Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Honest Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Electric office chairs from Power Seats: powerseats.eu
This is my review of the newest 2022+ Triumph Tiger 1200 in the GT Pro version. Probably the hottest launch of the entire year in the adventure motorcycles category. I've ridden all big adventure motorcycles in the category except KTM and here, there's A LOT going on. This entirely new Tiger 1200 brings a ton of stuff to present and talk about. Enjoy!

    Great review(s) you have on this bike. My wife saw this bike on a dealership website when I was shopping, she told me that she wanted me to test ride this one before I did anything else. So I did this, and bought it, wow is it so easy to ride. People talk about vibrations and I haven't a clue what they're talking about. But, that could be I'm used to dirt bikes?

    Great review, thanks. The hill hold is activated by the front brake, and front and rear brakes are linked. Activating front brake also activates rear brake to a greater or lesser degree depending on speed etc.

    Thanks for the hint. I wonder why it didn't activate itself at that particular spot that I showed in the video. And yes, another good hint is about the linked brakes. I believe that Harley Pan America also incorporates this solution and in both it's unnoticeable when riding. Good stuff, Paul!

    One of the most comfortable bikes I’ve ever ridden. Steering light and easy. Power smooth and there’s plenty of it - but, I tested one today and was very disappointed. At 5000 rpm, the vibration was enough to deaden my fingers after 20 mins. Unfortunately, 5k is about 120-130kph, which is motorway speed. I will buy the 900 which didn’t exhibit this problem

Tried a Versys 1000 today, not sure what to think of it. It’s a bit ‘ vanilla‘ and the quick shifter is poor. Still have to try the GS - even though it’s ugly and expensive.

    @@pascallenoir5917 Hi Pascal. I didn’t really notice any significant vibration- certainly nothing more than my previous bike (1250GS TE). The BMW was noisier from the engine. The Triumph is more nimble, and despite a review timing the two bikes saying the BMW is faster, IMO the Triumph is significantly faster. My BMW was stolen from my drive in daylight with 12 feet tall electric gates which were broken. The bike was lifted out by an Asian gang - my daughter was assaulted by them. My neighbour has had 4 GS’s stolen in the last ten years. The Triumph is very comfortable and the finish is excellent. I am now at 2100 miles in 4 weeks. You’re an excellent reviewer. Thank you. The most important point for me is your comment on the windshield: triumph has totally screwed its design, obviously. As for the torque, how would you compare it to the BMW 1250 GS? A lot or not that much difference at lo revs? Thanks again!

  • @VToldsMotoShow

    @VToldsMotoShow

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks and as for torque or rather flexibility, you may feel that the GS does better but it may also be the gearing. Overall I'd say that even though the GS has the most Nm out of all bikes in the segment, the difference between it, Tiger 1200 and KTM 1290 SA is not something that should be taken into account as none of them struggles and at the same time the 3 of them are absolutely brilliant when it comes to taking off from higher gears and also riding at lower RPM. The windshield can thankfully be easily replaced, however, I'm not 100% that it was the only source of the issue with stuff getting into my helmet I recently rode the Rally version in an Explorer trim and the exact same thing was happening. The most likely reason is the windshield indeed but it would require some further tests with other windshields. Cheers!

    Hola, estupendo video!. En mi caso, no soy un piloto experto y solo conduzco en carretera de asfalto. No hago grandes viajes, solo alguna salida pequeña. Para el día a día tengo una moto pequeña de tipo cafe-racer. Acabo de perder una Multistrada V4S en un accidente, y me planteo comprar, o bien otra V4S de segunda mano, o bien una Triumph 1200 GT PRO. El precio bien equipadas se acerca mucho entra la Tiger nueva con una V4S de segunda mano, ya que la Ducati es bastante más cara. Mido 170 cm y utilizo en cualquiera de estas motos la opción de asiento más bajo. Valoro mucho la maniobrabilidad, facilidad de manejo y agilidad en la moto, también su seguridad. Tengo la impresión de que la Tiger es más manejable que la V4S, y que a pesar de pesar prácticamente lo mismo, la Tiger parece más ágil. La potencia no me preocupa porque ambas tienen de sobra. La protección aerodinámica sé que es mejor en la Ducati que en la Triumph. El sonido, creo que es mejor en la Tiger, ya que en mi anterior V4S la verdad que el sonido no me gustaba nada, suena a lata, supongo que por el euro5. Creo que la transmisión por cardan en la Tiger suena mejor y es más práctica y más suave que la transmisión por cadena de la Ducati. Desde tu opinión o consejo, y sabiendo mi altura, grado de experiencia y uso de la moto, ¿me recomendarías una Multistrada V4S completa de equipamiento de SEGUNDA MANO (unos 26000-27000 €), o una Triumph Tiger 1200 GT PRO NUEVA equipada con topcase, maletas y protecciones (25000 €)?. Tough one, tough one. I think I wouldn't be able to give you my answer but I'd likely be leaning towards the Triumph on the other hand. Only that "canyon" is making me hesitate as at the moment I understand that it may mean overall high speeds. Is that right? That would matter as at lower speeds, I'd like the Triumph more but if you're basically not slowing down, then S1000XR can be in its "INSANITY" mode at higher RPM and smoke the Triumph there. It's a lot of fun then and indeed could be a lot of fun and maybe more than on a Triumph.

