It has nothing to do with African people as they are not in a position to do much since this was established. What you said is correct. The Ethiopians were the first nation to protect and welcome Muslim people. Harrar had been taken over by Islamic leaders much later on in an attempt to corner the trade market in that part of Ethiopia. Haile Selassie didn't own slaves. That's absolute nonsense. Menelik did own slaves. Haile Selassie (unlike Menelik who had passed a very token decree of abolition of slavery) actually did something to eradicate slavery. Haile Selassie actually outlawed slavery and the slaves that were freed were taken care of. They were entered into schools (among other institutions) where the main focus was on music and the arts. Haile Selassie wasn't able to eradicate slavery throughout all of Ethiopia, nor was he able to get clean water to some villages because neighbouring villages who had rivalry with some villages wouldn't let pipes be dug under their village to reach their neighbours. There is so much to be said. Haile Selassie wanted to enter the League of Nations at that time (the UN didn't exist in that time). He was told that if he wanted to join the League he would have to demonstrate a real attempt at eradicating slavery. It had nothing to do with sucking up to Europeans. Again, so much can be said but Tristan thinks he's educated because he read a book.

As panafrican people we want a United African front from African people of all backgrounds , spiritual believes and religions. And this statement with the obsession of royalty ? I mean that is a rebellious move an in a world where everyone told Africans that we were just about savages. And that is something not to be found only in the Rastafari movement. I was Rastafari for many years, and still wear my locs. That said, Rastafari is a conflation of several spiritual practices including Judeo-Christianity, Orthodox Christianity, Hinduism and Jainism. Rastafari emerged at a time when Black people in the West Indies (beginning with Jamaica) were seeking knowledge of self and in Rastafari, they found an alternative to the oppressive Eurocentric Christianity that was oppressing black people. The reality is that our spirituality predates all other forms and true knowledge of self requires seeking out that knowledge. I have received in-person accounts from Ethiopians who vehemently oppose the notion that HIM is a Messiah and to the contrary, many of His own people see him as a dictator.

The Oromo people were sworn enemies of the Emperor, so I wouldn't take there word as the gospel truth! The serfdom carried out in Ethiopia was done so by the church whom His Majesty had to go up against in his bid to abolish any form of servitude in Ethiopia. We know that as a member of the league of nations he would have sought help from those other member countries! His Majesty is actually well Loved in Ethiopia! I coud write a whole book here on the life and times of His Majesty and debunk most of what he said! This yute needs to go back to doing some intense research on His Majesty! There is a film called 'Man Of The Millenium' which was done about 14 years ago by a young Ethiopian brother. I cannot recall his name as I am typing, but I would suggest that this yute watch that film! I was at the premier in NYC. I personally met the director. Wonderful young man! We received valuable first hand knowledge of His Majesty from the extensive research the brother had done in Ethiopia has he prepared to make the film! Years ago in NYC at a meeting of the UNIA, which I was a then member this very idea of comparing Marcus Garvey to His Majesty came up. It was brought forward in the meeting by an Afrikan American brother. I responded to him and the entire meeting. This propaganda started by the western media from the time of Italy's invasion of Ethiopia, is precisely what informed Garvey of what was taking place in Ethiopia and without verfying any of the information provided by the European colonizer, Garvey made several schathing remarks about the Emperor which was far from the truth! It is to be known that after Garvey said those words he would still open his conferences with the singing of the Ethiopian Anthem and pay respect to The Emperor! Likkle yute everything you hear about Kagame is provided to you by the western media! If Kagame is in cohorts with neo-colonizers then so are most leaders in Afrika from Cape to Cairo! So don't just single out Kagame as if he is the devil incarnate! As His Majesty once said youths are uncouth! They don't take time to fully understand or to evaluate certain political, social and economic strategies used and decisions made in the running of a country! His Majesty had been in training to lead since he was a child! He became the Grandfather of Pan Afrikanism and Garvey I would say became the Father of Pan Afrikanism! This yute is either being disingenuous or he simply needs do more research, but for him to fail to mention the invasion of Italy in '36 and the subsequent occupation until '41 is to have this one story syndrome! Ethiopia had never been colonized by a European power! But an occupation by Italy would last for five years in which four million Ethiopians died at the hands of the invaders. It would have behooved him to talk about that! Being an Afro Jamaican it's a shame that he would think what he presented here today has a 100% validity. This has to be narrated with much more facts and actuality! The regurgitation of the colonizers account is rife in his presentation! As a people we need to know our story better than the hunters!

