2021 model also has an up and down quickshifter from the factory. The '24 model just gets the next gen software so it works off throttle up and on throttle down.

Seems a fantastically well-rounded bike, now! In the competitive company, it's now kind of no-brainer. Yamaha's reliability can't be matched by any of the European brands. I'd MUCH rather spend time riding than socializing with my dealer/mechanic/or by myself in the garage all damn night! That's real-world ownership-experience value.

Nearly got an mt09 in 2013 - early pre ABS - and the only thing that stopped me was the poor p/e the dealer offered. I brooded and got something bigger and faster instead,; nice, but maybe the mt09 would've been ridden more. This new mt09 is probably all the bike I need. An sp would be wasted. Mmmm.

I rode a 2023 recently. It was more to do a friend a favor (he wanted to hear something like "hey what a gem of a bike") , I did not expect too much. But even the "old" modell is so much fun. I knew the gen 1 one and the chassis was not exactly brlliant, to be graciouse But the new 890 cc engine is brilliant. And you can ride it far more hard than the privious modells . I guess i will sell my Street Triple RS for it, cause i'm not a track rider, and at the end of the day it's a cheap ,reliable, fun to ride Package.

Nonetheless, the fundamental parts and tools required to service the MT-09 haven’t changed since launch, so this maintenance schedule is for the FZ-09 and MT-09 from 2015-2020. In 2021, a new MT-09 and MT-09 SP were released with an updated 890cc CP3 engine.

I was all set on a new Street Triple 765 RS next year - an upgrade and treat to myself after what will be six years and probably 65,000 km on my KTM Duke 390 - but the 2024 MT-09, specifically the SP, has grabbed my attention. I would love to see a group test with those two bikes despite the capacity difference - pricing is very similar in Canada after add-ons - to help with the decision. Also, great video and breakdown of the new MT-09. Thank you for the detailed overview and introduction to what will obviously be a smash hit for Yamaha.

IF the KTM Super Duke 1390 had a baby it would be the KTM 990... The 990 is a work of art and has all the same features as the 1390 except the motor ofcourse...990 is an awesome streetable bike where the 1390 can get you hurt quickly if you don't have the skills to ride it. If i had the kind of money needed to buy the 990, It would absolutely be my next bike. I already own two other naked bikes the 2017 Yamaha FZ-09 and a 2005 Kawasaki ZRX1200R. Both were bought new from the dealerships...The Aprilia Tuono 1000cc naked I would also buy in a heartbeat...It's another awesome flagship naked bike...

Yamaha MT-09 and MT-09SP (890cc, 2021+) Maintenance Schedule and Service Intervals dana maintenance schedules profile image By Dana Hooshmand January 19, 2023 Updated on April 8, 2023 This is the maintenance schedule and associated service intervals for the 2022+ Yamaha MT-09 and MT-09 SP with the upgraded 890cc engine, released and made available in 2021. The 2021/2022 model’s 890cc inline triple is an upgrade over the 847cc triple in the original Yamaha MT-09 (which was originally released as an FZ-09, but which has always been the same bike) and XSR900, which shares the same base platform in a more “modern classic” design aesthetic. The new 2021/2022 MT-09 and MT-09 SP have a host of improvements over the outgoing models with the 847cc CP3 engine. But the star of the show is the engine, an 890cc liquid-cooled 12-valve inline triple that makes a claimed 87.5 kW (117.4 hp) at 10,000 rpm, with a generally fatter torque curve.

Love the bike but Yamaha needs to move away from that wheel color already.

2 generations later and the 2017-2020 is still the best looking 09

With every new version of the MT09, Yamaha manages to successfully make it uglier. The headlight on this is horrendous. The best thing is the engine, I'd much prefer an xsr with a modified rear end and seat cowl.

The Mt09 seems a small bike, I wish it was a bit bigger.

@@davmanlop333 Same Motor they just changed the stroke and the Pistons.. So if I took my 427 Chevy Big Block Trucking engine and I replaced the stoke 3.75" Stroke Crank with a 4.25" Stroke crank and longer Crower I Rods I can say I have a completely new Engine.. now it's 488 Cubic Inches with a 0.030 over bore .

The 2021/23 looks different, hooligan decepticon. The 2024 looks more tryng to be cute and a super hero ( iron man). We do not want to be cute and softy, we like to ride as it is. Hooligan.

I have an sv650 that I use daily for my commute. I have a 47km twisty commute with no traffic whatsoever (I can take the highway which is much faster but so damn boring) . I love the SV, but I've been thinking of stepping up to a more fun ride. I might just consider this. I've been looking at the Z900 but I've never test ridden one and I don't know anyone who has a Z900 that I can ask. I tried considering the GSXS-1000 cuz it's pretty good for the price. I have an affinity to Japanese bikes, which is why I haven't considered European manufacturers, although an MV Agusta Rush wouldn't be too bad, just can't afford it.
