    My 3235 movement started slowing down, and was at -3 sec/day being 4,5 years old (Bought December 2019). I purchased a timegrapher to check my watches, and discovered that the mentioned 3235 had an average amplitude in the 220s. I brought the watch to the AD where I purchased it, and they confirmed it was outside Rolex tolerances, and they are now servicing it for free as it is within the 5 year warranty. It will be interesting to see how it keeps time after the service, and whether they give a new "guarantee" on the service beyond the original 5 year warranty.. I will certainly ask

    the problem is some of these people that buy the watches with 32xx movements don't even wear them and put them in a safe and only wear occasionally, that's why many owners are not even aware of the issue.

    My friend works for Rolex as a watchmaker. The issue is real. It stems from too much lubricant used coming out of the factory. The tolerances for the new movement are extremely sensitive to over or under lubrication. My Pepsi had this issue. They serviced it and properly lubricated the movement and its been fine since.

    I was very close to picking up an Explorer 124270 until I heard about these issues with the new movement. Now I'm looking mainly at Explorers with the older 114270 ref. If I'm going to be spending some serious cheese then its got to be perfect. There seems to be enough credibility in these 32xx issues that I'm now looking for older models.

    I searched for this video as I’ve just bought a new Explorer 2 and it is running 6 seconds slow per day. I also own a 4 year old Datejust 41 which I took in for service earlier this year as it was running 8 seconds a day slow. It was deadly accurate when I bought it but it deteriorated. Very unhappy with the new Explorer 2 I’ll see how it goes for a few months but it will be going back also. My two 31 series Rolex watches are running within 2 secs per day and they are older watches. My two Tudor watches also perform much better. There is clearly a problem with 32 series movements in my personal experience, I think collectors will be coveting the 31 series watches in the future as they are rock solid.

    I've just serviced my first 3235 . I sourced a new barrell and mainspring assembly , as I read they can't be serviced? And low and behold the amplitude was down on what I would normally expect after a full service?I thought it was just me! I tried balance end shake adjustment, but not much improvement over pre service readings. Well that's progress I suppose.

    Very clear and concise summary of the situation 👌. I have two 32xx based watches. One is running slow (-6 s/d on average after a full wind) and has low amplitude (below 200º after 24h in all vertical positions) despite being unworn (safequeen for now). The other is within specs so far and is worn frequently since 2020. For comparison, I have a 31xx based watch running flawlessly since 2015. I wish Rolex had made different design decisions with their chronergy escapement (twin barrel vs. single barrel with low torque mainspring, not reduce the contact surfaces on pallet as it makes it for fragile, for example). Rolex need to come up with a permanent fix or redesign. To me it's a desing flaw. People are going back to the Rolex service centers on multiple occasions for the same watch in a short period of time. This is totally unaceptable.

    @kent-haraldjohansen4992 Thanks, it's 7 years old now. I'll start wearing it this year. I've read Rolex have found a fix. RSCs are getting a lot less comebacks with the 32xx problem. So, if my watch slows down beyond my tolerance, the RSC can fix it. I don't mind paying for a service on a 7 years old watch anyway. Oils have been sitting.

    I have several watches, just gonna mention a few. My indestructible and total Terminator is my IWC Aquatimer 2000 from 1999. Running an ETA2892, a beast (1-2 seconds per day). My new Omega Speedie with a 3861 is a little nightmare and is up for sale (3 times on guarantee sent to Switzerland, chronograph keeps on jumping badly). My Omega 9300 up for sale too but it keeps time very, very well (1 sec a day). So I would say that when you produce too many products problems occure...it is unfortunate but it happens to Porsche or Ferrari too.

    The worst thing about this whole situation is the mass scale cover by all the larger KZread channels who all know about this issue but are afraid to speak out in case they lose sponsorship. Rolex refuses to publicly acknowledge an issue that they appear unable to fix after after the 32xx has been on the market for 7 years. Widespread knowledge of this could single-handedly solve the ridiculous AD circus and waitlist games they have been cultivating for years for what is a mass produced product that is arguably overpriced at RRP. What you are doing here is actual digital journalism and you deserve a lot of respect for that!

    I had this issue. I took my 5 month old date just 36 to Rolex. The kept it for 3 weeks and told me that it just needed lubrication. I found that suspicious since the watch is so new. They told me it could be because you don’t know how long to watch was sitting. Still a very strange answer. When I got the watch back, it was hard to know what they have actually done to it. I suggested that perhaps I had bought a lemon. That didn’t go over well with them. I am certainly hoping that I do not have a lifetime of repair shop with this watch. Rolex needs to do something decisive.

    Grand Seiko 9SA5 calibre owners are also reporting accuracy issues. These are related to the newer high-beat movements. The simple answer probably lies in The Practical Watch Escapement by George Daniels. Audemars Piguet had a similar issue many years ago with a new escapement. Note, If Rolex is truly having this issue, there is no quick fix.

