    Thank you for your comment. Proper western riding is very similar to dressage. And if you have a good seat in English saddle you'll find Western is much easier actually. Let us know how it goes. Here's a playlist of adult riding lessons to give you a better idea what's going on. kzread.info/head/PL1JF_PZLhWBjjBTc3jLR67W3XVvVDT6D8&si=PyGkuT_U9_yg2r0N

    As a fellow adult beginner, these videos are so helpful. Horses are some that is very gate-kept as so many people get into it young and forget or don’t know what it is like to learn as an adult and even fewer know how to teach an adult

    Thank you so much for your comment. The quality of knowledge of the instructor really makes a difference, there's good ones out there and they can be hard to find. Hopefully you can find a good program that matches you. In the mean time please check out my Adult riding lesson playlist. kzread.info/head/PL1JF_PZLhWBjjBTc3jLR67W3XVvVDT6D8&si=Pr1uK_XqQGd8GgV5

    When teaching a newbie they always put you on a slow or older horse. The rider is a beginner and she is too far back much of the time. So the horse feels this and it knocks the horse of balance. I don't think the training cares about posting properly yet. Does not matter if the lessons take a week or a year. She's doing fine. The horse is forgiving of the few mistakes a new rider makes and all will be well. What do you expect her to put the girl on a fast barrel horse and lunge her... No. It's all good for starters.

    I've been riding for 2 months now and I have a question. Will I always be the one giving the horse the "rythm" when I trot (so constantly touching the horses sides on button number 2 with my heels) or as I get better I won't have to? Do professionals consantly give cues for their horses to trot? Or is it more to determine the speed of the trot or the length of the horses steps when you get better? So the lady in the video gives cues constantly. Do you always have to do that no matter how good you are? And do I give this with my heels, ankles or more with my whole lower leg (so more like a squez)?

  • @lonestarwoman

    @lonestarwoman

    Thank you for your question. And the answer is..... Depends on the horse. If a horse is a slower "leg on" horse like this one, you have to cue and then release and if the horse slows down, you add leg by squeezing with the top part of the inner calf. Now some horses are very forward and once you are balanced and your hands are soft, they will take very light cues. But those are the types of horses that are well trained and more of an interment level horse. Here's more videos with different types of horses to help you understand.kzread.info/head/PL1JF_PZLhWBhkaQ0KZvsFM4jXaPm0edwP&si=IUlsZ5JYg8qBRxOx