    I think that's a valid point. It doesn't look heavy while in fact it's a big bike when you approach it. Still, I believe it's not overwhelming like some others can be (Africa Twin 1100 or BMW R1250GS Adventure). However, I haven't really spent time with the Explorer version of the Triumph. I've seen it right next to this one that I got and it didn't seem as larger at the first glance. I'm sure that the fuel tank goes somewhere but it's definitely not as obvious as in for example R1250GS vs R1250GS Adventure comparison.

    Thanks. I've heard from some riders that in the end of 2022 there was allegedly a software update that was supposed to fix it. Is that really a thing, I could not verify. One way of doing that would be asking any dealer directly. About the seat height, consider that seat height in Rally/GT comes due to taller suspension, and not a different location of the foot pegs. I actually doubt that the seats are any different on the two and would bet that they're not. This would mean that the knee angle on Rally/GT would be identical, just with the whole bike 'hanging' higher from the ground. Would be good to double-check with a dealer though.

    I don't understand why people make such a big problem from the fact that you have to pull the clutch in to start the bike. When I was learning how to operate vehicle, one of the first thing I was thought, was to pull the clutch in before you start the engine. Reason for that being it makes the start easier and it saves you in case you vehicle is in gear. I actually like the fact that Triumph does that. All vehicles should do that. Primary reason why one should leave car or motorcycle on gear is so it can't roll.... obviously, especially on hills.

  • @VToldsMotoShow

    @VToldsMotoShow

    Жыл бұрын

    I wouldn't say that pulling the clutch is a problem - I lived for 10 years with a bike that required that and I wouldn't complain about it at all. Actually, it was giving me certain confidence that everything is right and there are no surprises waiting for me. The real issue here with the new Tiger 1200 is that the display loads so long that after starting the bike and holding that clutch, you cannot be certain if it's in neutral or not. If you've got it on a center stand, I'm not sure if it cuts the engine with a gear engaged. When on a side stand - yes, then it should but is it 100% so quick not to make the bike jump forward if you immediately let the clutch go? I don't think so and of course I couldn't test it. I hope that this explanation makes more sense. I actually had it in a video but removed it as I thought it's too small of a point to take this much time in a longer video. But hell, I think it's a good topic in fact!

    I think that it might be. If you care about an engine more than agility in terms of handling, then yes. It's a tough question. Outside the city - definitely the Triumph but inside the city, it may be too hard for me to answer. Yamaha is super nimble and easy to handle while Triumph has that extra punch from the engine and much higher comfort levels. I think it would be down to what day it is and if one would want to get crazy with performance (Tiger) or smoothly play in traffic between cars (Tracer 9).

    Loosening the handlebar clamps and rolling the bar up and forward will sharpen up the initial steering input. Unfortunately this is a symptom of the assembly process at the dealership. The bikes handling is dictated by the technician that set it up. It looks like it’s been set for comfort. With the bars slightly higher they will be slightly less comfortable until you get used to it but the bike will handle better.

    That's an interesting thought. I wonder if there are any sort of guidelines or measurements when it comes to the assembly process. I think that I may visit Triumph dealership once more soon, so perhaps will get the chance to ask.

    @@VToldsMotoShow I had to readjust my bars after dropping the bike. I then aligned the marker on the bars as it should have been, now the bars are set higher and it is more responsive. Also Chris Birch talks about this in bike setup on Adventure Rider Radio Podcast. That is well worth a listen.

    Actually I agree with @Art that at higher RPM, Tiger 1200 vibrates more than BMW S1000XR - but note that I'm referring to the 2nd generation of S1000XR. Having ridden the 2nd generation not long ago, it's easier for me to compare this generation rather than the 1st one which allegedly could vibrate much more before BMW addressed the issue. I haven't found it extreme in the 1st gen anyway. So I'd say that still Tiger 1200 vibrates more overall at higher RPM.

    Yeah. I was riding the latest S1000 XR last Saturday and it didn't really vibrate much to be honest. The older ones had that problem. The biggest issue to me was the insanely lazy throttle response on that bike. I just found out that i could have switched to some "dynamic pro" mode to fix it, but it was driving me crazy the whole day 😂

    No worries, you can get a protection out there. The Rally version that's supposed to be better equipped has got it along with lower crash bars.

    I'm glad you like it. Is it better than a V-Strom? My answer would be: in every single area except for the engine sound. V-Strom's V2 1050 sounds superior to me and I'd choose it 10/10 times over Triumph's 3-cylinder inline engine's sound. I believe that it would be the only thing and still - it's totally subjective and up to one's personal taste.

    I'd say that in terms of performance, engine smoothness and likely also how differently its suspension can feel between the modes - it may be considered better. I do feel it's better in those areas than the current R1250GS. Add exhaust sound to that too.

    @@joaotino2252 Nothing against Portugal, but that was where the company sponsored motorcycle introduction was held. Many people think there is a tendency toward bias whenever a moto-journalist accepts financial remuneration (flights, hotels, meals) from a manufacturer.

    Yeah, that's correct I believe. No matter how 'true' you want to be, you cannot get rid of that feeling that somebody noticed you, invited, paid for your trip and therefore expects something in return. "Been there, done that." I hope it becomes trendy at some point to present real opinions not influenced by manufacturers and their sponsorships. Not a bad thing when it comes to reaching consumers but a bad thing when recommending products and services.
