Previous owner of a Triumph Street Twin, now I have a BMW Urban GS. I'm a massive fan of the history behind these motorbikes and I ride with a very relaxed pace, i'm not here to show off and really I just enjoy looking at the old parts of the town and getting out for day trips,
Have big plans for whenever we can leave the UK for a holiday and I hope to really get the ball rolling soon!
Thanks for tuning in, i'd personally like to thank 'Helmet Head' for his support since the earliest days on my channel, a true gent and consumer of pies

so you went from this to the RnineT urban wow both great bikes
I’ve had a uni roommate from Coventry and a coworker from London. I got to know them very well. YOU, sir, are the very very epitome of the British character!!! That’s a good thing!!
Its great to see airbag vests becoming more popular. i was torn between this and the Furygan vests. This Furygan Evolution has level 2 back protector as back up, covers the neck better and can be used on the outside of a jacket or under in the same way. Only downside to some would be its subscription based. Things can only get better with these safety items in years to come. Thanks for the review.
Great video! One of the best about this Dainese D - Air Smart Jacket on KZread! Very detailed and practical, Brilliant! Thanks very much! 👍
So the caption said XS, were you wearing a small or XS? I’m just curious if these run big/small loose/tight.
For the USB type C cable can you charge the vest with other cable???
What mobile network are you on as them charges sounded really expensive! I’m with 02 and lead to believe I can use 25gb at no extra cost
I'm with ID Mobile which uses Three's mobile network signal, enjoy your trip but double check the small print as Switzerland is not in the EU and often those deals are for EU countries only. Have fun anyways
when merging onto a motorway from the slip road its not your right of way and the traffic already on the motorway has right of way so you must either speed up or slow down or as you said stop and wait to join. same as UK.🙂
Nice cases but really too expensive.
Crazy I recognised your route to get currywurst from the route I will be doing in July this year! Staying in Stadtkyll for 3 nights - which is on the sign at like 15 mins. Great series so far.
Also a-crapo-vich😂
I’ve got the roadster- it’s worth the extra for the better suspension and other luxuries. Bloody fantastic.
Pochets useless. Anyone can open!!
Can't lock it! Do ok whie in the bike only
Out interest, what is it like in respect of neck ache and wind buffeting at speeds of around 60mph to 70mph?
hi Eddie, generally i've found that as long as the wind is smooth its pretty easy to sit there for a few hours theres no real strain on my neck. But if its windy & you are being buffeted around then its tough stuff for longer than an hour. Just got back from crossing Spain in 1 day in the strong winds that was not fun
Is there such thing as putting your bike on a train and starting your tour once you reach the Alps? Belgium and Northern France is sooo dull.
yes there's a train called the Urlaubs Express going from Düsseldorf to Verona that carries vechicles but the company running it has changed hands lots over the past few years and it won't run in 2024 either. Something I considered & then just biking back on yourself once you get to Verona Italy is totally an option when they run again. Used to be same one to Austria but that has stopped running now too :(
@@AnotherHipster Oh that's disappointing. I'd like to do Spain or Italy on a bike but it seems such a chore getting there. I actually did A level Italian and never been there!
Germany had kuntz AND ballacks in their team.
I can't be sure but the place where the tunnel was closed looks remarkably similar to the place where Harry Metcalfe ground to a halt in one of his KZread episodes. I think he could have been driving his Lotus Emira? Thoroughly enjoying this video series Jack and I feel like we're on a similar wavelength (pace of riding, places to see, avoiding motorways etc). Thanks for taking the time to upload it all. Andy
So there you are in the bushes with your sausage out and a burly man comes looking for you. Yeah, I'd be nervous too. 😮
Numbers too small to read while riding. Doesn't have an altimeter. Ok for finding a place. Compass icon is super tiny compared to Garmin. Buy a Garmin Zumo 396 for half the price for adv riding.
Good point! thanks. I got a Garmin Zumo XT Now, Much clearer & I just need to sort the charging situation. it's a whole new world!
What I like about the Tomtom rider 550 is its simple all I need, the Garmin have to mucho info. I don’t need complex and I don’t need to wade through lots of info I can get myself. Also the speed cams downloads you never need to pay for
thats very helpful, mine got full of water so now i have a garmin 😁
Do you still have it did you do any mod’s to it
yes still have the bike & no all the mod's are what you saw in the video. So luggage mounts, tank bag ring and sat nav holder thats it. It did come with engine bars, belly pan
@@AnotherHipster would you recommend going for a newer or older version
I see from the comments I'm not the only one binge watching. Well done mate.