I really don't understand the aim of all this by young Graham. One of the greatest achievements of Haile Selassie was spearheading the formation of the Organization of African Unity. Throughout history, errors have been made and will continue to be made by various leaders whether Asian, European, Afrikan, Middle Eastern, etc. Haile Selassie, himself, made a number of errors, some of which are mentioned but there are also some perceived errors that are misconstrued, overemphasized and misrepresented. As Afrikans/Pan-Afrikans, we need to careful of the sources of our research and the context in which it is presented. Rastafari was NEVER meant to be a religion......Rastafari was developed as a liberation movement, focusing on the liberation of mother Africa from ALL external forces and reinforcing the mantra 'AFRIKA FOR AFRIKANS, THOSE AT HOME AND THOSE ABROAD (DIASPORA)'. Hence, it is erroneous to be comparing Rastafari with Christianity, Hinduism, Muslim among others......Rastafari's focus is liberation, while the focus of ALL religions is mysticism and the misleading of the people.

Dear Tristan , even tho people should always do their own research, it's seems to me that u should keep on with your own as well. The things that leaders did or say in the 1930's or 1960's must be looked with the context of this era for a clearer overstanding. Separating Garvey (Cabral , etc) pan african views and works with the ones of Haile Selassie The First will always happen when one overlooked or disregard the Mighty achievement of 58 years of rules by the High Majesty. Why not give light to the PAN AFRICAN CONTRIBUTION of Haile Selassie The First ? That is why I say do your own research more deeper. If u want to learn. Dear Brother Tristan, even tho slavery was a part of the culture and still is in some places in Africa, i would have loved you to distinguish the form of slavery in practice in Africa with the one apply on our brothers and sisters, our families enslaved in the Americas. In your research, you will discover that one of the first act as a ruler in the part of Haile Selassie The First was to abolish the form of slavery still existing in Ethiopia/Abyssinia. Again, Rastafari people know how Marcus Garvey disrespect Haile Selassie I at some point in history but still the Rastafari brothers and sisters are probably some of the few on earth who never give up on his teachings and legacies and kept his memoir very high and active from those days until today . In the video, you mention that erythrean and somalis have bad memories about Haile Selassie I, on that i will say probably true but it is also true that you will find some who have GOOD memories about his time as a ruler over Ehiopia/Abyssinia and the relation with neighbouring countries. It is seems like, even tho you have some truth here and there, your intervention in this video is very biased. CONCERNING PAUL KAGAME of RWANDA Do you know what happen to president Magufuli of Tanzania ? Do you know what happen to president Nkurunziza of Burundi ? Died from Covid ? Are u sure those that you say where in jail , was because president Kagame didn't like them ? I wish things will be more easy to understand and the pan african vision more clearer to perceive in the action of the african leaders of today. You have to play by the rules Tristan Graham or you get out, often brutally. The only solution is a United States of Africa with african paradigms. Unitil that day you got to play the games with those that litterally rules the world. I wish you well with your poitical science studies, Tristan, and i am inviting you in Africa East West North and South. LOVE ,

I appreciate the research & honesty of the brother, but I have a few objections.. Wasn't Ethiopia the 1st country to abolish slavery under the leadership of Haile Selassie? U cant compare the brutality & savagery of european/american chattel slavery to slavery practiced in Africa; Africans did not dehumanize slaves or take away their basic human rights, also they usually remained slaves for a specific period of time or until a debt was paid, not for their entire lives & the entire lives of their children's children. Likewise, u cant compare european imperialism to African imperialism because u can still find many ethnic groups within Ethiopia who speak their original language & practice their original customs. European empires force everyone to speak their language, worship their God & imitate them on every level; Ethiopia may have conquered many different tribes, but they also allowed them to maintain their cultures to this day. There are similarities, but there is no comparison

Respectfully, I have listened up to 9 mins and have already identified erroneous perceptions. First, you approach this subject to discredit the emperor based upon what Marcus Garvey cited. Is he devine?...what qualifies him from being more adept than those who recognized the palpable virtues of the man in question. It was a disenfranchised people from Jamaica who made the evaluation based upon the merits which were presented. Attempts to disqualify the faith, veracity and accuracy of those who espouse the belief that He is God will have a difficult time to discount such a vindication. During His Majesty's tenure, the church believed that He was going to "contaminate" the people with western education (which incidentally is key for human progress, rather than ignorance and superstitious Babylonian beliefs). The notion and mystery of the God phenomenon has been a been with us for centuries (references: The Holy Bible, the Bhagavgita and the Quaran to name but a few. The each reveal through their writings that in the fullness of time God will be revealed as "an all wise God", who sits upon a throne. Many Hindu priests / followers have unequivocally expressed that this little diminutive man (5ft 4 inches) is the manifestation of the God Shiva Himself. Most of us (normal people) say that we are fair, unprejudiced, equitable and the like - but are we really??....Qedamawi Haile Selassie I (translates to The Mighty God). In the end, the church had to go by their "conscience", thus pronouncing upon Him His baptismal name, The Mighty God. If any person can find for me a greater vindication than this, please let me who else might deliver us?(P.S. please use science as your basis and not poco, wizardry, witchcraft or Babylonianism). Every ready of this will be mystically blesse. Why should He have to tell the world that He alone is God?...didn't He prove it to all of us? Finally, who else could be the world's most decorated statesman in human history but God Himself? (Ref: 'Ethiopia Shall Stretch Forth Her Hands Unto God' - Gregory Copley).

