Tristan & Isolde | A Forbidden Romance

Forbidden love and tragic romances are commonplace in mythology and medieval folklore, and few stories were ever as romantic yet tragic as the love of Sir Tristan and Isolde the Fair. After unintentionally ingesting a powerful love potion, Tristan and Isolde fell madly in love with one another, despite Isolde's betrothal to Tristan's uncle, King Mark of Cornwall. A dangerous love triangle begins, one that threatens Mark and Isolde's marriage, the integrity of a kingdom, immense heartbreak, and even death.

When I think of "Forbidden Romances", I think of Romeo & Juliet; I think neither of these stories ended well...

Really? Do tell. This is such a great story & it's been a very long time since I've seen a decent rendition of tales like this. Where can I find this film?

Such a brilliantly gorgeous story. It's quite Arthurian in it's basic design, theme, & recurring motifs. The tale of Tristan & Isolde is uniquely romantic, & quite stunning in its own right. Thanks for covering this excellent story & so beautifully as well. Reninds me of college when I first read this masterpiece. Have a great evening everyone, cheers .🌹💜🥂🌍🌌

I started to watch and then paused for a day or two. I wasn't quite in the right mood for this one as it came out. I have known the story and some of the variations of it since I was a child, eagerly reading her first book on Celtic Mythology. It's beautiful despite being tragic.

Huh, interesting. I think it was the movie Excalibur, the scene with the lovers and the sword was recreated in that movie, only in that case it was Lancelot, Guinevere, and Arthur in the scene.

I've always preferred the story of Tristan and Isolde to Romeo and Juliet, partly because it developed over time, and took place long before the latter. Tristan and Isolde's story had a lot of twists and turns, a long journey; Romeo and Juliet felt pretty rushed.
