Fascinating. The "French Connection" is clear, traceable back to Debussy. This is music of "indirection" of "evocation". It does not "make statements"; rather it "suggests". It is the opposite---indeed, an inversion---- of the German tradition. Instead of themes, motives. dynamic development, tension and release, this is music of colors, of subtly shifting stasis. Occasionally there are sudden changes of dynamics, but the music is not meant to "go" anywhere. Rather, it "floats". It is an "atmosphere" without a "goal". The deep bass blasts near the end suggest the possibility of dynamism, but the music never "develops". The piece is an object of contemplation, not the "journey" expected in previous centuries.

Beautiful! Imo, Murail is one of the greatest living composers and one of the last "giants" of the contemporary music.

Until I saw a video of the piece, I thought this was just a noisy recording...very strange decision by Murail to cover up the whole piece with white noise by the percussionist...

+maqamat07 interesting observation. I think it was a very nice way to add suspense although it could have perhaps been executed more subtly

A 7'30" me suis dit "allez, j'arrête d'écouter ça" et puis je me retrouve comme un idiot à penser que si je n'écoute pas ça jusqu'au bout, on va me taxer de personnage sectaire , mais quand j'aurais fini d'écrire, j'arrêterai quand même ce vide intersidéral car j'ai bien peur d'y perdre le peu de neurones qui me restent !!
