In this episode I test out the triumph scrambler XC and give my first ride thoughts. I am short but was surprised at how this bike handles and how easy it is to move around, but it wasn't for me!

    Love the honesty, and it really does illuminate the degrees of opinion differences about bikes. I’ve had mine for about a month, and in a few days I’m taking it out for a 1,200 mile, two day ride. I’ve loved the bike, and find the cornering sharp with the right amount of confidence to lean in and throw the bike into the turn. The screen isn’t overbearing to me, and you can change the looks, so that again is personal preference. I’ve ridden it in 100 degree weather (35+ Celsius) and the pipes do get hot. Cooler weather, no problem, although I do ride with my knees out and not clutching the tank between them, so the more you ride like that the more you’d like the bike from that angle. De-catting it would also help. I love the bike, and can’t wait to ride it for the next 20 years 😁

    Very interesting thanks for sharing your thoughts, its a lovely bike but not quite for me. I went with the R9T Urban GS in the end and I love it just as much as you love your XC by the sounds of it all. Ride safe & thanks for coming along

    This bike suffered some changes lately. The 90 BHP are more than enough for the average rider, skills wise, even on motorway it can achieve notable speeds. And there are five riding modes. Plenty of torque, a nice rumble of the engine but still civilized. No faring but we can’t win them all, can we? It Is a capable refined bike. Very comfortable. Better than any R nine T and respective family and that goes for the seat comfort, as well. The looks are lovely and classy, like no other on the market, if you ask me. Full of technology, at least far better than most competition. The cat has been removed from the place where it was,initially located and is now at the rear end of the exhaust just behind the last aluminum heat protection and prior to the silencers. Can’t be possible that someone claims it is producing any relevant heat to the rider’s right leg…this are myths from past generations of this model, I presume. I watched some videos of the channel where you were riding an Urban GS on a trip to Italy and parts of bad tarmac where you struggled a lot to climb with the Urban GS, would be a piece of cake with the Triumph Scrambler XC. So, I find your description and riding impressions of the bike, somehow strange, maybe eccentric to be frank. If we compare only the specs of the two bikes above referred, clearly can take obvious conclusions. The Urban GS is a strong, harsh but very solid motorcycle with an engine like non in the category and significantly heavy compared to the real Scrambler here in evidence. The power on the Triumph is delivered smoothly and progressively. On the BMW, happens the opposite to this. Yes, the brut force and raw power that the R nine T resembles comes from an exercise of style by the Bavarian manufacturer in order to give you the taste how was the feeling of riding a bike on the fifties and sixties and that’s their merit. Is it a better ride? Can be. Each one must decide on that. Thank you for the video and ride safe✌️✌️

    Thankyou buddy you should try one out, finance is great on them & they have that Triumph style. Although your CB500X is one hell of a lovely bike with more character than this. Thanks for kind comments about the well done filming, I carried loads of kit around inc my metal tripod.... Haha new plastic/lightweight one has arrived now

    That was an unexpected pleasure for a Friday. Excellent review. I think the best thing about that scrambler is the sound it makes. It’s really not an option for me though, my legs are far too short. Looks like we’ll see you on your own BM urban soon. Thanks for another interesting vlog, best wishes.

    Cheers I have a few held back & it felt like a good day to treat you both to a double video today, I think I am way too short for it too. Got my foot down but had it been a more complicated place to stop there’s high chance I’d have dropped it on my ride, Let’s wait & see, working on a 2 week delay at the moment.     Some don't get it... Short shift it! Use the torque (get it on sport or road mode) - you don't don't have to spin it up & it sounds better short shifting it too. Its as stable as can be although the 21" front wheel likes a bit more counter steering inputs than a smaller diameter wheel. It banks through the sweepers very well (I don't commute - I'm a back roads guy). The TFT gauge is as simple as can be (coming from a cromag no less ;-) ), but you have to set-up your desired screens. Its a pretty short learning curve. Info is quick at hand. All bikes come stock quiet... Throw on a Zard and enjoy the music! Some like high pipes & some don't - yes they are hot in stop & go commuting (a down-pipe bike may be better for commuting?). A lot can be done with the exhaust to make a great sounding bike. I feel the seating position is superb. Just saying as a quick hop on ride does not do it justice in a review (I did not get it either in the first 25 miles). There is a lot to like in this bike. I traded in my 865 Scrambler and this bike is better in every way.

