Triumph T120, Dart Classic flyscreen WHAT THE OTHER REVIEWS DIDNT TELL YOU!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I fitted the Dart fly screen to the Triumph T120 Bonneville about 5 months ago. Its been put through its paces and then removed for inspection and video review. This is a popular choice for Bonneville owners and carries what i consider to be quite a hefty price tag, question is, does it live up to its reputation?
Please note this review relates only to the Dart flyscreen kit for the current Triumph T120, as supplied by Dart, observations and comments should not be implied to similar screen kits made by Dart for other motorcycle models.

    Just fitted the Pirannah flyscreen and to stop damage to headlamp brackets I covered the bracket contact point end with a strip of Shrinkwrap which stopped metal to metal contact. The screen has a couple of rough patches at the bottom but nothing as bad as Stuart found on hids Classic screen. I am very impressed with it.

    I have the Triumph screen and am very happy with it being of really good quality. It has the advantage of having four bolt through mounting points rather than the Dart's two.

    Thanks Stu for this review, ive had a dart screen on my 2018 Speedmaster for a month now , the fittings for it are on the fork stems which i think are much better quality than the one you have though it did cost a fair bit more, the effectivenes is as youve described, which means the rain will clear better on my helmet visor , i like it ,it really suits the bike and the price was what i could afford as opposed to aprox £430 for a triumph screen.

    I wanted a fly screen like i had on my VMAX, and geez, I couldn't believe how many different ones they make. Any for 28 bucks I got one that looks identical to the one you have but the brackets aren't as pointy. I realize those points that stick out are supposed to keep the wind from pushing it backwards, but I've had it up to about 85 and not a scooch of movement. So I'm happy. And for less than 30 bucks. Thanks Stuart.

    Thanks for the instructions. Put a generic version of this on my Bonnie - used the bicycle-frame-protector tape suggestion, with multiple layers, just to be on the safe side. Strangely enough, it didn't feature the same issue with the arm hitting headlight bracket as the Dart does, despite being a cheaper imitation...go figure. I appreciate the help on the windscreen and swapping out my levers. Thx!

    I've just fitted the Triumph touring screen. The price worked out only about £10 dearer than the Dart screen. They call it a touring screen but in reality its just a tall fly screen. Fitting is a bit more complicated that the dart as you need to remove the headlamp bolts so you can move the headlight far enough to get to the indicator bolts. When all is said and done it took me about 20-30 minutes to fit. A bit of masking tape and a pen made sure the headlight was put back exactly in the same position as it was. I went for the clear one as I think it suits my bike better. Will just have to see how much difference it makes on a ride now.

    Good video and review which was part of the decision making in what screen to fit . Have to say and possibly due to this review some modifications have since been made The screen edge was well finished . The tabs that rest on the headlamp support have been replaced by a moulded plastic support that is smooth and also helps adjust the angle of the screen . The two spacers you had to fit have been replaced by one metal spacer . After several weeks of use got to say it’s a great fit , good looking and makes a reasonable difference to the wind on the rider . As previously said the alterations made have made a better screen so thanks your review has helped make a good screen much better

    Hi Stuart. After reading your review I still went ahead and ordered the Dart classic fly screen for my T120 as it looks smart despite the fitting problems. Also your comments about wind protection were good. Surprise surprise today my new screen arrived without packing out washers and re-modeled brackets that miss catching the headlight brackets altogether! Furthermore the mold break below the Dart symbol is now finished to a much higher standard. Now they have understood the problems you encountered and made the modifications required (There are also new fitting instructions too) I think worth another try. I have a photo of the new bracket if you would like to see.

I might contact Dart in the future but i do have a backlog of stuff for review at the moment. I really like this fly screen. Unfortunately, I have pin led turn signal indicators and their profile is quite shallow. I am afraid the fly screen bracket would protrude too far and would obscure my turn signals. Nice look and function though.

    *Stuart Fillingham* As a kid growing up, I remember my Dad fitted an insect wind deflector at the front of the bonnet of the car. It was aprox: the same width and height as your Dart screen but shaped like the little blue and yellow Norton anti virus shield. It had a center ridge line with the "side wings" slightly concave. At speed, the airflow would be directed to either side of the vehicle, where insects were deflected away from the windscreen. The little Dart screen may achieve the same thing. Have you found your helmet visor cleaner as a result of fitting the screen?. If so, that's a plus...

  • @davidhamilton506

    @davidhamilton506

    6 жыл бұрын

    Ah, not to worry, the little screen reminded me of that insect deflector of so long ago. Worked a treat too. Of course it's shape was designed so that the " side wings" that I call them, were concaved to the outer edges, with the top edges curling slightly forward, as best as I remember them. It was this that created the slipstream that pushed the bugs to either side. Made of Perspex, they were available in a few colours, red, green, blue, orange or clear. Later, the Transport Department outlawed any sort of bolt/screw on additions of this nature. Remember the Chrome swan with it's Perspex wings that lit up at night from a little 5 watt globe in the base?. Looked the dog's stones they did. Even new vehicles soon saw the demise of their iconic bonnet/hood mascots, as the Transport lot claimed, that in an accident they'd be dislodged and become missiles to passing pedestrians. Even our chromed peak headlight accessory for our motorcycles, got the chop, or cop a defect notice. Here they claimed that if you hit someone, the edge of the chrome cowl would slice and dice them. Yeah, maybe after the front wheel supplied their worst in injuries. All jokes aside, it getting harder and harder for your average pensioner to make end meet here in Australia, so next year the wife and I decided we'll put the house to the market and move to the Philippines. The sale from the house will fund a rebuild and the sale from our four year old Nissan X-Trail will fund the furniture removal costs via shipping container. Even the Police are taking the joy out of a simple drive of a mere 50 kilometers to the shops, by using covert vehicles as speed cameras, with no signs set up to alert you the way a highly visible Police car will have placed sign a ways back saying "speed camera". It's not enough that our highways are steadily seeing an increase in average speed cameras, now they're into placing old cars, parked on the side of the road, that traps the unwary. It's bloody wrong. I've got no problem with those that exceed the posted limit by 20 or 30 km/h, but when I'm only over less than ten km/h (6k over), out in the "boonies" and cop a fine of $160.00, then it's time to up stakes and get the hell outta Dodge. Apologies for the long novella. I look forward to next year over there, as I can see a T120 Bonny with my name on it. Enjoy all your videos, particularly the tips on polishing. Keep 'em coming. Cheers mate...

    Thank you for watching, yes I know what you mean, but obtaining a copy right license for music on You tube can be very difficult and time consuming. There is a lot of high quality dramatic music available but very little up beat music of suitable quality. so I tend to just work with what I can find that I think might work that isn't already being used by everyone else. The Instructions supplied with my kit, make it very clear that the "original Triumph washer" be placed between the bolt head and the screen bracket, and that the two stainless steel washers be placed between the screen bracket and headlamp bracket. As I'm sure you will agree it would be wrong of me to suggest to viewers, that they should experiment with this configuration. To do so would possibly affect their statutory rights in the event of any claim, and may affect the warranty of the product. Should you find a suitable official remedy to the problem, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to revisit the review in order to point out any alterations DART has made.Thank you for your comment.
