Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. 1 Month owners review.

I've owned the Tiger 900 GT Pro for just over 1 Month, and covered over 1000 miles.
Here is a quick review and thoughts on the Tiger after getting some use out of the bike.

I've had my Tiger GT Pro for about three months. Every motorcycle is a compromise in one way or another, but I really can't find much fault with my Tiger. I guess my only complaint is having to take it to the dealer to reset the service spanner. I'm letting the dealer do the service while it is still under warranty, but I plan to do my own service once the warranty ends. I don't feel the vibration that some owners talk about. I've ridden Harleys for the past 20 years--and I still have my Sportster--so I reckon I'm accustomed to a few vibes, lol. Take care, and ride safe.

The Tiger is great, and I'm absolutely loving mine. As regards the vibrations, I was just trying to be as honest as possible, even I don't think they are that bad but they are there. I've got a 4 year warranty with mine ( purchased the extra 2 years), so will be getting dealer services. I could do my own servicing, but I don't have the gear to do valves or correct brake bleeding. Also getting the dealer to do servicing means a test ride on a loan bike. Ride safe yourself, and keep enjoying the Tiger.

Hi… interesting and helpful review can you advise as to the make of the front fender extender you have fitted please 👍

  • @thetaleof2wheels.947

@briandocherty7242 The front fender extender is from Pyramid Plastics, it's the fender extender extra. Not cheap but gives excellent coverage, and doesn't require fixing to the front mudguard. It's held on by two shaped metal bars that fix onto the extender and the bottom two brake caliper mounts. Road crap only just makes it above the factory plastic sump guard, and I mean only just, if I had the aluminium sump guard on it wouldn't make it above that. I'll be doing some reviews on what I've fitted to the bike, and giving my thoughts on them. I'm doing video releases every two weeks, to keep things going over winter. So keep an eye out for them.

I picked up a 900 GT Pro about a month ago . I am going to swap out the exhaust for an Arrow slip-on b/c I hate the high pitched whistle of the stock exhaust. I have also ordered a custom seat from Corbin b/c the longest I can sit on the stock seat before I need to take a break is 1 1/2 hours.

@marklammers6117 I don't find the exhaust whistles at all, it's got more of a bark. The 800 Tiger used to have a distinct whistle. What you will be hearing is the induction noise, as the airbox is at the rear of the tank in-between your legs. If you take the seats off you can see the inspection panel for the air filter. I've found the seat very comfortable and can do about 3 hours before getting any numbness, using the heated function helps blood flow and relieves numbness, admittedly not useful in hot climates. The Tiger 900 so far is my favourite bike I've owned, quick and nimble without too much weight.

I would look at changing the front sprocket to a 17 tooth to reduce the rpms down by about 500 revs at the higher speeds to reduce some of the vibes. Plus you will get a little better fuel mileage out of it. Get a pyramid rear hugger for the back

@s2k442 The vibrations don't really bother me all that much, I was just being honest about them. I've just done a mini tour in Scotland, 800 miles in 3 days and the bike returned 54 mpg (UK), fully loaded 2 up, so can't complain about that at all. I've got the Pyramid shock shield rather than the hugger, which works really well at protecting the shock. I would recommend the Pyramid front fender extender extra as well, it's huge and works a treat.

what is the max width on the top box to not interfere with the givi panniers/ trekker boxes. Right side; no problem but left seems close with a v47 top box.

@ed.t.hansen6499 I've got the full 3 piece luggage from Triumph, which is basically Givi Trekker with different mounting spacings for Triumph's. The top box in this video is actually one of the panniers, the normal top box is 52 litres and can take 2 full face helmets. You can see the normal top box in the after Scotland video. I've had no clearance issues with the full luggage fitted, as the mounts are spaced to take into account the size of the boxes.

Thanks for sharing. I pick my GT Pro up next week. I wondered, how good are the stock Metzeler tyres?

@aaronmills7015 Bet you can't wait. I've got nearly 3000 miles on mine now, absolutely love the bike. The stock Metzler Tourance Next 2's that come on the bike are perfectly fine. Grip well in dry conditions and not too bad in the wet either, they are a pure road tyre though so any serious mud on the road and they do slip. I've had the tyres slip on mud strewn roads but no worse than any other road tyre. I'm quite happy on them for my style of riding. Tyres are a personal/riding style choice. All I can say is just try them, you may be like me and find them perfectly fine until they need replacing.