    I dont own any Rolex watch but I was considering ordering the titanium Yachtmaster… then checked about this issue to see if it had been resolved, which is not the case. This rather old issue with the 32XX makes me hesitant as I would buy the watch to wear and not as a financial investment but rather a pleasure investment like all of my other watches. I read the forums and it seems that it is a rather widespread issue. Now, I believe that most people will not check the watch timekeeping that much and even less the balance wheel amplitude. This may explain why complains have not reached huge proportions together with the fact that many people would simply say to the ones complaining: “if you want a more accurate watch then switch to quartz or a smart watch”, conveniently ignoring the +/- 2 seconds per day specification which is meant to be held for at least 5 years which is the period of guarantee…

  • @treiceasurirele2022

    @treiceasurirele2022

    Жыл бұрын

    Agreed, it's difficult to diagnose the problem early on without a timegrapher and even later you'd have to use an app to track accuracy regularly. If you wear the watch in rotation and have to set it every time you wear it you may never see the problem.

    Yes, we can only hope that the issue gets resolved soon but I imagine that Rolex is aware of it since 1 to 2 years after laughing the first 32XX calibres in 2015… Assuming they got the first return in 2017 it may be nearly 6 years… without any durable solution. Some people sent their 32XX watch for service twice well before the guarantee expired and basically decided to sell the watch away before it became a liability.

    @tizombie You may not be lucky, it’s too early to tell. You have a 2023 watch. It takes a year or 2 of continued wear for issues to show. Watches that have issues with low amplitude, and losing time, run perfect for the first year or so. Maybe even 2 years. Then the issues start happening. I have heard similar things about Tudor in house movements as well. Looking to sell my Tudor and find a used submariner date with 3135 movement. Either that, or just settle for a Sinn or something that uses an ETA/Sellita. In house stuff is not all it’s cracked up to be IMO.

    I would also speculate that Reporting of this issue would be low. As Rolex is a status symbol, it is human behaviour that the customer would try and justify the purchase, which is where comments such as, superior watch, higher quality, better finishimg and more accurate come from. Now that the consumer has parted with their money, they are less likely to admit the problem, or seek resolution from Rolex, because it exposes their own flawed due diligence on their purchase

    Nah, I'm guessing if they paid for it to perform a certain way and it didn't they would want it resolved. $10k and more is too much to pay for something that doesn't do what it says it will do. Now, I'm guessing the percentage of owners that also own a time grapher is low, so them knowing about the problem is another story.

  • @ALL-il1sw

    @@svrocko1 it's a psychology theory. Rolex's are hard to get. People are always justifying the price and hoops they have to jump through to get one (not everyone, but it's happening). Their arguments are, "well thats what you have to do for the best". So many people make this broad claim of superiority. So to an owner who has waited, and paid so much. Who has spent so much time talking up how superior the product is. Once purchased, and problems arises. There is now a reasonable chance that the owner will want to ignore the problem, because the problem proves the whole process they willingly went through, wrong. And that can be a hard pill to swallow to admit you over paid, for something over hyped. You would basically be admitting you got caught up in the hype, the marketing and your judgement isn't that great, (in this situation of course).

    When did Rolex ever make a watch that maintained a high level of accuracy for any amount of time after servicing? If we took a hundred Rolex Submariners that were serviced last year to the +-2 seconds I’d say 85-90% would’ve long been out of spec. I’ve owned them since the 90’s and I set mine every few weeks out of habit. It’s not just the new ones either. Over the past several years people have been buying Rolex’s with some preconceived misconceptions about them. I suppose it’s their marketing department who’s to blame for this. However if it gets people to bring in their watches every year for a $800 annual service it’ll benefit Rolex and their authorized service centers. Whatever you do don’t let the salesman talk you into buying another one because it’ll do it too. Just get in the habit of setting it every few weeks. When it gets worn out looking after a few years sell it and buy you a new one.

    I've owned my new Explorer 1 for around 4 months now. Woke up this morning and saw the watch was behind a whopping 5 seconds after sleeping for only 8 hours. I reset second hand and watched it keep time on my desk for a bit. I checked 30 minutes later and it's already off by 3 seconds which is out of the +2/-2 seconds a day standard. I will be phoning up the AD and seeing service options under the warranty, but from what I understand, all Rolex will do is open the case, oil it, and send it back to me. They won't be changing any parts out or diagnosing issues on the caliber to prevent future problems. If Rolex does not have a long term solution when I send my watch in, this will most likely be my final purchase from the brand. ADs should be warning customers about this issue before they spend 7K on a watch. Absolutely unacceptable from a brand like this.

  • @treiceasurirele2022

    @treiceasurirele2022

    11 ай бұрын

    I'm not a watchmaker but from what I've read recently on this topic it looks like there's not a direct correlation between how slow/fast a watch goes and amplitude. Normally movements incorporate compensation mechanisms so that the same timekeeping is maintained even at lower amplitudes e.g. a healthy Rolex movement will maintain the same accuracy at 300 and 200 degrees. Some watches run slow some run fast at low amplitudes and vice versa depending on many possible other factors affecting the movement. In this case it happens that the defect is causing them to run slow.

    It just goes to show you are overpaying for the name time accuracy was perfected when quartz came out and the simple fact of the matter is that a cheap 20 dollar quartz watch is more accurate than your Rolex the real issue here is that Rolex is no longer a tool to tell time but a flex instagram piece that lower middle class people buy to show that they made it what a joke. They are finding out now that Rolex is not worth the money you pay.