You are very welcome, I am glad you enjoyed it 😎
What’s the seat height ? Inside leg?
this seat hight is 850mm & my inside leg is 30''
Just finished watching the entire series again. I appreciate your not a "KZreadr" and saving for a deposit on a house but I look forward to the next series, hopefully Morocco. 👍
That really is touching, thankyou. Yes it is in the works I have the time off booked and am just sorting out all my gear & a new phone to give it a go there soon 😎 My iPhone and my Sat nav got full of rain after meeting helmet head for his camping weekend so its a good excuse to upgrade some kit 😁 hope you are well
A dam wall but no water to be seen ? Strange yes 🤪
Those slow cars are a pain .
certainly are 😁
Hi Jack , Loving the adventure to Athens , I am now binge watching, are you always a solo rider or could I join one of your trips please? Regards from Northumberland. I have a test ride booked on Honda translap in the next couple of weeks & if ok hopefully they will give me a good deal on my KTM as part ex. 👍🇬🇧
Thats very kind thankyou, I hope you are enjoying making your way through them. I'm not always solo but i'm now full time employed so getting time off is less easy than before. i want to come up to Northumberland area though. Do you enjoy camping? Would be nice to meet yes
@@AnotherHipster Yes actually I have a 5 man tent, 2 man & a new touring caravan so as you can see I love being out & about either fighting midges in applecross Scotland or a summer trip down to Devon. If u need a stop off in Northumberland let me know it’s free at mine & secure bike storage. Camping would be good also. 👍😀
Oh yes you don’t want to be doing this euro trip on a Harley. You have made a good choice. I am going to sell my KTM to do this trip on a Honda trans lap .
I think thats a great choice, KTM are also cool but their naked bikes just made me very angry & fast all the time. I see mostly BMW GS & Honda A-T on these trips 👀
Love the little snippets of humour dropped in now & again 🤣👍
I do try 😁
Hi Jack, I am wanting to take my bike over the Stelvio pass hopefully next year but just one question please, do you use an electronic paying device for the tolls ? Thanks again for great adventures & narration. Regards form Northumberland. 👍
That sounds epic! I didn't realise how late in the year those passes open up... No I get a paper ticket & pay at the other end. but its a bit of a faff, might look into electric for next time
Dogging 👍🤣
probably likely 😁
Sometimes you sound like Julian Clary.😆
Haha, another name for the list 😁 Atleast its recognisable I suppose, hope you are enjoying the ride
Great videos with good narration. Thanks. Do you have heated grips on this bike? 👍🏆
thanks I try and find the balance between quiet & chat. Yes this has the factory fitted heated grips :D
gorgeous jacket.
thanks its very comfy, im super proud of it. always makes me feel cool!
Just bought this vest in the USA. In the instructions it says to connect the wires ending in small pull loops leading to the vest's computer. Is this not required in the UK/ Anyone else that had to go through this? About to tackle this in the daylight, since it took a few hours to charge up.
sorry for the slow reply, no that wasn't required for me it was all pre-done and I didn't have to do anything except charge it up, hope you managed to sort it?
I just had to do this in Germany. Except it didn't tell me this anywhere. I kept Googling until I found a website with these instructions. It's charging for me now so I still haven't registered it. My Laptop can't detect it so I'm hoping after a full charge it works. Very poor impression so far.
For someone who complains all the time about everything and in particular about the way people drive in Greece you have done numerous traffic violations ! Next time you start judging other people just look at yourself in a mirror and cry ! Grow up you are so joung to be such a nagger !! Enjoy your ride and be more open minded.
Hi. Only found your channel the other day (23rd Feb ‘24) so a bit late to the party! Worth waiting for though! 👍 I took early retirement and set off in June 2019 on my GSA1200 to relocate (more or less permanently) to Athens. Ferry from Bari to Patras was good and, about 2 yrs later came back using the Patras to Ancona ferry. Ref your comments about Italian drivers, I found the standard of driving slowly improved from England, to France and peaked in competence, professionalism and courtesy somewhere around the Southern German border. Went tits up in Italy and just went down hill in Greece. It’s the “don’t give a shit Latin/Mediteranean temperament” which isn’t just confined to motoring! 😏. It’s why I bought my bike back to the U.K….before some knob wiped me out! Great videos…..more please!
