Troubleshooting a 2011 Itasca Suncruiser Leaking Roof...and other digresses

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

First off, thank you everyone for helping me and this channel reach an incredible milestone of 1000+ subscribers.....this is a big deal and I cannot believe even 5 people would watchn a video from me. Thank you.
This customer has had an on going roof leak on his 2011 Itasca Sucruisers for a few years now I guess. Luckily, this is a desert and there is little rain. A few dealers and repairmen have tried various repairs to no avail, and his friend recommend my company and me.
Join me in trying to figure out the problem, get some tips of what I've seen as issues, and hopefully it is fixed. I know it rained right afterward and I didn't see the leak return....but RV's happen to torment my soul.......

    Excellent AZ, need to mention your name, so if you did, I can’t remember😆. Anyhow, we think “YOU” for the excellent review and detail repairs you do and show. I can say I learn something on every video, and I think I know it all🤔. HaHaHa ...... Really enjoy your work ethics 👍. Question: When do we use Dicor lap sealant vs. the Proflex? Which one is better on a TPO roof? Thanks, you the man.......

  • @AZExpert

    @AZExpert

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thank you very much again for the high praise. Dicor self leveling sealant is used as an acrylic-based lap sealant that caps flanges and seams which is most commonly used on TPO and rubber roof seams and components. Proflex is a non self leveling sealant, rated for exterior use. It works more like silicone as a bead that should be tooled or spread with a finger. It is much less common on TPO or rubber roofs. I hope that helps. Generally, Proflex would not be used on a TPO or rubber roof RV. My main use of Proflex is on Winnebago fiberglass roof edges or as an adhesive. I hope that helps, and thank for watching!!

  • @mrmudstud5980

    @mrmudstud5980

    AZ Expert Thanks for the detailed explanation for usage. I will continue with Dicor sealant since I have the TPO surface. If I am in the glueing process on a exterior project then will consider Proflex 👍...... Got It now, always trying to stay on top of all ideas and methods.

    So I know you are not a fan of Eternabond, I love the stuff and this guy could have thrown a strip up there to slow down the water leak. While on a cross country trip we got a nasty leak in the sun dome over the shower. It was dripping into the tub so not a major mess, I simply opened the gray valve and away the water ran. 2 days later it stopped raining and I patched with Eternabond and Dicor self leveling. 6 years later the roadside repair is still holding!!! Cannot always do the expert work you do but easy repairs sometimes work!!

  • @AZExpert

    @AZExpert

    4 жыл бұрын

    Nothing better than a roof leak into the shower for sure! Yes, tape does work, but if a skylight is leaking the lens is cracked or the flange is loose to the roof. The lap sealant is only to re-direct water, it is not the primary seal. I'm glad it has held up all this time. Factories do not always do a good job putting those down. Thanks!

    James, I'm soon picking up my new-to-me 1999 Monaco Windsor (no slides!), and I'm sure there will be roof adventure involved. I was thinking about applying something like *ArmorPoxy ArmorRoof* sealant if I find out that there are not any big worn areas. Can you comment on your experiences in re-sealing where a rubber or plastic roof is wearing but not checked/damaged? If there's a better product, I'd like to know it. Opinions gratefully noted!

    When you reinstall a roof vent, do you put any sealant on the roof first then place the vent down on to the roof, then screw it down and finally put sealant over the vent edge and roof? What sealant do you use for this process? I have watched lots of your roof replacements and know you use several different sealants, but seam to miss witch ones you use at different locations. I have ProFlex in clear and white, Lexel white and clear and will order some Nuflex 311. I will be using these sealants on a Winnebago Filon material. Roof material was replaced last year by a shop that has NO craftmanship skills and I need to redo some of their sealants and reposition one vent so I can get the inside trim installed properly , they broke the corners when they replaced the screws. well enough rants if you could please tell me what sealants to use and where it would be greatly appreciated and please keep up the great videos. THANKS

    Winnebago uses black butyl putty tape but I do not like like it as it is very messy and requires compression which is difficult with 1/8" luan underlayment. Long story short, I use 100% silicone sealant either white or clear, it is a great adhesive and sealant and the nuflex will stick to it as it is silicone. I am sorry the roof did not turn out so well. I have bad days very often too. Thanks!/

    Silicone is used substaintially on motor homes and RVs. The silicone I used on the roof is not standard caulking but a thinner self leveling sealant so gaps and bubbles do not get trapped in and form voids for water to get into. It is NuFlex 311.
