Missing a crucial piece of evidence, the detectives decide to retrace the steps of the victim to hone in on the challenging investigation. I like how the writers slip in bits of dialogue that show us how experienced and well-established of a cop Van Buren really is. She made that connection to the paint factory almost immediately and she was right, that's where the murder took place. She really knows the ins and outs of that city like the back of her hand, I wish they had more dialogue showing how good of a Lieutenant she really is.

Actually it's a pretty easy equation to determine the time of death. Humans will on average be around a specific heat and will lose heat at a very specific rate. It's one of those equations using math that you never thought would be useful. By taking into account the temperature of the body and the area you can reliably determine time to within a few hours. The hard part is determining what exactly caused the death as it might not always be the most obvious of injuries.

Gotta love New York. There’s a dead body on top of a car covered in blood with letters painted on his chest and nobody walking by gives even a look. I know this is a show, but it’s kind of an accurate depiction of how used to everything New Yorkers are. 😂
@kentvesser9484

Part of that might be because there is so much TV and movie work done in New York that when folks might see something odd like that, they just assume it is part of some production. Depending on what and how something is being filmed, cameras and crew might not be visible right away as a less expensive production maybe wants the street scene to look "natural"
