Triumph Trident 660 First Ride and Review - More fun than I expected!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

On board the new Triumph Trident 660, Ridge Roamer reviews this all new motorcycle for 2021, how it compares to the Street Triple, and overall initial impressions. This will be a big contender in the middleweight sport standard segment for sure, offering tremendous value for the money, and tons of fun. Triumph's awesome three cylinder engine, build quality, fit and finish, at an amazing value.

This is the first review I've seen that nicely illustrates the acceleration. All the other reviews made it out to be boring compared to an mt07. At 35 this will be my first bike 😁

Turns out the fuel economy is pretty bad according to most owners they say it's getting mid 30s' mpg. After break in a guy claimed it could get in the 40's if you can stay off the throttle. I personally think that bike is sharp and would like it for a first bike. Most reviews say it would be a good bike to start on. Nice review and video.

I just bought one this Saturday. Mine is a 2022. I told them this is a mistake on the paperwork, but they said it is a 2022. Ok. I''ll take it then. Got free Triump backpack.

Honestly only thing that bothers me is waiting for an aftermarket exhaust to really hear that exhaust note ! If it sounds like a 675 Street Triple with an aftermarket exhaust think it will be great looking and awesome sounding!

I was in the same boat as you I was considering between the Triumph and the Ninja for my next bike. I'm not a new rider I've been riding for years but was looking for something budget friendly with some of the new tech and ABS brakes. As far as riding both bikes are very similar although the triumph has a bit more horse power and pep then the Ninja. You need to try both bikes before making a decision which one is more comfortable for you. I went with the Triumph in the end only because of the power range, modes and I didn't like that huge gas tank on the Kawasaki. You lean more forward on the Ninja I'm 6 foot tall and it felt kinda cramped more like a supersport. The seating position on the triumph is straighter and feels more natural at least for me. Another thing to factor is you get traction control and variable modes on the Triumph like "rain mode" which comes in handy. In the end both bikes are a good buy and you really can't go wrong with either. Good luck 👍

Also don't forget to price out insurance costs on both bikes you might be in for a surprise as a new rider.

Suspension on the Trident is good. Rear could use an upgrade, but I also saw after I rode that preload was on the lowest setting, so just an increase in preload will probably help a lot.

Nice review! However per the owners manual there is a break in period of 500 miles and it states no high revving and no full throttle starts. From 500-1000 miles engine can be revved higher for short periods. Please read the manual and lead by example on KZread.

  • @RidgeRoamer

Thank you! There are many views on how to properly break in an engine, and multiple studies that have shown breaking in an engine hard does not result in any discernable difference from breaking it in easily. If you look at resources from engine component manufacturers, they will tell you that lugging an engine is the worst thing you can do during break in (causes the highest stress on the internal components), that the most important thing is the initial heat cycles, and keeping the engine rpm's varied throughout the rev range. Not looking to start any argument, but manufacturer break in is pushing new owner to ride slowly, get used to their new motorcycle, let the tires scrub in, brakes, etc. I agree that holding RPM's at redline for long periods of time, especially with no load, is not a great idea, but the engine needs to be worked up front. Riding it at constant and low RPM's is actually worse. Besides, a new motorcycle review that never went over 4,000 rpm would be extremely boring...