Hello, offended?...not at all. The Almighty Creator has given mankind the freedom to choose whatever religion we want. Whether it be bunny rabbits 🐇 or some esoteric deity. Only He can weigh it in His balance scales. For those who choose to align with the teachings of Qedamawi Haile Selassie 1, any "reasonable" and "spiritual" person would automatically subscribe to His Words and approach to the rivalry that exists in religions. He says 'No one should question the faith of others for no one knows the ways of God'. He cannot tell us that He is The Almighty Creator - He would take much pleasure if we are able to recognize Him. For those who believe that His legacy and supreme crowning before 72 nation's (whereupon they tacitly agreed that He is 'The Mighty God'), serves as no purpose or relevance will have to live with such a decision. I know of no other that mankind can trust. As a Christian, I am called to judge (or evaluate) everything in righteousness. Ref (Bible) 'Test the spirits and see if they can stand up to what they say. In His case we have His "WORDS", "ACTIONS" and palpable results. The one who has revealed Him is His only begotten son Yeshua (Jesus). I am confident that you will one day receive a devine revelation that He is indeed (as crowned) the only 'King of Kings and Lord of Lords'. Questions are always welcomed! Peace

There a big misconception about Rastafari in its true essence. Ultimately it is the betterment of African people..it is I repeat not a religion. Right now there is a shift for Rasta to be rooted in African culture. Rastafari in South Africa 🇿🇦 is something to behold. Respect for this as a broader view of Haile Selassie is needed and should be questioned. Haile Selassie is not here to guide etc so again who will offer this guidance?, it is Africans themselves. It’s also interesting what he said about the leader of Rwanda…which I believe to be true. Interesting how he is prepared to side with the U.K. regarding the vetting of immigrants. Why would an African allow this?. Unless they haven’t been paid off.

Here is what Emperor Haile Selassie's "friend", according to Tristan, reported about what the Emperor was doing. "“In the course of his visit to Moscow, the Emperor of Ethiopia has signed an agreement for a loan of 100 million rubles. The loan was of the usual kind; that is, on a barter basis with low interest rates. It is also said that the Czechs are extending a line of credit to Haile Selassie of twenty million dollars. To these agreements there are rumors of secret protocols of whose content we know nothing. These moves may, however, be the first major attempt of the Communist Bloc to penetrate into the deeper parts of Africa. This could be extremely significant. It was also possible that the Ethiopian Emperor is, in a quiet way, attempting to blackmail the U.S. Some opposition to his agreements has already made itself apparent in Addis Ababa but the opposition groups, who have approached us with the idea of putting the Crown Prince on the throne, have very little popular backing. Mr. Dulles warned that this was a situation which must be followed very carefully by the U.S. because of its obvious implications for Africa as a whole. One unconfirmed report has it that Haile Selassie has ordered the abrogation of the agreement which established the U.S. Base at Asmara. This, if true, could be extremely serious." [Page 186] (From history.state.gov/historicaldocuments/frus1958-60v14/d46). It does not seem like the King was a very good client state operator for the U.S. He was playing both sides against each other. The King was doing whatever he felt was best for Ethiopia not necessarily what the West wanted.

