    Hey bud the cardboard piece is to hold brushes until you put armature back in. No need to pop springs.

    Very detailed video. Have to replace my prop shaft, waiting on parts. Brand new unit, I dropped it from knee high while lining up the motor for install on my boat and it bent the shaft. Brand new, never even been in water. I was so excited to get in on the boat I wasn't paying attention hit the release and down she went. You rock

    Thanks for the video... made job very easy. The only problem I had was trying to get the second seal out of the end cap. It has been in there 15 years. The rubber bushing had hardened to the side of the end cap making it impossible to get out. Had to order new end cap.

    That little cardboard ring you mentioned that isn't really necessary? It isn't needed to run, but it is an assembly aid to hold the brushes apart. As you insert the armature, the ring is big enough that the bearing goes through it, but as the armature goes through, it will push it forward and out of the way and the brushes then contact the armature. After that, it is no longer useful, but remains there, not causing any issues.

    Hello, I am at a loss as to where the video showing the cardboard ring... Also your last sentence seems to indicatethecardboard ringwill still be insidethe motorhousing, but will not cause any issue. Is that right?

  • @bowl830

    @bowl830

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes sir. That ring is just used to make it easier to assemble. From the factory that ring holds the brushes and when you push the shaft in it pushes the ring in and out of the way. I could have removed it but if I ever go back in I might use it to hold the brushes.

    This is on a 2017 Terrova 80 lb. link motor. When I turn the prop by hand it feels like it's grabbing. Is this normal or should the shaft turn freely? There is no fishing line on the shaft and the seal looks okay. Motor seemed to run good all year, noticed it when I brought it in for winter storage. Good video!

    Does it matter if the the prop seal is not flush. As you said. As I push mine in a few millimetres in. Will or would it make a difference?

  • @bowl830

    @bowl830

    Күн бұрын

    As long as it’s not hitting anything causing it to bind you should be fine. My model would only go slightly below flush before it bottomed out and wouldn’t go any further

    I took mine apart without marking it. When I used it for the first time it is running backwards. How do you find the original position of the housing and armature to correct the problem. Tks.

    Im gonna make diy trolling motor, and due to my research, brushless motors perfect for this duty yet they use brushed motors.

  • @bowl830

    @bowl830

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for commenting. I think that is on the horizon soon. A lot of drill and battery tool companies are almost all brushless. The only issue I have is brushes are easy and cheap to service. They’re also “wear” parts. They wear out but do almost no wear on the armature. Not sure how the brushless will do

    Other than the red and black wires that attaches to the brush plate, what would cause a motor to run backwards?

    @@bowl830 thanks. When disassembled the magnets were all busted up so we replaced 100% of the components. When looking at the magnet housing we looked for the factory mark and believe it or not there we two indentions so we guessed wrong I suppose. Keep up the good work. It saves us a lot of money.

  • @bowl830

    I’d check the prop first. Theres a pin that might not be seated. Take the prop off and turn it on. You will be able to see if the shaft is bent.

    The taper on the cover will tell you which way it goes. If after you put it together it runs backwards just turn it 180° and reassemble

    You use a lot of pop rivets. Where do you buy your rivets in bulk. Also what size do you normally use on your boat repairs.

  • @bowl830

    @bowl830

    I use 3/16” primarily cause that’s what size most the solid rivets are in a boat. I buy them by the pound here at a industrial supply. Thanks for watching