    Cheers, its a great bike & i'll try that again if I get the chance. I went for the R9T urban gs in the end, just because the XC was a bit too tall [and bland] for me personally. It looks amazing though, one very cool bike

    Hi Hipster, I’m surprised you didn’t fall in love with it. I rode the xe recently and thought it was as good a ride as my RNINET scrambler. Easier to manoeuvre at slower speeds and although a little less hp than the BMW it had plenty of beef when you opened it up. I also loved the high riding position. Great bit of waving to the prick in the BMW 😂

    Hey Jamie nice to see you, yes I was really surprised too but I just got off it feeling bored. The cooling fan really annoyed me too, it was only about 10°c for this video yet it never turned off. It was super easy to move around though, Speaking of your R9T if you find me on instagram 'itsanotherhipster' and look closer at my recent photo;) Yes he was a prick this dodgy matt black/half gloss black paintwork. He did appear infront of me again but I styled the wave out like I was stretching my hand. Think I got away with it.... see you soon

    I owned a 2011 Tiger 800xc for 10 yrs and it stalled a lot too, hopefully it's not the same problem and can be easily fixed!

    I hope so, I tested the BMW Gs310 and that did it too. I went with the urban GS in the end 👍

    You've missed the point of this bike. Even this lower XC is designed with easy off roading in mind. It is a dream in even quite challenging off roading situations. The reason it feels less planted than the street 900 or standard 1200 version is the 21 inch front wheel and softer suspension (you can stiffen it and put a louder exhaust on for more snarl). Watch Steve Kamrad's videos to understand why they built it with dual sport/adventure riding in mind: it is an absolute beast off-road with motoz tires on it. Decat and it's much less hot. Ride fast on sweeping roads in Scotland or California and you'll find it to be much more aggressive than you think.

    Haha yes its hard to tell, absolutely lovely bike but it just didn't have much of a buzz to it. I wish it rides how it looks, which is incredible! I did enjoy the keyless until I needed to do the steering lock or fill up the tank then it felt very pointless indeed.....

    Cheers yes 2-3 hours gave me so long to get to know it. Thanks the filtering was the most confident i'd done in a while. i got knocked off my Twin last time I filtered so I did edit out the awkward bits on this video. Catch you soon!

    First one of your videos I have watched. You did a great job and told it as you found it. I'm considering the Street Scrambler of XC. At 6'2" the height of the XC is fine for me but I'm surprised you didn't feel that it was much of an upgrade over your Street Twin but take your word for it. Maybe I should save some cash and get the Street Scrambler? The XC's front end instability issue was also reported by Views from the Man Cave in his XC review. That's concerning.

    Cheers I brought the BMW Urban G/S in the end, The Twin I spec'd out to look like a Street Scrambler but I was getting a bit tired of the small tank, chain drive and just wanted something a bit bigger. Happy with my R9T now got it for a great price off a guy off Ebay he was retiring so just needed it gone to a good home. Yes I saw he noticed that too, I think all Triumphs seem to just have a light front end which doesn't give much confidence. Glad you enjoyed my videos see you soon :)

    Hi Dan yes this was way before my youtube days. I enjoyed it but felt that it was very nervous at motorway speeds and was a bit jumpy, but the low speed work was incredible and I even loved the cooling noises just hearing the double-walled exhaust ticking down. The height was great too perfect to move around

    Loved that a really good review, your so right in a lot of what you said , I did enjoy the 20,000 development miles I did on that bike and it is a very well engineered bike but for me it has no soul no personality it’s definitely not in my top 5 favourite triumphs. 🙃🇬🇧🏍🇬🇧 keep up the good work looking forward to seeing your next love affair 😎👌🏍🇬🇧😍

    Cheers I felt exactly the same and i'm glad that came across from my review, I wanted to tell the truth and not appear bias - Even if I upset some people because its a Triumph and I didn't love it. I was excited to see your comment as I had a feeling you'd done many miles on this bike. Do you just ride 9-5 on those then or was it more of a constant road tour with feedback ect?

