Hi, we are using mainly 3000-4000 size threadline outfits for most of this fishing. Usually 20lb braid, not that it's needed for fatties, but the reel and rod and line are very similar to what we use for offshore snapper soft plastic fishing. We use this slightly heavy gear as it handles the big lures much better. We do use Barra bait caster style outfits for some lures as well. Hope that helps