haha that's brilliant, what a cool thing to do and it seems like you made the right choice coming back with the bike as there's plenty of idiots everywhere. Thanks for catching up on my videos, I hope to make more soon. Do you still like your GSA? I keep seeing the 1300 and there is something very cool about it
Thanks for the videos. Did you book hotels each day up front a little or just on the day? Thanks
Sorry your comment was hidden for some reason, I booked the first night and the ferries while I was out there. but otherwise i get to around 4pm each day, look at my destination for the evening and then find a hotel nearby it/on the way using google maps. I was all off peak travel so it was always easy to find a place for around £35 a night
Hello, I'm watching your videos. nice adventure I wanted to ask you about your opinion about the Atlas suitcases. I'm considering buying them, but I wanted to know how they behave in the rain, and in general pros and cons. thank you
thanks glad you are enjoying the videos. The Atlas pannier boxes are absolutely brilliant, i've had no issues with them and never had a leak even when my sat nav did get filled with water! The only thing i don't like is there isn't a way to leave them unlocked but still shut. But they look great & the mounting has been rock solid. I flipped my R9T over a few months ago on a dirt track, pannier ripped off but the frame hasn't bent & i'm awaiting a replacement clamp. No dents just a small scratch. I'd reccomend them, got mine from Pier City Custom in the UK they are lovely chaps👍
@@AnotherHipster❤
You must have heard before you are a Joe Lycett soundalike? Anyway, will watch your journey unfold. Looks good
Haha I am indeed, it's a great sideline...... cheers for your support I hope you enjoy my journey. had fun making it & it's nice that other people are enjoying it too
Popped up on my feed. Go on then. I’m invested
How many miles have you racked up on the BWM and how did you find it on tour? Asking as a R9T owner.
I've done about 16,000 miles in the past year & a bit. Mostly this trip + another one to France & Spain. I find it really comfy and it's the perfect size for me tbh. Mine is mostly stock but i've swapped to BMW single seat + rack and then unit garage Panniers. I tend to avoid motorways & that's the only time i wish the screen was bigger. but i've been through rain & cold plus incredibly hot weather and it performs all the same, just a lovely bike! where are you thinking of going?
@@AnotherHipster thanks for the feedback, the motorway part is my only concern for them big days crunching mile. The potential trip is Spain next year or a full month trip to Nordic countries, across the Baltic Sea, down to Greece and back. Just debating if I should think about upgrading into a GS, which I wouldn’t enjoy as much on the daily.
@@st8241 that sounds really cool, yes motorways are boring in general but that was the only time I felt like maybe i'd made the wrong choice. the rest of the time just riding around the B roads and stopping off at sights it was really helpful having something easier to manage. I am also considering the 1250 Rally but I just can't let go of my lovely R9T. Your trips sound epic either way!
@@AnotherHipster Mr Lycett ... have you stopped making vids? 🤣
Nice review but, in my opinion... biggest pile of crap Ive ever seen. White bike with red ? seat and gold rims, really !!! No gear indicator, No fuel gauge no rear mud guard, wtf !!! And front mudguards ??? looks like some pisshead just stuck em on willy nilly UGLY motherf****. I have a street twin ( last 4 vyears from new ) may be tempted by something else in the near future, but I wouldnt even do a straight swap for that. However .... BMW 1250RS, now that looks something to test ride for sure and 13k ish starting price. Wow ! Otherwise something like Honda NT1100 or simlar ... No offence I hope, each to their own, just me thinking out loud :)
Couldn't find 38 ? So 37 to 39 ...🤷♀
yes sadly I flew my drone where I wasn't meant to (apparently) and I had loads of hassle from 2 people threatening to report me & they knew the exact area. So accidentally deleted it instead of hiding it temporary & now its gone. I'm just as annoyed as you are but it was mainly just me taking a day off & doing slow gravel stuff around a deserted area
Pésimo gusto, esas maletas son para gs y no le van a esa moto, destruyes el concepto , mejor cámbiala por una gs🤦♂️
I’ve never paid the swiss / Austrian vignettes, I just set my sat nav to avoid motorways. It’s worked for the last 17 years of motorcycle touring😂
good to know thanks, I thought it was odd. I wad going for better safe than sorry but this helps for this summer thanks!
Those chips man ❤
they were worth going all the way there for. 2nd best was my German chips they are also brillianttt
Enjoyed that. Love the funny and odd things you encounter... and great scenery as well :)
Cheers, its always a blast on these trips and its always me who gets the weirdos :D