My views as an American born black man who deems himself a Rasta, my interpretion of what rastafari represents and what we as rastas should aspire for, would be quite contradictory for most. For one, I do not worship or see HIM as a God or a returned messiah. I feel the coronation of HIM was to be symbolic to all afrikans around the world at that time, rather then a literal means to worshipping a man. What I mean by that is when you see the Bible as a book based on astrology, numerology, consciousness evolution, and esoteric sciences, and NOT literal, you will come to see why the coronation of HIM was in fact a means of the KRST energy manifesting at a much needed time to awaken the consciousness of afrikan people to who they truly are and should aspire to be. The Bible did in fact prophesize Selassie, but not as a man, but the energy (i.e. krst energy) which was to be symbolic of afrikans waking up and reclaiming their identity. When you confuse this symbology with the image and worship of a physical flesh and blood man, there will always be contradictions in how you view not only the indivudal, but the movement in its entirety. Can we find instances of HIM acting against other afrikans? Instances of his people suffering while he held luxurious parties and courted Europeans? Yes! This is why we shouldn't worship man because man is set to fail based on his futile desires and pursuits. Thus using the name rasta should not be to mimic HIM, but to commemorate the period in which the Krst energy returned to redeem us all. That energy though is not central to a specific time and location thoughout history though! It comes at varying times to assist man in his evolution as spiritual beings. These returns of this energy is littered throughout different ages in the Bible, but as I stated it's not a literal man or human, but has to manifest within man to take a foothold on the physical plane. You see it in those deeming themselves Garveites, Buddhist, and the likes! All of these movements are just commemorating a time when the krst energy descended upon man.

@@rastafari4932 As I stated, I'm not denying HIM, just saying that the personage the krst energy came through to awaken the black man and woman's conscious at that time should not be interpreted as being to "solely" worship a man of physical flesh and blood. Man faults and deceives himself based on physical senses and tends to less likely overstand the symbolic and/or esoteric meaning of that which he pursues and studies. The krst energy can arise out of anyone, but it was more visible in the coronation of HIM being this physical plane is that which is heavily reliant on visualization. If man can't see, hear, taste, or touch it, he is not likely to follow or take heed. HIM coronation came at a time when many were told to bow and revere the queen of England and to worship a blonde hair, blue eyed Jesus. And that white rule was status quo. This event awakened the "conscious" of thousands being they reclaimed their afrikan identity and saw the divinity within themselves, or at least this is what was supposed to happen. To deny the atrocities that occurred under HIM rule would be ridiculous and we can't just ignore the obvious. As a matter of fact, the coronation of HIM could've been the main purpose of his entire life and was to extend no further then that. The entire biblical text many associated with HIM ascension to the throne is highly esoteric and refers to spirit and consciousness. Not flesh and blood. It's alluding to one's divine self (krst) claiming the throne (crown chakra) to overthrow the ego and spirit of ignorance. To bear the name of rastafari is to indicate that I resonate with the awakening of consciousness having occurred during that time period when the krst energy returned to us.

Haile Selassie is no different from like Tsar Nicholas of the Russian Empire while Garvey was nothing more than a black nationalist & petty bourgeois elite. some rastas tend to be idealistic to think of haile selassie as a manifestation of the TRINITY whereas haile selassie never thought of herself as jesus, on the other hand, rastas often associate marcus garvey like mosiah worthy of worship. Garvey was a reactionary. He used fierce words but he was opposed to the labor movement and counseled subservience to bosses. One reason for his success was that his movement was strictly a class movement. He appealed to the black Negroes against the Mulattoes. Thus at one strike he excluded the Negro middle class which is very largely of mixed blood. He deliberately aimed at the poorest, most down-trodden and humiliated Negroes. The millions who followed him, the devotion and the money they contributed, show where we can find the deepest strength of the working class movement, the coiled springs of power which lie there waiting for the party which can unloose them. Garvey, however, was a race fanatic. His appeal was to black against white. He wanted purity of race. A great part of his propaganda was based on the past achievements of blacks, their present misery, their future greatness. With that disregard of facts which characterize the born demagogue, he proclaimed there were 400 million Negroes in the world, when there are certainly not half as many. Who does all this remind us of? Who but Adolph Hitler? The similarity between the two movements does not end there. The Negroes were too few in America for Garvey to give them excitement by means of baiting whites as Hitler baited the Jews. But his program had a nebulousness similar to the the Nazi program. Was this the reason that long before Hitler, he anticipated the Nazi leader in his emphasis on uniforms, parades, military guards, in short, the dramatic and the spectacular? Stupid people saw in all this merely the antics of backward Negroes. Recent events should give them an opportunity to revise their judgements. Everything that Hitler was to do afterwards in the way of psychological appeal, Garvey was doing in 1921 His array of baronets, etc., with himself as Emperor of Africa was a hangover from his early life in the West Indies. In one important respect, the Garvey movement was the most remarkable political mass movement that America has ever seen. Note that Garvey promised the Negroes nothing and at the same time everything. His organization was not a trade union which offered higher wages, nor was it a political party which could offer prospects of realizing a program. All he did was to speak of Africa, and near the end of his career he bought one or two leaky ships which made one or two streaky voyages. Yet so deep was the sense of wrong and humiliation among the Negroes and so high did he lift them up that they gave him all that they did, year after year, expecting Garvey to perform some miracle. No revolution is ever made except when the masses have reached this pitch of exaltation, when they see a vision of a new society. That is what Garvey gave them. Personally, Garvey was one of the great orators of his time. Ill-educated, but with the rhythms of Shakespeare and the Bible in his head, he was a master of rhetoric and invective, capable of great emotional appeals and dramatic intensity. In his late years he could hold English crowds spellbound in Hyde Park while he told them that God would save black Ethiopia because Simon the Cyrenian, a black man, helped Jesus on the way to Calvary. As the great poet says, it ain’t what you say, it’s the way that you say it. Yet this remarkable movement and the remarkable figure who led it remain unstudied by American leftist/Marxist/Socialist. all of that can be explained if understanding their social position with class analysis methodology.

