Tropicfeel Review by Moxie Gent

So here at the Moxie Gent I am all about finding and promoting new up and coming brands. I admire those who walk the entrepreneur’s path. Because it’s not for the faint of heart. So kudos to those that revel in the grind and hustle to the top.
That being said, my commitment to you guys (the viewers) is to give an HONEST review on those brands. It’s so easy to pump up brands, overhype them and sell them for ridiculous prices . In fact that’s exactly the world we are living in today. And if that’s your thing, ok. But I promise to provide you with honest reviews and let you be the judge. Dude, this is your hard earned cash; might as well get the biggest bang for your BRAND buck. My reviews will highlight the good, the bad, and anything in between.
Today I am reviewing Tropic Feel Travel Shoes tropicfeel.com/
This new brand, hailing from Barcelona Spain claims to be the Ultimate All-in-One travel shoe. It was inspired by travelers and designed for travelers. You can walk, run, hike, swim in them.
So, for my recent trip to Africa, I bought my girlfriend and myself each a pair of these bad boys. Here is the thing, at 98 Euros about 112 USD you would expect a really good shoe. Honestly I like the shoes but I am not sure if they are worth the price.
Let’s talk about:
The Pros
1. Very comfy shoes.
2. Very breathable for hot days.
3. Moderate foot support
4. Their water filtration insoles were decent. I used them on a waterfall hike in Tanzania and, yeah they got rid of the water fairly quickly, but some sludge and rocks got stuck inside and I had to take off my shoes to get rid of them. So they can get wet but are best suited for minimal water exposure.
5. They dried up very quickly.
The Cons
1. Not the best quality. I only used them for a couple of excursions and already presented some signs of wear.
2. Price. I think the price to quality ratio is a bit off.
3. I used them in TROPICAL climate which logically I had to spray my ankles and legs with mosquito repellant to keep those pesky critters away. Unfortunately I noticed that the paint from the show tab came off because of the repellant. That really sucked and shows a poor production job. If you are going to use them in tropical weather its only logical that you will use mosquito repellant at some point in time.
4. Not good for hikes so not the best support.
In conclusion Moxies, I am not convinced that the Tropical Feel shoe is worth its price. I will continue to use the shoes this Spring and Summer and see how they hold up. I do congratulate the guys at Tropical Feel for grinding away and building their company. I think they have some kinks to work out and hopefully they will, but for now I am giving them a 7.5.
Tell me what’s your Ultimate Travel Shoe?

Thanks for the review which gave a lot of good information. Just the part regardig the mosquito repellent, I don't think we should blame it to easily on the shoes but also need to take a good look at the repellend. I don't know which repellent you have been using but if it contains has DEET .... this is not a harmless ingredient. I once had it in a plastic container and the repellent bottle leaked and it has damaged the plastic container, big time. I am not using it anymore. A good alternative is Thiamine, vitamin B1. It has not been scientifically proven, but this tip was given to me from a tropical doctor and pharmacist and it helps me for more than 25 years.

How does one these compare to mesh sketchers? Seems like you can get 3 sketchers for one of these! Any feedback please.

Update on Tropic Feel shoes. They apparently came out with the new version/ model which claims to be much better than the first. They claim that it's a better aqua shoe, better hiking, and comes from sustainable materials. I went on their website and found a really slick video introducing the new shoe through another Kickstarter campaign. Although I appreciate that they are working out the kinks (and there are quite a few from the first version) it comes at the consumers expense. The version I bought, is really sub par for a $100 USD price tag. The new version will cost about the same retail. I honestly can't recommend buying this shoe at the present time. It's definitely not worth the price point. I do hope that they are able to pull if off and deliver a good quality shoe at a fair price.

Hi do you say you can't recommend the new version or the old one? If you mean the old one why do mean with telling about the new version? I'm thinking about buying the new one but I'm not sure and your comment is confusing. But thanks for your review!

