have turned it down half a turn and will try again tomoz.not confident tho.love your channel.love to see more on these carb units.i think theyre more reliable than the aed generally.

We all have different definition of "daily driver". I guess it's more for going to the groceries store or a cafe once or twice a week, more than a one hour daily commute. In this case, it's a bit less of an issue I guess.

Yes it is low. As I said the tach reads a bit high every now and then. It is a bit low, around 550 checked with another gauge. Goes up to 650 when fully warm
