These horses are called Cavalry Blacks. Either purebred Irish Draught horse (rarely) or more commonly Irish Draught Sport Horses which are one part Irish Draught and one part Thoroughbred. It's the Irish Draught which gives them that bulk. They're bred in Ireland and the best are chosen by the British Army. The Army looks for purebred Irish Draughts but because of their rarity they're quite expensive. The horses begin their careers at about age 4 and all going well, retire at 22ish. Then they go on to a well deserved retirement. A purebred Irish Draught can live until 35. Irish Draught Sport Horses are very popular for equestrian events. Zara Tindell has ridden them in international competitions. The Irish Draught is the National Horse of Ireland. Probably more than anyone wants to know.

Exactly; when other horses leave they desperately want to be with them (herd response) and that last one, all shiny, was sweating from either anxiety or heat or both. No wonder it was pawing so loudly.

These horses were absolutely gorgeous with their beautiful shiny coats. Totally Royal looking !

I'll never forget the Windsor Grey named, if I recall correctly, "San Marino" who was "helping' the stable cleaning crew muck out a stall at the Royal Mews. The horse was interested in the tourists and the caretaker - just a gorgeous, sweet horse. The stalls were immaculate with polished brass and lovely Celadon green tiles on the walls. The horses in the Mews have quite the life!!

@@co8008 the Royal Mews and Hyde Park Barracks are different places. The horses in the Royal Mews belong to the King. They aren't stuck in all day. They get rotated to Windsor They are exercised. Groomed. The place is fancy because it belonged to a Queen who was a great horse lover.

I can't help myself... the ones pulling the coach are Icon, Milford Haven, Meg, Echo, Tyrone, Newark and two whose names I can't remember. The brains in the family are saying the others are named Shadow and Knightsbridge. They are so beautiful, calm and in such great condition

Women in the British Army have to fulfill the same roles as the men. In the King's Troop RHA it means carrying ammunition boxes and loading guns. For the Cavalry it means everything from mucking out stalls in the morning, feeding the horses, polishing kit and tack, even acting as pit crew if not on ceremonial duty. Washing horses with warm soapy water then rinsing and grooming them. Even being Saddlers, Tailors and Farriers.

Aw, they certainly do go out to graze! I think people see them at Horse Guards and assume there are no green spaces! King Charles has land galore. Hope you are reassured.

What is interesting. Is that greys can be born black, bay, or chestnut. Then they "grey out to white over the next 2 years. Most "white" horses are 3 or older. True White is a lethal gene. A horse with pink skin and white coat is Albino. Some Perlinos (another gene similar to albinism) can look white as well, they have a very pale gold that is just barely noticeable next to a darker colored horse. Place them beside a grey (that has gone fully "white") and or an albino and you can see the difference between all three.

The areas that darker horses show as white, the nose, legs from hoof up etc Have the appearance of being white like the main body of a grey. In reality the greys have dark skin & the markings are white skin. These areas need protection from the sun. Cancer is possible from the sun exposure.

Actually Lethal White Syndrome is not the only true white gene there is. Dominant White genotypes have pure white coats with pink skin and dark eyes. They're rare, but they do exist, and are generally passed down by the Dam rather than the Sire.

@@vgil1278hopefully @conservative1952 sees your question. All I know is that the gene requires both parents to possess the gene as carriers. This produceds foals which die very young. It's something called Lethal White Foal Syndrome. A carrier I think is just born deaf.

Depending on geographic region, a horse carrier can also be referred to as a “horse van,” “horse float,” .”Horse trailers that huge would NEVER be called a box . Some would say these horsess must be incredibly special to be in such luxury. Goodness, man, people in America ~ (cowboys and English riders) are having a good laugh. ❤ Not coming at you. I live in the US & showed horses ( both western & English ) professionally for decades ; the horse trailers used , especially at national level breed shows ,are amazing ! Gooseneck trailers w/ living quarters for the owner/trainer are a home-away-from-home in style & amenities . Then there are trailers pulled by motorhomes - wow ! The trailers are the ultimate in comfort & safety for the horse & often as expensive as the " rig " pulling it ! 🐎💙

During the 1980's the troops and horses used to go on holiday to an old army barracks at Bransgore in Dorset. I met them on occasions while out exercising my New Forest stallion. Used to be highly entertaining. Lovely sight seeing those beautiful horses having the time of their life.

I counted 7 but never was very good at math. They are absolutley georgeous!

The Irish Draught is classified as an endangered maintained rare breed. I can go on about why if anyone cares. The Irish Draught Sport Horse which is a mix of Thoroughbred and Irish Draught not that rare. .There are about 2000 purebred Irish Draughts in the world but as I haven't counted them myself I could be wrong. That means there's about 500 registered. There is a breed recovery plan though. Gentle, calm, easy to work with, they like children and their gait is easy. There should be a game... what's that horse? There were quite a few in the Coronation Parade relatively speaking. There's at least one that's consistently at Horseguards who loves children. The Army would prefer purebred Irish Draughts instead of Irish Draught Sport horses but purebred Irish Draughts are much more expensive because they're rare and people can outbid the army.

These horses show that they have been on the pasture for some time , the black is faded . Horses that only live inside the stable don't fade , they stay black in the summer . Of course there are some blacks that don't fade , but true blacks mostly do .

The trooper's almost too small to put the halter on , bless.

Horse Transporter are made in Various forms. They are made small for 2 up to big 8-10 Horses. The large Show horse Transports have living quarters for long Shows.

Then the BBC were wrong. 😁 Horsemen don’t use the term “white”, as all supposedly “white” horses are born black or dark grey and turn lighter with age. Including the Lipizzaners.

Seven horses came off. And the last horse going on looked white to me, unless it’s the camera, lighting, or you all have a different classification of colors across the pond. 😉 magnificent horses!

gray horses usually start as black and turn white as they age. Besides this, the difference between gray horeses and white horses is skin color, white horses have pink skin while greys have dark skin. This one also most likely has a blaze which turns that patch of skin pink and also would make it white on a horse with a different color hence the pink around the muzzle but you can notice the dark skin around it's eyes, a bit on the muzzle and nether region. Also there's a bit of graying fur right above the boots and the legs under the boots are also probably darker in color. There are some true white horses but it's risky to breed them because it has posibility of it being fatal.

I’m sure they are trained to do so. As a short person it’s a real treat to have the horse bring its head up high so you can’t reach them. Very likely the horse was so impatient to get out of the box, he thought getting higher would be faster! I was glad to see her get it done & not let the horse win! (Horses are basically lazy so if they’re not made to do what you ask, they learn that they don’t have to do it!)

Horses are a little like kids. If you've ever tried to dress an excited toddler that doesn't want to cooperate then you will understand what it's like to bridle an impatient horse.

Beautiful simply Beautiful. We have an ID grey and the work that goes into keeping him in tip top condition and clean is hours and hours, hats off to these guys for keeping them looking magnificent and gleaming. Just a side note..... What do you mean 'Lady' guardsman can close up the lorry ramp too??? Tut tut 😅