    @@AnotherHipster I think that was definitely your best review yet very well thought out and put together, a very big part of my job more so now I’m older and been rebuilt a few times is road mileage accumulation a normal day for me is 350 + miles depending on weather , on occasions 500 + most I’ve done in one day is 1158 miles never again lol 😂 mentally I want to do it forever my body says different but I am very lucky that I can truly say I love what I do for how ever long it lasts

    @@bikerbuddy3166 thankyou I really enjoyed making it and you learn alot about the bike even just sitting in traffic, that cooling fan really annoyed me never turned off once. 1158 miles wow I've done 518 in 1 day Applecross to Buxton the long way and that was stupid. We got to the hotel, they forgot about our late arrival & nobody was on night duty. I managed to find the night warden in her PJ's after 20 minutes and she let us in. I was seconds from pitching my tent on the grass & leaving before they opened in the morning

    It’s a great looking bike, for sure! At 5’2” I’d definitely have a rough time not being able to touch the ground... Maybe I’ll just mod my street twin to look like that Scrambler... I would KILL for that speedo/dash on the twin!

    I'm short too. I had to learn how to handle slowing to a stop and transition between left and right foot down. It became second nature in just a few practice sessions. I agree with turning a street twin or speed twin into a scrambler. I would love to see all the tech and these riding modes on a zippy little twin.

    Very welcome, these are Kevlar jeans made by Resurgence. In the UK the shop 'urban rider' sells them but I am sure you could find them in the USA. They have some great choices & you can't tell they are riding jeans :)

    Top Work fella, Great video this. Watched ever second! Very much aligned with what I was thinking. Nice looking bike but think for the style and market it should be a little more raw giving it somewhat more character.

I did some drone shots but just couldn't find anywhere to fit them in Yes I think your version will have the rumble and give a more connected feeling, this felt very plain despite the fact it looks like a boss bike. How high will your scrambler build be? Suspension looked tall!

    great video, when i went to triumph last year and they guy asked if i was interested in the scrambler but immediacy refused because it looked too tall for me . one thing you should inform us of, is your height so we can get a better sense.

    Cheers Andy i'll do some measurements so I can be more specific next time. I have a 30'' inseam and my max seat height is 850mm before suspension compress'. I nearly refused to leave the dealership for the ride but he filled me with confidence to just get rolling and I could handle it all with 1 foot down. First time i sat on a RE Himalayan I nearly dropped it at Plaza show so I always have that tense feeling anytime I see a tall seat

    Really like the way you show the bike, in my country we don’t see many bikes, so it is nice having you use a tripod, the camera also shows the real dimensions of the bike, some cameras don’t, which can be so annoying, I am 190cm and always thought a Truxthon would be nice, but after seeing it in the flesh it looked really tiny!!!! So not for me, will you test the Kawasaki z900rs? Or the Ducati hypermotard 950sp

    You are very welcome, no I think that’s it for test rides for me. I really love my BMW and just don’t think I could enjoy riding anything else. Saddlebags73 has a z900RS you should check his channel out for that, it’s a great bike! Ducati have always been really dismissive to me in the dealers & I don’t want to support their odd brand 😁

    Hi no I really couldn't feel much of a difference, on the motorway section it just pulls into the higher speeds without running out of puff. Whereas once i've done an overtake I found the 900 didn't have much more to give yet it felt like the 1200 could just keep raising the speed, For normal roads it was exactly the same low torque & power delivery on the 900 & 1200 even in Sport Mode. Hope that helps thanks :)

    I spent ages looking for a new bike, I was really interested in the Triumph Speed Twin and the BMW R Nine. In the end I went with a KTM Duke 790 🤣 I got a good deal so couldn't pass it up.

    Both great choices, I tested the Duke years ago just made me drive crazy all the time.... Not sure i'd still be alive if I brought it..... Its a beautiful bike though. One question do you hear the cooling fan all the time? That really annoyed me it was way to loud & keen to come on in traffic

    @@AnotherHipster I haven't noticed but then it's not been great weather when I've been out, got it end of March and been limited on ride time as got a 4 month old baby. It's one of the last 790 Dukes, so maybe tweaked it from the early models. Got a long ride in a week for Essex Air Ambulance in hopefully better weather, so I'll let you know.

I'm 23 so still with my parents, was meant to be the year i'd move out but as a Theatre Technician my accounts have been reset by Covid shutdown I need maybe 2-3 years to get back to normal. Yes do let me know but admittedly it was a hot day & the Duke isn't built for stop start traffic, it won't spoil the ride though its a great bike as you know

    @@AnotherHipster family are all good, thank you for asking and I'm pretty sure my baby is louder then my bike 😂 Ah thats crap mate, I think this thing has screwed up a lot of people's plans but hopefully things will get back on track for you. My old 690 Duke always cut out in hot weather, so hopefully this one will be better. You never know, if you get enough subscribers on this channel you might start making money from it.

