Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. ... The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area. Craig then proceeded to swipe his left hand under the stall divider several times, with the palm of his hand facing upward." That's from the real life incident.

That’s exactly what Senator Larry Craig did, this episode is based on him but they added the part about murder. He was arrested in a sting to catch men hooking up in public restrooms and he thought that if he cooperated with the police and didn’t involve lawyers that it would all be buried, but ofc he was wrong and it became a massive scandal

So the politician in this episode was also the police captain in The Wire. There was one Wire episode at the end where his character was seen at a gay bar implying he was closted. Strangely, the show never elaborated on that angle.