@@vnaku521 hey man sorry for the confusion. So the old version is not available anymore and the new version is their new kickstarter. The old version has many flaws and I am just worried that we the consumers will be financing several iterations until they get it right. I can't speak for the new version but judging by version 1 they still have a ways to go to really justify a 100 usd price tag. What type of shoe are you looking for? Be happy to recommend other shoes. :)

@@moxiegent7983 MoxieGent hi, thank you for your answer! I was just hyped about the video and stuff but then came back to reality after seeing some reviews and comments. I am looking for a replacement of my everyday life sneaker which are supportive on walking longer distances (bc sometimes I am walking like 10 km/7 miles in university) and have a good traction for example in the forest or on rainy days. waterproofness would be nice but I don't think I can expect that and it should look stylish. The price tag can be high if the shoes are durable for like 2-3 years. Do you know something wich fits?

@@vnaku521 i get you...all round good sneaker. Other than the usual suspect sneaker brands (Nike, Adidas etc) i love vans ultra range shoes. The are one of my most comfortable shoes and have good traction for light hikes. They aren't waterproof though. If that is a must, then Salomon shoes make great trail shoes aren't too dorky to be used a an all day sneaker that are waterproof. If waterproof isn't a deal breaker then check out the vans ultrarange. Good luck moxie :) and let men know what you went for.

@@moxiegent7983 @MoxieGent Hi , thanks for your advice! The vans ultra range sounds very interesting. What can you say about the durability of these shoes? how long did they hold until you replaced them? And walking for hours with these is completely comfortable? I think I'm gonna research a little bit about the ultra range shoes and then eventually buy them. I don't like salomon shoe bc of its appearance.

I bought three pairs of these shoes. They definitely aren’t hiking shoes like they claimed. But they are super comfortable and breathable. They are designed as the one stop travel shoe, so they aren’t perfect at anyone thing, but are a compromise for the lightweight traveller. I used them in Iceland for two weeks and they are are good. I like that they are made from recycled bottles etc. A good shoe. Would I say a great shoe? No. They would be perfect for back packing round Europe for example, but if it’s a trekking trip I’d look elsewhere!

Neat review, would be cool to see you wearing those with a couple different styles of pants, to me they look like they're only every going to look stylish with shorts. Not a single ad shows anyone wearing those with a regular pair of blue jeans.

I know these shoes are water resistant but how do they hold up in the rain? I am not doing water sports, I am just doing walks in the rain. Do these shoes keep my feet dry? I can't find this info anywhere

I got mine like two weeks ago, the are a better version for what i see. I’m commenting ad I see the video. The packing was better. Less ink. So it was carton color and a eco friendly and compostable plastic. They didn’t had the faux socks. The thing that had the color fading was different and better fabric material. I paid like $30 less.

Can you wear them without socks for a long time? Do you think the feet would smell with all the moisture build up when you go sockless?

you can but they start to chafe after awhile. I know that they have a newer version but after the first pair I owned I'm done with the brand. I'm trying to be more conscience of my purchases these days. I'm looking for quality and sustainability. Cheers

After using them for 2 months in Mallorca island i can say this product is totally overrated. Materials are weak, and after one month they started to break. The concept is cool, and the social media campaings are awesome, but they say that they sell high quality products and that's totally bullshit. Not worth the price. And while i was using the Canyons i bought a pair of Calas in the crowfounding campaing, and what a surprise when i got them... i had to pay import taxes!!! WTF!!! so total price was 89 euros plus 34,69 euros!!!! i got stolen!!! They don't mention in the campaing while you are buying that you can be charged for that, you can find that information in the FAQ of their website... and who reads that before buying? NO ONE. I'm never going to buy them again, and i don't recommed anyone to buy them for trekking and swimming, the durability is really poor.

'Tropicfeel' sounds like one of those Chinese brands with an awkward 'Englishy' name. These things are super cheaply built and I'm sure the kick start money went to some very nice vacations and many many nights out on the town for the company founders.....