    @@pbrooka9619 Probably, im sure a decibel meter would confirm things for you.... I hope so its a patchy summer going to be working or camping. Self employed so I can choose but now is not the time to say no to any gig. I was Poll clark yesterday 6am to 10:30pm but it'll pay for my new tyres & a few nights camping so comes and goes, I'm 85 subs away from turning on adverts but I won't turn them on until I hit big numbers per video. Its just not worth it its $2 per 1000 views without tax. So 1000 views gets about £1.20 then take tax off I end up with about £1 per 1000 views. Which is ok but not what this is about for me. I just share the fun I have & enjoy chatting to people for now :)

    I feel like the power on the Triumph is quicker to bite & peak out whereas the R9T has a bit of a longer build up but seems to pull forever. I really miss the keyless system though that is a game changer! Weight wise the R9T is very low because of the engine and this Triumph the weight was higher feeling lighter until it tips a bit but I felt they were pretty equal overall. both cool bikes too!

    Did you ride the whole review in rain mode???? It's pretty dull in rain mode, I don't even use that mode in the rain!

    Hi Leon, that is actually a great point I think yes I did. Maybe that was why I got a dull feeling from it, i've settled on a new bike now but thanks if I get the chance to ride again I will be sure to keep it in road or sport atleast

    Good review 👍, that’s the problem with these new bikes that have to meet the new Euro 5 emissions it makes them run even hotter than the old model did. If you’re looking for a new bike try and get one of the old Euro 4 models and decat it they run a lot cooler then.

    I'm picking up a new euro 5 one next Friday. The cat has been moved further back into the silencer to alleviate the problems with the heat. The pillion may disagree though 😀

    Not sure really, under 6ft with 32” Inseem. Not something I take into account I just know my Max seat height is about 850mm, I went with Urban Gs btw 😎

    Riding position is "it" for longer trips. Unstressed wrists and shoulders, ahhhh. Whichever bike you choose going forward J.

    Cheers Mark, the decision has been made and i'm excited to say I got my first ride on new bike today. I filmed it of course, working on a 2 week delay at the moment will help me out with trips coming up keeping the content flowing.     @@AnotherHipster don't tell me you got a BMW ? I've grown out of my 2019 Street Twin, like you mate, and started to blink an eye at the Scrambler XC 1200... After seeing this video, you almost had me doubting my choice. I think the bike needs a high front mud-guard, a high wind screen (Unit Garage's or the new Triumph stock part), hand guards, crash-bars, a tail-tidy, and a mandatory DE-CAT; after that, I'll get my self a modern-classic round-headlight tourer with a 21" front wheel able to tackle some byways, gravel-roads, and some ocasional harder off-road if it crosses my way... Nowadays you can even fit it with some decent rigid panniers (Unit Garage, for example) if you're taking on some longer touring rides; so at the end of the day, on my book, this adds to a sweet 1200cc HP parallel-twin >90Bhp

    @@luisribeiro4267 I think we are so similar mate and yes I can confirm i've got the BMW Urban G/S paid & delivered this morning. official Reveal coming in 2 weeks im delayed in my filming [whcih is a good thing] Think you just followed my instagram you can see it in the bushes of my recent photo..... Yes lots of good options you never know & as you say the XC needs many extras you may as well look at something that has it all. 10 miles on the BMW today it bangs & crackles like nothing i've heard before. But stick it in 3rd year and you hardly hear it. It is life changing feeling you would enjoy a test ride atleast on one

    Decent review but that bike does absolutely nothing for me. Keyless ignition...about as pointless as a leaf blower. By the way, didn't anyone tell you that BMW drivers own ALL the roads?

    Cheers Steven yes it didn't excite me either and that seems to be lots of the feedback I have received so far. Great minds eh.... Yes I've been on the BMW a bit more recently and there is a strange road ownership feeling that comes with the badge.... haha catch you soon

    @@jjnewman65 I have a 3000watt pet dryer, its great has a heater & the hose is really long so I only move it when I swap sides to the bike. Plus keeps my hands toasty on the colder times I wash it. I couldn't go without it