Not because your topics are of concern, just that it attracts all the vermin out of the woodworks and not in a good light. You are a well studied, educated and thoughtful young man. Do not be disheartened by the haters. This topic is the very thread that will unravel their system, so beware and do not take unnecessary risks to discuss openly and publicly. Without knowing it, perhaps, you are shinning light on the very operations of the the "ruling class" and they will not take kindly to it. Haile Selassie I is the reincarnation of the one formerly known as Yeshua. You are absolutely correct in that he is just a man and not God Almighty or even the Father for that matter. This is crucial to understand and it neither takes away any of the good works he did in his time on earth. Know this too that he was put in a very difficult position with many wolves in sheep's clothing embedded in his nation who undermined his efforts at every turn; ie: abolishment of slavery, etc. They were very open to letting HIM's public appearance be perceive in any number of ways that were less than flattering. This is why many Ethiopians have a large range of opinions, feelings and emotions on the subject. The Muslims/Arabs and Europeans worked together to take the continent formerly known as Aethiopia. By renaming a small section of land as Ethiopia, they were attempting to brainwash many and alter history enough, since mostly it was orally passed on and words can be confused rather easily. Even Congo was a much larger nation within Aethiopia long ago and has been reduced and altered in similar fashion. They removed those they did not care for in the land, murdered those who they felt would be too difficult to control as an example and to reinforce their methods and then installed selected persons in each nation to control the actual inhabitants. They allow them to be the face of the nation while pulling strings in the background. Then they came at an altogether angle with Islam, which appears harmless at first, until you recognize it is a method to make the people to submit. Why else do they insist you must bow to the earth 5 times a day to "pray", when God is just a conversation away at all times and never required any to bow, only obedience? They always come in fair and comely appearance so as not to raise any alarms or draw suspicion, then operate from the shadows by using all kinds of puppets who they hold leverage over by any means necessary. I only write this to warn you, that you may make your own decisions being informed. You are a young man and still have much life ahead of you. Obedience to God is better than sacrifice. Sacrifice arose from the spilling of blood and there is nothing "holy" about it. God Bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you!

Who is u to bless anyone & tell anyone who or what god is? That's the question! Not how you want somone to see any other human being no matter what posisition he or she may hold on this earth. You both lack the roots to make the claim That these things represented by the youth are "The Half". You both are half knowing. Haile Selassie said himself! that he wasn't god. These are false claims as if to blaspheme. & you of all people letting someone you hope god blesses him. Lol 😆 yall half knowing. Pick youself up,dust youself off and Keep learning.

The cognitive dissonance that is under this video is to be expected. The youth is bringing textual evidence! Although the submissions of scholars will always be under scrutiny, by the imploring of critical thinking, culture and historical truths one will come to the truth, as long as their thinking be unbiased and their intention be on the decolonization of the mind. In the community and the many factions and sociopolitical elements involved in rastafari are deceivers who believe the myth and pantheon of classical romantic scholars and it would be ignorant to believe that there are now unbridled truths that they haven’t been hiding. Keep up the good work my youth!

The dude not against Selassie to me he just cant innerstand why his fellow bro & sis think themselves royal or supreme . as he mentioned Mansa Musa as well. His beef is with the clss factor. Sayin that to say this all the negatives highlighted cant stop the conscious minded who look beyond man or image for direction going forward .Rastafari pay homage to H.I.M for his contributions doh be so quick to condemn brother for no man is perfect .

Only a traitor can feel comfortable in the land of the enemy. Nkosi Cetshwayo wasn’t comfortable when he went to Victoria to regain is kingdom, after giving the British their worst defeat on African soil
