Nicely done. I hd a remote filter on my T140 when I’m bought it. Someone had strapped it securely to the down pipe of the frame next to where you fitted yours. I couldn’t get the filter off for love nor money and eventually took the whole thing off and fitted a paper filter instead of the gauze one. I’m gonna have another look at adding a remote as well in same position as yours.. thanks for the vid!

TBH I don't think you'd need an external if you've already replaced the gauze with a paper element. People tend to really over tighten oil filters as they fear they might undo themselves, but even worse is not smearing a bit of oil on the seal when installing as they can stick themselves to the housing and can be a real bugger to get off. @@bodganeering you’re probably right, could be a bit overkill, my mate who has been building these for years says it doesn’t really need it if I have a decent paper filter. Anyway, it’s off road over winter as I have a bunch of other jobs to do before the season of joy (spring!) kicks in!

That bracket is alright for a test piece it would want to be heavier than that piece of thin because the first stuck filter which most do even hand tight that you go to take off it will bend and twist it out of shape Good look with the job...

For anyone watching that misunderstands about the flow direction it absolutely matters which way you pipe the filter housing itself, the small holes around the outside are the inlet, the threaded part/ inside hole is the outlet. Some filter have a non return valve/ anti drain off valve that are designed to only let oil pass in one direction if you accidentally fit one of those with the housing piped up wrong oil wont be allowed passed the non return valve. Even if you make sure to only use open filters they often also have a fail safe bypass valve in case the filter clogs which bypasses the filter internally, piping it backwardss would likely open that bypass valve permanently making the filter ineffective.

Hi; I have one base here that seems made by a machinist I really do not know which way to connect the hoses. I mean; you say "in" and "out"...I only knows tat one hose to the junction block return and the other to the tank and rockers but do not know which or what is out or in. Seems "OUT" would be the filtered oil?

@@bodganeering Yes; but I do not know if this machined base for the filter is that way. I am deducting the 3 holes that have and the spigots 2 in the top and one on the side. Also was fitted on the feed side and the timing cover was modified so 2 hoses fitted there; then there was a oil cooler and a device to fit the oil gauge line and the oil switch. Hence I was confused. So always the filtered oil should be out from the middle hole with this type of filters? You know in other T140 I have the MAP filter and the filtered oil is OUT FROM THE SIDE... Thanks

@TheReverb1 as far as I know all screw on filters like this have filtered oil coming from the centre bore of the canister.

could do with stronger tabs i reckon, those will probably break with vibration

That one I got from eBay purely due to cost. Same item is available from several retailers on the net.

Very nice. Just bought a 79 T140. It will take a year to do some upgrades and other things needed. This is now on my list of upgrades I'd like done. I would like to add a small oil pressure gauge inline. I would have to look into it's restricting the flow to much. Any thoughts?.

You can get kits that take the oil pressure feed from the oil pressure switch fixing on the bottom right of the engine, this would give you a better picture of the pressure within your engine rather than the return to the tank. Your crank bearings are the main ones to keep and eye on. A lot of people tend to stay away from pressure gauges now as a fix gauge as you'll spend more time looking at it and getting paranoid when sat at the lights on a hot day and the pressure falls through the floor. A test gauge fitted temporarily for checking your pressures from cold should be enough for piece of mind.

@@bodganeering OK wow. I am learning something new every day about this bike. I've seen others post videos showing different modifications. One such video shows a gauge cluster with a high beam, a neutral beam, and an oil pressure light. I wondered about the source of the oil pressure light. I've only had the bike for one week now. Cleaning up the wiring will be one of my first jobs. She came to me with only a speedometer, no turn signals, just a horn button, and what I think is a high beam switch. I'll be looking to get a battery in the next couple of days to see what I do have and what works. Mostly I'm trying to learn all I can and avoid throwing money away on spare parts. Thank you

@briangibbs518 sounds like fun. These bikes are a love hate relationship, also a massive money pit. But as soon as you crack that throttle open, then you know… Advice is always free mate, enjoy the journey.

@@bodganeering Thanks it is a labour of love. Had Yamaha's and Harleys But always wanted a Triumph. This came up at an ok price and had to have it. Young man started a Cafe project but with a young wife and kids on the way. Well, we all know the rest of the story. He did do some good work. Took it to the right shops to get work done. So ya she lives to drain another bank account. Thanks again. Ride safe.