@@martinburns342 Can't stand Michelin tyres, had road 5's on a previous bike and hated them. Absolutely no confidence in the feel, almost as bad as Dunlop tyres. Yet everyone sang their praises! As I said tyres are a personal choice. It's just a matter of finding tyres that each individual person is happy with, and that you have confidence in. Personally the best tyres I've had have been Pirelli Angels that I had on the CBF1000F.

@zaphod139. The Aragon edition does look nice, probably sell out quick as well. The GT Pro is a great bike as I said, but does have a few niggles. Nothing that has ruined my enjoyment of the bike though. Definitely needs a good clean though and some wax on the paintwork. Next review will be after 1 year of ownership, unless there's a problem that is worth mentioning. Not much point in constantly doing reviews every few thousand miles. Time to just enjoy riding and getting some stunning scenery.

What's the reason(s) for going from the 1200 Scrambler to the Tiger 900?

  • @thetaleof2wheels.947

    @thetaleof2wheels.947

@juanmedrano9838 The 1200 Scrambler was an absolute blast to ride and did look fantastic. The reason I changed was given in the "change of scenery" video. Basically I'm a shorty and the 1200 XE is tall ( even lowered) and is top heavy with a full tank of fuel, made more noticeable on off camber roads. Also the Tiger is more suitable for touring and overall the better road bike. Don't get me wrong I absolutely loved the XE, but I'm much happier with the Tiger. I've already done more miles on the Tiger over a shorter period as well, which basically says it all really. You will always ride a bike more if you are more confident and comfortable on it.

thanks for the info. Yeah, I ride a 2018 Triumph Speedmaster and I'm interested in switching to the Tiger 900 also. Your videos answered many of my questions. Again thank-you @@thetaleof2wheels.947

@@juanmedrano9838 The Speedmaster is a beautiful bike, and the 1200 engine is a peach. Get a decent test ride on a Tiger, either the brand new model or 23 and earlier. Try on all roads including motorways, as the engine characteristics are different to the 1200. Like all bikes it's all down to personal taste, but I absolutely love mine. Quick enough to have fun but super nimble.

Great review but surprised you have not said anything about triumph in built sat nav the arrow directional thing that Bluetooth connects to the bike ,,,,what a load of rubbish tried twice now will not work so what's the point of having it on the bike .... What's your view ???

@grahamatkins8845. The Triumph connectivity module I also had on the Scrambler 1200 XE. You have to use the bike as a hub, so connect your phone and headset to the bike, but don't connect the phone and headset to each other. It also depends on your phone as well, my older phone wouldn't work but my new one does. You also have to use the Triumph app for navigation to work correctly. My take on the satnav is basically Triumph's own version of the "beeline Moto", which the beeline seems fairly popular. It will never be as good as a stand alone unit, or even Google maps etc, but as a guide type device it's pretty good. I have my phone mounted on the bars in an Ultimate add-ons case, so if needed I can run Google maps with an actual map to look at. I use the connectivity module mainly so I'm not constantly hammering my phone when needing directions, and only have to use my phone when absolutely necessary. I like the simplicity of it, and there's no maps to update like a stand alone or proper inbuilt nav unit. But I did know what to expect from having the module on the 1200 XE.

I use the triumph app on my phone. It comes with what three words so I use that it all starts well then I place my phone in my pocket then nothing ,,,,but I must say if you look at the bike dash the Bluetooth signal is still very strong when the phone is in my pocket so I don't really understand why it will not work I think I need to talk to triumph unless you can tell me where I am going wrong 😢 many thanks for your time and reply

@@grahamatkins8845 Do you keep your phone on the Triumph app? It's been a while since I had to use it, but if you turn the bike off it loses the connection and the nav stops. It might be worth going and asking the dealer, if they are helpful. I'm lucky as my local dealer is spot on, and the staff are always willing to help. Could be something as simple as the way you've got everything connected, iirc there's a set way of setting everything up properly. The problem with bike tech is it all has to fit in a smaller space than what car tech gets, so some things just aren't as good. At least we get better hp per ton though🤣. To be fair though, most connectivity systems on bikes aren't very good, and I've had the chance to try a few different ones. Hopefully your problem is a simple one to solve.
