Trivium Discuss Their Album, "The Sin and The Sentence"

In life, two options exist: death or growth. On their eighth full-length offering, "The Sin and The Sentence," Trivium choose the latter once again. In fact, the record represents an apotheosis of every element that at once defined the Florida group since its 1999 formation. Moments of malevolent melodicism give way to taut technical thrash, black metal expanse, punk spirit and heavy heart tightly threaded together by the musical union of the quartet-Matt Heafy [vocals, guitar], Corey Beaulieu [guitar], Paolo Gregoletto [bass] and Alex Bent [drums].

Honestly Alex is just awesome, he's so humble and so eager to learn like if you watch the documentary of the making of TSATS Alex doesn't question anything, he's always like "yeah sure man, I can try that" then someone will be like "wow man, that was epic" and he'll be like "thank you man, that means a lot", he's gonna be with Trivium for a long, long time, they all absolutely love having him in the band

Funny, when Paolo mentioned "it was an old song," new immediately he meant Rain - Baddest Trivium song, until tS&tS. Never thought I'd love Trivium much after Travis' departure. Thank you, Alex, for bringing Trivium percussions back to life!

Man it's so weird that such a huge band was held back by their old drummer and finally found the perfect one after being together for like more than 15 years....

I am the last person to give credit to the rhythm section. I'm a lead guitarist who wishes he could be a lead singer. I've always loved Paolo's work, but Alex made this band whole, and God-like...even on their old tracks, which I've heard Live since he came on board. All the difference in the world.

I reacted to SitS the way most people did. I've since gone back to it with understanding and found some gems. It's obviously not the "essential" Trivium, but what is? I mean, seriously, it's not so bad as "The Crusade" or anything.....

  • @locosychocrazy1

The Crusade isn't bad. I think it's actually a little better than Silence... It is more aggressive and has great riffs. I don't understand why people hate on that album so much.

  • @BucsFanO22

The Crusade does have some mediocre songs on it for sure. But more than half of the record is top tier Trivium in my opinion. Ignition, Detonation, Entrance, Unrepentant and To the Rats are some of the best songs they've made honestly. I wouldn't say it's their best album by any means, but it's definitely not their worst.

rusty ambrose Paolo seemed to help extensively alongside Matt with this record. He came up with song titles and lyrics for TSATS. It seemed like more of a collaborative effort rather than just one doing the majority of the work.

Chase Broughton which is the way it should be. Although it can work if it’s one guy doing most of the work sometimes (Opeth and Breaking Benjamin for example). Based on their interviews in the past,it’s a damn good thing that they’re working together on the albums and not leaning on one guy to write everything.
