Triumph Tiger 1200 - Valve Clearance & Cam Chain Timing
In this video, I show how to check and adjust valve clearance and also set cam chain timing on my 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 XRx motorcycle as part of my 32,000 km (20K mile) service.
In order to get access to the camshafts, you'll need to remove the body panels, fuel tank and air box. Check out my 16,000 km service video where I show how to remove and install these: • Triumph Tiger 1200 - F...
You might also need to drain the coolant and get the coolant hose out of the way. Check out my coolant change video in case you need to do that: • Triumph Tiger 1200 - C...
Also check out my spark plug change video which is also required as part of the 32,000 km service: • Triumph Tiger 1200 - S...
You'll also need to purchase the Triumph Service Kit (Part Number T3990016), which has all the new camshaft & crankshaft cover gaskets, o-rings, as well as new spark plugs, oil filter, air filter needed for a complete 32,000km service. You can purchase this from your Triumph dealer or online from eBay for example.

Super helpful as I work through valve clearance on my ‘15 Tiger Explorer. Thank You!
you're amazing, you're the only person who's made a video on how to do this that I've been able to find
I've been waiting for this one! These videos are a huge gift to Tiger owners, thank you.
What a fantastic detailed, thorough and sequential process. I’ve worked/built many Harley Davidson engines and while Triumph’s are a different beast your presentation was excellent and easily understood. Anyone familiar with twisting wrenches would find this extremely beneficial. Thanks for taking the time to video and share. (Just wish more service tech’s were as particular as you are) Great work👍🏻
Thank you very much for the excellently created video, incredibly well explained and with all the important technical details.😀
Thanks for posting this. First video in English if this task. Thanks for posting
Thanks for the walkthrough! I just did this on my tiger. HUGE help, especially giving the torque specs for all the bolts and the part number for the service kit.
Absolutely invaluable video!! It has been a huge help!
What an awesome video! Thank you!🙏
Skvělá práce, děkuji moc za inspiraci 👍Kde jste prosím objednal servisní sadu ? Děkuji za odpověď a přeji mnoho moto úspěchů ve vaší skvělé práci😉
What a great video! Super helpful
Great video, Easy! Well done.
Many thanks, I also do this on my 2018 XRT
Great video. Thanks for sharing with us. I have a question for you. When you were checking for TDC on cylinder 1, how did you know it was on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke? If you got it wrong, wouldn't the ignition timing be out 180 degrees? Thanks
You are amazing mate at what you do with the amazing tiols and setup you have. I live in SG too and I wonder if there is any chance I could swing by your place or maybe meet up or something? I ride a Triumph Trophy SE 1215 and I am all for DIYs myself too. Keep soaring with the amazing videos brother. Cheers.
Holy crap…. Me Taking it to castle power sports was a good idea…. The triumph is way too complicated….
Can you tell me what the tensioner tool and 0.6 nm is for? Thank you !
I have the same motorcycle, also in the same color! thank you for your videos!
Awesome video….I just performed my 20K service and everything went great but now I am getting gurgling noise after a ride. I have burped the radiator as described….any thoughts
